This may have been covered elsewhere in the comments, but an interesting thing about Galloway is that he was "discovered" on DeviantArt back in the day. One of the creators of the Hellboy animated films spotted his work and brought him on to do design work for the project and that got his foot in the door.
"So how much money will you make as an illustrator or animator?" "You will be paid nothing, or potatoes." I have enough friends who majored in CommD to know that this is 100% truth.

Well done! This episode really connected me to your personal concepts of design, skills, and growth vs a collective concept. Power points of focus and simplicity. I am no artist yet I learned much. Entertaining and informative! I love it!
Loish was the first artist that REALLY stood out to me, I can ALWAYS recognize her work. When I started drawing she was one of my insperations, mainly because I love the way she does noses. Weird reason, but that is a tough thing to do right. Her balance if western animation style and realism is so cool, and her colors are awesome. Another one of my favorites is Serafleur.
Noses aren't so hard if you AVOID the "dead-head-on" angle with them pointed straight at you... In those cases (when you're ready) just remember "less is always more" as far as the nose goes. It loses character "straight on"... Study a single nose at a time, as close as you can at first... It's important enough to the face it's hung on, to be worth doing well whenever you can... In most common pictures, there's only so much room for details... BUT to lose some of its character in the "head-on" or "full frontal angle" is normal... Part of that is tuning your own eyes as an artist to get used to not pegging it as a "mistake" by rote. Until you get more used to that, just putting a slight angle to the face in the "Product" art you wish to sell or "put out there" can avoid embarrassment, BUT do be aware that it's a crutch. BE aware this is a tactic to avoid "showing off mistakes" rather than actually improving on them... As you advance, you'll have to get better with shading. Learning to "draw with shade" and "insinuate linework" is going to really open the "field of play" for you. In fact, study Loish's noses, one at a time, while you work on it. I noticed she does quite a bit of "insinuating lines with shadow" work, too. Finally, cut yourself some slack, too. It takes a LOT of work to get to "Pro' Level" and it's perfectly fine that you struggle now. You CAN get there from here. I believe in you. ;o)
I know that this was a while ago and your videos are more demonstrative breakdowns of fundamental concepts of good design but I VERY much liked seeing the thought process, acting and exaggeration to understand the kind of pose you were going for, and how you utilized those references to make a completed work. Was fun to see and came out super well!!
Generally, all classical 2D animators know how to illustrate, but very few illustrators know how to animate. They should also do an animation challenge...
Even when you've developed your own style, it's ok for your influences to shine through. Sean Galloway, for example, was clearly influenced by John K. Like Picasso said, "Good artists borrow. Great artists steal."
So in another video he talks about character placement in fight scenes. When one character defeats the other, it passes through from one side of the screen to the other. I love that the Chair in this video starts out on the /RIGHT/ side, then after Ethan's numerous BLINDING fast strikes, the chair makes it's move and strikes hard and swift, dealing a fatal blow. Thus leaving Ethan defeated on the /RIGHT/ side and the chair sitting victoriously on the \LEFT\ side. notice chairsenpai at 8:24
lois is also some one with slight illustration background, so it doeessssss kind of be like comparing oranges to smaller oranges in this video. of course sean galloway is way ahead of lois in animation, and lois only has one animation short i believe. just wanted to say this crap, cuz people wonder how she always has flowy looking art, and thats helped by her doing stuff in animation before. but yeah they're both good though. liked this video!

Just out of curiosity do the visual development time ever have to learn coding and script? I don’t know if Ethan worked with 3D animation teams. I hear in the game design industry they want artists to do a variety of tasks just to get work done.
For small companies one artist may have more than one job for budget reasons. In big companies usually each artist just does what his job title says since it's more efficient
I am making movies with illustrations. It helps more if animation cannot be used well unless wisely for small amounts and for better purposes. Better off using my illustrations to help out. I like both though. :)
