Excellent series, Andrew! On the synthesis model used by the DX7, I think this is mis-named and is actually Phase-Modulation synthesis. Your episodes on Wave-shaping&folding have inspired my first project - a non-sine PM synth. Exciting!

A note for future PD enthousiasts: the modulator volume should be able to go way above 1 but the carrier volume should have max 1 volume.
