Joburg,in fact South Africa as a whole is not that dangerous, those people you were with were exaggerating it,you're not gonna get robbed the moment you walk outside,it takes very rare unfortunate circumstances for something like that to happen to you,the same common sense you use to stay safe in Nairobi is the same common sense you'll have to use in Joburg,or anywhere you go for that matter, things like avoiding poor shady areas, not showing off your wealth around disadvantaged people(like the homeless),not walking alone in a dark empty street in the middle of the night, stuff like that,if you apply this basic stuff you should be fine and be able to walk most places, especially the wealthier parts of the city, which tend to be the safest.

But my sister, over 100 gun shots per month and you believed that? There are people walking around in Johannesburg every day without any problems. There are visible Metropolitan police and under cover cops in Joburg. There are universities with students roaming around. Unless one goes to the shady delapitated old buildings where drugs and alcohol abuse is high. Another thing, Johannesburg is huge, with several cities like Fourways, Rundbug, Sandton, Rosebank Roodepoort, Melrose, Midrand, Bramfontein, Hillbrow and others.

We have 11 official spoken languages... the rest are not official. It's not true we understand each other, it depends where the person comes from and also how quick they're in learning languages. Mostly people form Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo will understand most languages as those provinces are 'multi-lingual'.

You have given a fair account of my country, madam, and I'm sure a vast majority of South Africans who have seen your video would agree. I have visited Mombasa more than three times (to do research at TUM), and I can honestly say I found people there very warm and welcoming. One little criticism: some people would converse in Swahili even in our presence in a conversation intended for all (I was with some people not from East Africa). Here in SA, people tend to use English when among visitors who do not understand our indigenous languages.
In a nutshell, Kenya is a great country which I like very much. If I were to list five countries I would emigrate to, they would be, in order of preference: Namibia , Botswana, Rwanda, Kenya, Ghana. I'm told Eritrea has beautiful ladies, but hey, I'm already spoken for.
