Wow this is such a detailed review! You've got me hooked to this series. I'll try to get my hands on this as soon as I can! And btw, I am watching all your videos from the very beginning... So apologies in advance for random comments on random old videos 😂😅
Haha, I often had only a couple of comments (or none) when I uploaded some of the 'older' videos and many comments are from later as people find them; personally I love it! Glad you liked this video - if you haven;t already, check out the other Usagi collected editions videos. If you want to get into the series (and I say everyone should! ) I recommend the Special Edition two volume set (recently reprinted) for these early stories and the paperbacks of the Usagi Yojimbo Saga for the Mirage+Dark Horse, both series easily available right now.
I have a recent interest in Usagi Yojimbo after reading a UY story made for FCBD. Your information is priceless! I will be scouring Ebay very soon here. Thank you and much love from frigid Minnesota!
It might be difficult to do but have you reviewed The Sakai Project? It has hundreds of different artists doing their own interpretations of Usagi it is amazing!
@@JohnSmith-lp1kd I would love to get my hands on a copy of that but have found it pretty hard to do so here in India. And I also wanted a copy that was signed by a bunch of people (Kickstarter exclusives, I think?) but the one time I saw one on sale it was very highly priced. So I guess I will have to just take an unsigned edition if I can ever find one!
Sakai has such a clean crisp style, animated but at the same time detailed & poetic. He’s in a class with my other favorites Darwin Cooke & Mike Mignola almost minimalist but their pace & story telling adds to the overall experience
Hey, could someone help me find some information on some usagi yojimbo comics please... I can't seem to find volume 2 issues 1 2 and 3 anywhere. The one site I went literally sold every single one except those three. Can someone tell me why?
The first three from Mirage Comics make up 'Shades of Green', a TMNT crossover story. Perhaps that's why they're harder to find? I didn't think they were all that rare though; I bought mine on eBay a long time ago, and they should still be more there. Also try mycomicshop.com if you're in the USA.
Old video I know, but it's good. I've only been reading Usagi for a year and it's been the newest comics. I'd love to try and get the older back issues but I may settle for the tpbs.
Thank you, so glad you enjoyed it! The Fantagraphics slipcase and the Dark Horse 'Usagi Yojimbo Saga' paperback omnis will comprehensively cover all you need! This is also an old video, but most of it still holds true for pre-IDW work, I think th-cam.com/video/Dv2PEv-ZLEw/w-d-xo.html
Really great video! Slight slip of the tongue when you are describing UY issues #21 and #22, the two part "Blood Wings" story, you mistakenly call the Kamori (bat) ninja clan by the name of the Neko (cat) ninja clan.
Steve Hubbell Full points to you sir! Yeah, I noticed that in editing but had no way of correcting it then (still trying to figure all the tech out). I admit I was wondering if someone would point it out! I’d annotate if TH-cam hadn’t removed annotations. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
They were collected with the regular issues around them chronologically in the trade collections and the larger Saga volumes, but in black and white, not colour ('Tomoe's Story' was in fact redrawn when collected). I think two of the stories may be found in colour in the Art of Usagi Yojimbo art book, but I can't confirm that as I don't own it unfortunately.
@@ftloc , you are indeed correct. "The Art of Usagi Yojimbo" contains two colour stories, in the "Painted Stories" chapter: - "Return to Adachi Plain" (pages 65-72) - originally published in "Usagi Yojimbo Book 4" hardcover edition, 1990 - "The Guardian" (pages 73-80) - originally published in "Trilogy 2 Tour Book", 1998.
Oh I doubt I'd be able to afford that 'prototype issue'! But it's not as rare as Albedo 2 I think, it did get reprinted too from what I remember. But in any case, I don't believe it has any Usagi Yojimbo, so I'm not really that interested, and it wouldn't fit in this video anyway! 😀
For the Love of Comics Cool...I was just trying to get info...I have one of the first print blue cover with the 1.50 on it...I can’t seem find much on it.
@@robertgarza6396 Depending on the condition, that's pretty valuable, I'd say. There were two white covers and one blue cover in the first printing from what I know. Even a second print can fetch a hundred dollars unslabbed. Check on ebay, you may be surprised at the prices!
@@ftloc no worries i can see how you could cause the comics themselves are so awesome i know id be overjoyed too when making a video on them i know i would it's all good i love all the Usagi Yojimbo series just all so awesome.
Thank you for the information I’m a new usgai fan and I’m just starting to get into it.
You are so welcome! It's brilliant isn't it?
@@ftloc Yes it is so far it’s better than a lot of anime at least for me and I’m getting a lot of enjoyment and I can’t stop reading.

Incredible collection, I had no idea this series was set in such a rich universe. Hopefully you'll make a how to collect/read Usagi for Beginners.
Arindam Sen thanks so much! Yes, I think a ‘how to read Usagi’ video is definitely called for...

As a hard sci fi fan, I love the Erma Felna comic in Albedo.
I've only read the couple of pieces in these issues, but it felt ambitious!
Momoko is doing a cover run of jimbo . I luv them!! I'm trying to collect her hole run
Nice! I've seen some of them online, they look very pretty! Good luck on your collection!
