@@Knifyre Exactly. The censorship is made worse when other card games that target all ages don't do this, at least not to this extreme. Digimon and One Piece are good examples.
They should make the game more mature and leave the cartoon stuff to the actual “Toon” monsters… maybe finaly give us “Toon” deck users some modern support… lol
It's funny how you mentioned that Speed Duels could take the "commander format" (with more life points)- This is exactly how I have been playing with my friends! 8000LP, 5 card starting hand, no one can attack during their first turn (so attacks only begin with the second turn of the first player). It's been working great, specially since we play more casual speed duel (singleton included, with the exeption of a fews cards). No one can OTK you that easily, and the average gameplay time feels right.
As a magic player I really like that yugioh knows what the focus of its game is. Commander has kept a casual crowd in the game, but its done irrevocable damage to the 1v1 formats. Its much better if that kind of thing is done by the fans and not by Konami.
@@williamdrum9899 Yes as they try to make 100 card singleton decks have the power of a normal deck. The color pie is in ruins and they keep pumping out legionaries with like 3 abilities. Universes beyond was commander first. Really all the worst trends in magic started with the "year of commander"
A 4-player Yugioh format should do it in a way that is on brand, instead of trying to force Yugioh cards to fit into some Magic the Gathering format. That's why I think the best 4-player Yugioh option should be played on a map and pay tribute to the handful of Yugioh spinoff games like labyrinth dules, capsule monsters, etc. Doing so would feel true to Yugioh and it would be exciting, instead of just trying to be MtG's wish knockoff.
@@crimsonleg4237 That's awesome! Do you remember any of the rules? I wrote up a rulebook for something similar. I posted it on reddit back in 2018, but I've since revisited the rules this year and updated a lot.
I very much agree with you. The design for commander is we make all the decks clunky and double the life points to make a slower paced game with less pressure. But yugioh is all about the now. I think that a 4 player yugioh commander is likely to just end up as the ultimate sacky format.
@@Shadowx157 if you play 100 card singleton. Tenpai is just as dangerous but they have to draw the card. So it ends up sacky. I don't know what you want me to tell you
Take everything with a greatest salt. They literally don't think about what they say they just blurted out.And they're like yeah that sounds cool. But you, my friend or someone actually thinks about things. Thank you for pointing out the obvious.Thank you.
I'd prefer if 4 player format isn't official. Keep it like how domain works Look at magic and how heavily they lean on commander to sell product. Sure it keeps casuals but it has killed most the competitive 1v1 standard and modern at a local level but it's also created the issue if before sets are out they're officially doing spoilers for the next set ahead or two. There's no rest. There's also balance where they shape the format harder too into a terrible balance that doesn't get corrected much unless all universally "go no we won't use X"
Speaking of well known sports people into yugioh… I enjoy professional skateboarding as well, and a lad sponsored by red bull went to Japan for skateboarding and got some yugioh packs. He opened up a tearelements fusion and said “this was crazy back in the day dude”. Made me think he’s at least masterdueling whilst healing from skateboard slams. We’re everywhere!!
Dont forget while commander is 100 card singlton about 30-40 of those are lands. MTG limited decks are 40 and normal decks are 60 so a 50 card singleton means you really only have 30 or less non land cards in the deck.
I now play pokemon, magic, and lorcana competitively and casual. Used to play weiss, digimon, duel masters/kaijudo. And even tho i used to play yugioh i know i will never return in its state. I quit at pendulums and now the game seems even less like the game i played from DM-XYZ.
40:49 I think for Rush duels to truely succeed in the west it would *need* DM recognition and be marketed as a reboot to grab the attention of casuals and former yugioh players and would likely need an anime and/or movie to accompany it
limitation breeds creativity. the domain format has a lot of limits however i have seen their games and it is still crazy. there has to be more limits on yugioh for it to slow down. i remember you were talking about how yugioh needs to slow down for it to be more fun. pure decks and stuff like that can do that however nowadays even pure decks are meant to go crazy. i think limiting the amount of special summons is something to think of but don't think there really is a way to collectively have a format for fun casual times unless you have personal talks with your own meta.
My prediction for the card Noah Lyles is gonna show off in Paris is either Dark Magician or all 3 Egyptian God cards (or even cards like Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon, or Red Eyes 🤷♂️)
it was only the titel alone that got me interested into watching 2 hours. i would love to play multyplayer ygo. i build a Goat deck and had played once with some friends. it was really fun.
I think i agree with paul about how yugioh is with its themes and artwork as is, the only thing i would change is for cards to not be censored moving from the ocg to tcg.
It would be cool if union arena got big, because Weiss Schwarz is super fun imo and might be better than Union Arena but its proven to not really fully break to the market. Duelmasters was a card game back in the day the I was big on and got my sister and parents to build and play decks. Even went to a mall tour event that had a demo showcase using almost kid sized cards to play the game. I partook in that and their tournament. If you read the statements in its full context, not once did Nintendo even insinuate disdain for AI. I think the speed duel shout is totally there. Theres been a really big want for tag duels to be something supported by yugioh and if konami could have made speed duels a format that is built for tag duels woulda been so sick.
23:48 as someone who still hasn’t gotten into Diamond ranking, this ELO system means nothing to me. Alec makes a very good point of the hard reset down a rank every season honestly makes me feel like there’s n value in dueling you’re way up to the rank you earned just to lose it every month. Konami needs to take that out of the game, I think it would help diversify the lobbies as well instead of this constant shuffle of top players going down just to curbstomp casual and lower skilled players
Is there a future yugioh format that sees hand traps kinda die off you think? I’m fine with them but sometimes deck building is just a little more fun when I don’t have to consider them in it
Dune format till pre phantom nightmare was pretty much more around board breakers. You're going to have to consider non engine but breakers are alot more wide and can open synergy within decks. Like we saw with cards like enemy controller or droplet's both being able to be used first and second as forms of backrow disruption
The question didn't even mention adding gore or sexier cards, just that it wouldn't be restricted by being a product for the one 6 year-old in the world that could sit and play Yugioh. Personally, I would love it cards stop being pointlessly censored, and I would love having weird, darker styles and tones of the early cards. Paul talking about Books-A-Million reminded me of when I played at Hasting's, they would give us pizza after we were done playing. That was a great time.
“Rating duels” sounds like something that should have always existed. And imo it shouldn’t be a separate mode, they should just add a new ranking that’s after master 1. Call it “master duelist” and have it work like legend in Hearthstone.
1. Stop feeding the ai stuff around Palworld. If it's proven, then go off, king. But it hasn't 2. They don't need to raise the maturity of Yugioh, but they do need to stop censoring cards in the west. It makes collecting cards feel bad because we're collecting the inferior/non-original art
1:18:07 XD Man, Remember in MGS 2 the AI was talking all high a mighty that Human's will make useless information and data and they would be best to inventing context to control the system and humanity?....sounds like Right now they are the problem
Regarding the pet peeves segment, I absolutely can't stand the constant hand shuffling as well. It reminds me of when people play shooting games and constantly swap between knife and guns like they've just downed a gallon of coffee.
I love that Digimon keeps doing new stuff and don't feel restricted by doing the same format every time. Also I love that they're trying to have more fucked up Digimon media like Digimon survive now or even ghost game or the 02 movie were pretty dark. But I totally agree that there needs to be a story and the episodic monster of the day format didn't work for me at all
If GX Season 4 characters come to speed duels, Darkness/Nightshroud could get Lair of Darkness. It's too perfect and the power level would be fitting for a GX final boss
I play these a lot. They are really fun with decks like DM, or trap heavy decks where a person doesn't spend long on their turn, but still plays a lot.... this does include pure runick.
My question is what do you love most about Yu-Gi-Oh the anime or the cards or even cosplay ? also what do you think is the most open and friendly part of the community at large? Personally as a cosplayer I love ygo cosplay I only play casually and the anime is near and dear to my heart .
Would love if 25th anniversary ended and ghost rares just replace that rarity. They can keep starlight in there too if they want I just want ghost rares back 😂
I think its so funny seeing YGO from the outsiders perspective. Because having started up collecting again 5 years ago I swear I had these peoples mindset. I was hella lost for about a year trying to catch up with what YGO has become. Edit: on the topic of the new rating duels thing. It really is for the top of the top players. Because I have never made it past Master 5. I made it there and decided I proved enough to myself considering I was using pure Melffys. Its cool for the people that can get there. But for me it doesnt matter at all.
13:11 Konami took the coward’s way out with that “Spell Card: Monster Reborn” card name, and they’re probably doing the same with the “Soul Exchange” equivalent too. They’re clear nods to the Battle City duels, an era of Yu-Gi-Oh where they called them Magic cards. They could’ve had “Magic Card” in the card name but still be labelled as spell cards in their card type. Heck, the katakana used on the Japanese card is “マジックカード”, literally “Magic Card”. Having a Spell card with “Spell Card” in its name just sounds redundant. On a podcast note, audio sounds pretty good. No problems on this end👍
I can't stand when someone is eating a greasy pizza and they touch my cards or brush their hands on their shirt one or two times and thank there's hands are clean
The problem I have is that I wouldn't want a 1:1 analogue of MtG's commander format. The fact that WotC isn't the ultimate arbitrator of bans and rules changes is becoming a massive pain point. Their ban reasons that have been provided aren't consistent, and cards that are fundamentally the same may or may not be banned. It's becoming completely soul crushing to the the quarterly rules update for commander and see that there are no changes to the format whatsoever.
Commander was best when it wasn't being designed for by WOTC. -Commander is a ramp combo format. I feel like all the commander cards are pushing 1v1 formats to be more that. Less aggro, less control, less midrange. ETC. -Commander's color identify is destroying the color pie to balance out the commander table. -Commander card design is marked with the largest power creep in history as they are pushing singleton decks to have the type of snappy rapid gameplay that 60 card decks used to have - One for one removal is bad much worse in commander than board wipes. Its not good for everything to trend towards this all or nothing style of interaction - Universes beyond is going to be a major source of problems with reprints and licencing. That all started in the commander market. By all means play yugioh commander. But Konami should never design for it.
Does anyone know if book stores still host tournaments? When me and my huge group of friends played yugioh in school, we never really had the issue of getting weird looks. It was kinda normal honestly. A few of us including myself would play both magic and yugioh during breakfast and lunch, while most of us just played yugioh. I played more yugioh then magic btw. It honestly just depended on which friends you had lunch with, depending on what game you played to pass the time.
I'm a novice yugioh player but I like to follow and collect the cards. If there was a 4 player yugioh duel format. You'd potentially be able to bring back all the original vanilla og monsters Bewd), fusions, and rituals, and many of the og magic (monster reborn), and trap cards while incorporating completly new sets focused on the 4-player format. That would be anticipated
They can't have a four player format the way the game stands right now. They'd have to limit the types of cards and decks you could use in order to work. The turn for one player already takes long enough. Imagine trying to wait for four people to play through their turns while trying to keep up with all of the combos and effects going off. It would be a nightmare.
Would love to see a new 4 player format or even just a official mode for it because while yugioh is fun. Similar to Fighting games it can feel a little limiting when it's only 2 people
@@MiguelMartinon Difference being that you need to use lands for spells in Magic, and there is also a clear progression of the game. Its never resolved in the first turn, compared to YGO where the first two turns already decide the game
@@LittleMushroomGuy 4 player formats have completely different logistics from 2 player. you start with a hand of 5 up against 15. you start in a resource deficit, trading 1 for 1 just doesnt win games. sure you can ash the branded fusion, but you just dropped your starting hand to 4 and you still have 2 other opponents at 5. and the branded player already got the card back to the hand.
It absolutely can. Look at domain format. Most hand traps I've seen are archtype ones that are battle tricks like kalut or actually progress your decks Idea like tear stuff. You're not playing 1 for 1 trades in a 4 player format. Especially in a singleton format
If they bring Rush Duels over, YGO can switch to a more mature audience. Since based off the Rush Duels game on Switch, they want to target very young children.
About midway data squad i stopped following the digimon anime fusion completely lost me. Imo Adventure 2 is my favorite Veemon is easily my favorite partner digimon especially with its other digivolutions. And BlackWarGreymon of course. Even adventure 2 and Tamers had darkness in it ESPECIALLY Tamers. But the current anime is a no go for me.
Rude complainer duelist and skippers big annoying for me. Once I had a Zombie player say to me playing Lightsworns "ugggh I hate Lightsworns". Then they activate charge of the light brigade on their turn. Lol
AI is just a tool, and it'll be a part of our lives, more and more as time will go on. Eventually it'll be accepted, so why resist the inevitable? Remember when drawing tablets weren't considered "real art" either? Now everyone uses one. Very few use pen and paper anymore.
Me and my friends are working on a YU-GI-OH commander esk format called millennium format. I run a card business and sell the big three and i think its a winning formula.

This is a hot take but i think 4 player formats suck. First time i played MTG was 4 player commander and it was not enjoyable vs just playing 1v1.
Me still praying for a dungeon dice monsters reboot 😂
One of the earliest TCGs ever (Vampires of the Eternal Struggle) was designed for multiplayer from the ground up and it face planted.
I play these a lot. They are really fun with decks like DM, or trap heavy decks where a person doesn't spend long on their turn, but still plays a lot.... this does include pure runick.
There was a yugioh game for Xbox 360 that had online tag team matches it was really fun
What was the name of the game?
@@loch1361 I think it was called millennium duels it’s peak yugioh back when brotherhood of the fire fist was top tier
They can keep starlight in there too if they want I just want ghost rares back 😂
Flesh and Blood mention!!!
“Unbig your back” might be the funniest thing I’ve ever heard Paul say 🤣🤣🤣
You guys talking about people trading when playing filled me with anger, I hate when people are distracted.
I’m really sad about the purrelyly limit I usually play purely with ghostrick and this will stop me from going udf and 2 noir
The comic con mat will actually be worth 1200 bucks because of konmi new mat policy. If it ant official you can't use it lol
I guess you can keep the gojo sauce and not eat it but when you get another gojo sauce you eat that one
I highly recommend you guys should give the GX subbed version a proper go!
Do any of these pet peeves still apply when you are playing casually with your friends just at home?
I can't stand when someone is eating a greasy pizza and they touch my cards or brush their hands on their shirt one or two times and thank there's hands are clean
Great, now the yugioh crossduel nightmares are going to flare up again
-Commander card design is marked with the largest power creep in history as they are pushing singleton decks to have the type of snappy rapid gameplay that 60 card decks used to have
- One for one removal is bad much worse in commander than board wipes. Its not good for everything to trend towards this all or nothing style of interaction
- Universes beyond is going to be a major source of problems with reprints and licencing.
Just position the cameras so you guys are facing each other. Happy 4th everyone
agreed!
For the record. His name is pronounced Anton Greece-Man
I'm a novice yugioh player but I like to follow and collect the cards.
If there was a 4 player yugioh duel format. You'd potentially be able to bring back all the original vanilla og monsters Bewd), fusions, and rituals, and many of the og magic (monster reborn), and trap cards while incorporating completly new sets focused on the 4-player format. That would be anticipated
Thanks for the vid!
Couldn’t listen to this on Spotify you sound so far away
I have yet to see the AI google stuff. Is this a US only thing?
I see what you did there. aPaulogies nice one
Who’s here after Noah Lyles won the gold?
I am just here to hear Paul get mad and swear not gonna lie :D
Shout out to that 1st comment. I too recently came back to YGO via APS and I too am still working on my Traptrix along with my Zombie decks.
They can't have a four player format the way the game stands right now. They'd have to limit the types of cards and decks you could use in order to work. The turn for one player already takes long enough. Imagine trying to wait for four people to play through their turns while trying to keep up with all of the combos and effects going off. It would be a nightmare.
Just look at how domain format works.
It's a pretty fast game and offers a cool restriction on how you build decks
Would love to see a new 4 player format or even just a official mode for it because while yugioh is fun. Similar to Fighting games it can feel a little limiting when it's only 2 people
Hey, good you guys are ok
Imagine getting ashed 4 times in your turn
Yugioh cant exist the same way Commander does
I mean, if commander has color locks, then only fire decks would be able to play ash
It absolutely can. Its just that people aren't willing to tweak the rules to allow for positive change.
☝️
If they bring Rush Duels over, YGO can switch to a more mature audience. Since based off the Rush Duels game on Switch, they want to target very young children.
I'd rather play it digital otherwise. Paper isn't doing well in the West
Lol
Why did you guys change to remote just wondering?
@@BobbyBuche because they’re in different states. That’s literally the second thing they said in this episode. Lol
@@TheAlmightyTujbut is that a permanent thing?

Remember when drawing tablets weren't considered "real art" either? Now everyone uses one. Very few use pen and paper anymore.
Me and my friends are working on a YU-GI-OH commander esk format called millennium format. I run a card business and sell the big three and i think its a winning formula.
Where can I find the rules?

Yugioh needs a Netflix live action adaptation.
