  • Michael Singer's work has changed my life. I hope you find his talks helpful.
My channel includes his older talks (2020 - Aug, 2024). His newer material can be found on SoundsTrue's TH-cam channel: • The Michael Singer Pod...
You can learn more about Michael Singer at his website www.tou.org.
He’s written several books. They are phenomenal, even the ones written in the seventies. (I will receive a commission if you purchase books through these links.)

If you’re wondering what Mickey’s saying at the beginning and end of each talk, it is:
Jai Guru Dev, Jai Masters. Jai Guru Dev is a traditional Hindu phrase that means Glory to the Great Teacher (the most accurate translation would be glory to the shining remover of darkness), where the great teacher here is generally considered to be the Divine Soul, while we, as human beings, are considered the individuated Soul. Jai Masters means Glory to the Masters, some of whom Singer refers to at times.
Thank you for visiting. Peace, my friend.

I knew a guy in college and his name was Guru Dev. In pronunciation it was one fluid word that would sound like "Gur-Dave". When my Punjabi buddies told me it means supreme God in Hindi, I was like, what hubris, who do these guys think they are!? I get it now, but at that time it was tough to conceptualize and accept, and I grew up in Berkeley, a kooky, super tolerant, environment. 😅

What techniques do you use to distract awareness from objects of consciousness to focus awareness on Seat of Self?

Why is being fully emerged in programming for 2 hours and then realizing it is a high state? Can someone please help me to understand? What is difference to be unconscious? When someone is fully absorbed in an outside object... Programming... Isn't it losing the seat of self? Not knowing what is going on right now... Thank you for your help! ❤🙏

Being fully immersed in programming is the same as a musician being fully immersed in the music. You are so conscious in the present moment that you are not distracted by the external environment. Your mind is not wandering. You are focused in the now. It is possible to be this fully immersed in acts like washing the dishes. I believe Brother Lawrence wrote about this.

I agree with the previous explanation to your question. In my simple way I look at distractions as negative energy. Eg, when I wake up I'm somewhat negative and need to re calibrate my mind to positive energy. I sit alone and think about how I was lucky to have been "chosen" to be alive and that I AM life itself. Not separate and battling it, but part of it. Like a drop of water is part of the ocean thingy. Then when people start getting up and distracting me, I notice my thoughts towards them or when the leaf blower dude starts in with his obnoxious machine. It's taken some time (years) but I say to myself they are like me. They are doing their thing. They are not here to piss me off and who is it that's pissed off, anyway? They are temporary, like all conditions and I am grateful to witness them. I accept them and there is no condition they can afflict me with, unless a allow it. The Brother Lawrence aspect I've heard in Buddhism too. It's pretty much that you do what's in front of you. You see it as you get to do it as opposed to you have to do it. So you do a expert job at it. I think like this: This is what I'm doing and there's nothing else I'd rather do. I'm gonna do such a good job. I often find myself thinking about how nobody is as thorough as me at this. Then I'll go the extra mile and polish the sink until sparkling. I also tell myself that they won't even notice or say anything and I'm ok with that. And I'm right, they don't. But I know and I don't need any validation or approval.

I am not sure what your definition of programming means.
If you are asking about when we do something and concentrate and are completely absorbed in focusing on what we are doing and do not get distracted, can we consider that is experiencing a state of flow of energy that is not interrupted by distractions of the thoughts of the mind or feelings of the heart or any object of consciousness?

Thank you all for your answers. 🙏 Maybe I got it now a little bit more. Maybe Michael Singer meant it that way that being absorbed in doing the thing to do in front of a person is a higher state than being disturbed by the thoughts or emotions, getting into them. And there is also a state higher than that: being conscious. Thank you all for your help!
