College peeps!!! The picking a major part is SO true. I'm literally an accountant & that doesn't sound fun but you know what I can afford to do? Fun things that arent my job 😊
2. Literally just journaled on that earlier! The company you keep MATTERS! If you surround yourself with people who have accepted their fears & limitations, you will eventually do the same the more time you spend with them. Boundaries & cutting ties where needed is a non negotiable life skill! 💯🌅
Yes to the passion thing! It has taken me 41 years to learn that trying to find a passion to turn into a career is not for everyone. Thinking that kept me stuck forever. What I am passionate about is freedom and enjoying life. Something I didn't do for far too long because I kept trying to find "my passion" in relation to work. Find something you like that earns you a decent wage that affords you time and money to live and then live your passion in your free time. You will be so much happier.
Great advices. Even if you follow your passion.. people’s passion change as they grow up. Pivoting is normal but being financially stable helps a lot. The people you surround yourself with will define you.
I agree especially when it comes to what you do - when I was younger everyone was preaching “find your passion” and I believe it led a lotta ppl astray! Yes a few ppl were hugely successful combining their work/careers & their passion but most ppl weren’t successful especially if you are also targeted! Navigate Wisely!
I love my friends, they’re good people but I need more variety in my close friendships. It’s annoying to be the one leading activities and planning. I’m an introvert but I like to go out, do things, meet people, see the world. Sometimes I feel like my friends are holding me back because they aren’t putting themselves out there. I spend way too much time counseling my friends, being their cheerleader. I need a cheerleader too! It’s always been like this. Okay, not always. I have been blessed in the past with outgoing or ambitious friends and that energy helped propel me forward. I need more of those people. I still love my current friends but I just need variety. We really are the sum or average of the ten closest people we surround ourselves with, so it’s high time I collect some additional personalities in my inner circle. I hear from my friends all the time how I have inspired them to be brave, go for something they deserve, blah blah blah. It’s seldom I can say the same about my friends.
Do you tell your friends your goals and dreams though? I was similar to you and found when I started sharing my own dreams and desires, I was surprised when many of them supported me. The ones that look at you like an alien or dismiss your dreams are the ones that need to go!
I 100% agree with all of this, OTHER than not following your passion. I did, and I own my dream business and will retire by 50. The secret is to stay out of "bad" debt, so you can AFFORD to follow your passion! A little less money spent on joy, so that you can life a joyful and FULFILLED life!
@nofybn7794 🤣 😂 LUCKY!? It has nothing to do with luck. I've worked 2-3 jobs since I was 16. Between jobs, I read and study to increase my skills and knowledge. I've bought almost everything second hand... vehicles, clothes, furniture. And I did it with no college degree or financial help from anyone. It was hard work and sacrifice that got me where I am, not luck. Try it, you could completely turn your life around in 1 year if you give it all you've got. Or you could post sad sack comments like this while you sit on your sofa, bummed that your life isn't what you want it to be.
I agree! Followed my passion and one thing I don’t think we teach enough (if at all) is innovation. For anyone reading, learn how to innovate and be the go-to person for the thing you are good at. That means research and continued self-development. The world can’t run on only engineers, doctors, lawyers, and we’ve seen times where even those professions struggle. Doing what you’re good at naturally will help when times get tough and eventually they do. I know plenty of engineers who were not living well after 9/11, the Recession, and some now. I know a handful of nurses who couldn’t find work, even as travel nurses, during the Recession. I had a friend who was an accountant and five years in, realized he couldn’t spend the next 25 years in a cube. Three male friends that drank themselves to death because they did a job they hated, but it allowed their family spoils. Follow your heart, use your head, and be financially aware. The world needs all of our talents and skills.
There's always luck involved. You did work hard and luckily it paid off. Some people work hard and it doesn't. You could've done all that and could've had a brain aneurysm that cost you 100K in medical bills before you got off the ground. You could've been shot by a stray bullet. Or a natural disaster happened where no one can afford anything and barely survive. None of these things are in your power to control.@@Kelly_Ben
Bellisima! ❤ thank you so much for your advice. You are soooooo on point about the friends. I noticed that I was becoming "the fifth." 😅 I made a change.
I picked my majors based off of my passions lol. I’m a mathematics and physics double major and I’m graduating this spring. I applied to astrophysics and physics phd programs (also a passion I guess) because I enjoy doing research.
Asking for what you want gets easier when you realize you already don't have it and so you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. They can't tell you no any harder.
You don’t have to do law, medicine or engineering to be successful. They’re just fields with many job openings for lucrative careers. But if you’re incredibly passionate about painting, movie making, cooking, acting… don’t give up your dreams (but have a plan B)
When I was younger I didn't care about money that much because I like nature and nature is free. But now, I want money because I want to help animals and create an animal sanctuary. And be able to afford gardens too. And I guess I do want stuff!
This looks delicious 😋 Did anyone try to substitute ground chicken for ground turkey? Did you like it? Trying to use just what I have at home to save a trip to grocery store.
Girl the “don’t get a job that’s your passion” is unequivocally the best advice but hard for many
College peeps!!! The picking a major part is SO true. I'm literally an accountant & that doesn't sound fun but you know what I can afford to do? Fun things that arent my job 😊
😂
Girl😂😂😂. Sound advice

You’re awesome 👏🏽 and great advice as always! May everyone reading this meet their goals for 2025

It’s ok to follow your passion!!! I DID and I’m happy and successful!
So did I, though I understand that this doesn’t always work-it’s sure nice when it does!🎉
It's not the best advice across the board. You are the exception, not the rule

Friendship isn't a one way street
Do you tell your friends your goals and dreams though? I was similar to you and found when I started sharing my own dreams and desires, I was surprised when many of them supported me. The ones that look at you like an alien or dismiss your dreams are the ones that need to go!
We live the same lives! It's as if I wrote this myself 😮

Lucky you! Not everyone is so lucky
