Currently his range (so far from a multitude of his live international performances) is six octaves from F2 to a sustained D8. You can hear him holding the D8 note at about the 4min 39 second mark of the Gakku concert performance of "Unforgettable Day" - th-cam.com/video/u52XDilf628/w-d-xo.html This was actually the first performance for the China competition's new season of The Singer 2017 [which was why the crowd was excited for it to start at the beginning] -- but what is often overlooked is that he was pretty much a complete unknown to that audience [he's from Kazakhstan and didn't speak any Chinese at that time], and he was the least expected or anticipated to do much since he was pretty much unknown to the audience [which is why he was placed to go first -- the most anticipated singers were set to perform last on that episode]. Another point often overlooked [although you'll often hear reactions commenting on Dimash having an Operatic sound in hi voice] is that Dimash doesn't rely just on a single vocal style or genre... His Pop vocal is quite different from his Rock vocal which is different from his Classical Vocal which is different from his Operatic vocal which is different from his Rap vocal -- etc. etc. etc. (and yes, there are some phone videos of Dimash with friends just having fun rapping) Since the projection and tone is so different between (for example) his Pop and his Opera vocal, he has mastered switching between them even mid note, which then allows him to blend into the next vocal or range change as well. He can even mimic a Pop Autotune effect naturally with his voice, without any equipment. He rarely uses it -- most often just near the end to change one short song phrase to give it a separation, like another observer voice in the song. I've only found 3 clips so far where he uses it (as I said, it's rare, and he only uses it for a specific line enhancement -- not for major parts of a song)... first time I hear it, I was surprised thinking it was a Pop Autotune effect [the one that makes the singers sound like they're singing through a trick mic] until I saw a clip of him doing the same thing without a mic. He's constantly working on new vocal techniques and tricks, and will often use live performances to try new things. One comment he has made frequently that he felt so unsure about being on The Singer 2017 because he was the youngest one on the show, and he was so excited learning more vocal and stage techniques from the other older performers. He said it was one of the best times of his life (although exhausting with the schedule) because he got to learn so much. When he was still a kid, in his school choir, his music teacher made him sing both the boys and the girls parts -- which Dimash admitted he hated doing at the time because he didn't want to be teased or sound like a girl. That was probably the best thing that could have happened, because it meant he learned to switch between vocal parts and ranges automatically so that his body and voice now reacts flawlessly using muscle memory.

Hey Nephi! Thanks for introducing your friends to Dimash. It was fun watching them see him sing for the first time. You were wondering about his training... Dimash is a third generation singer who began voice lessons at the age of 5 and is classically trained in opera. I watched a documentary about him and his voice teacher and several other opera singers said that there were less than five male contraltos in the world and Dimash was one of them. He also has perfect pitch and doesn't use falsetto... he sings soprano with his vocal chords connected. I have no idea what most of that means but they seemed pretty excited about it so I thought I'd share. Take care. 😊

This was such a fun video to watch😁 thank you for introducing your friends to Dimash 😊 yes, Dimash started taking piano classes when he was 5 and vocal classes a couple of years later than that. He was classically trained vocally that’s why we often hear that “operatic” sound when he sings. Also his crazy breath control was achieved through years and years of classical vocal practice. Dimash was born and raised in Kazakhstan and Kazakh is his native tongue. He will be 24 yrs old in May. He is 6’ 3” tall. His parents are both singers and both are Kazahkstan cultural attachés and both famous in Kazahkstan. He has two younger sisters who he adores! A really cool kid. He is only one of about three known singers in the world *0(men and women) who can actually SING WORDS in the whistle register, the register above falsetto, and his highest singing note is higher than the highest key on a piano! He is obviously trained in operatic singing but mixes pop, rock, opera, and other genres of singing and music together which makes his appeal even to a wider audience. He recently released his first CD. He’s been singing since he was 2 years old. He plays an instrument that is native to Kazahkstan as well as piano, drums, and several other instruments and he sings in his native Kazakh language as well as English, Chinese, Italian, and French. You also would enjoy Dimash and Laure and the their duet of several of MJ’s songs, he is a fan of MJ’s most of his life (TH-cam search the live version from the Chinese contest “the Singer” from 2017 for this duet) in which, BYW, he came in second place - um, WHAT?!

Dimash was born and raised in Kazakhstan and Kazakh is his native tongue. He will be 24 yrs old in May. He is 6’ 3” tall. His parents are both singers and both are Kazahkstan cultural attachés and both famous in Kazahkstan. He has two younger sisters who he adores! A really cool kid. He is only one of about three known singers in the world *0(men and women) who can actually SING WORDS in the whistle register, the register above falsetto, and his highest singing note is higher than the highest key on a piano! He is obviously trained in operatic singing but mixes pop, rock, opera, and other genres of singing and music together which makes his appeal even to a wider audience. He recently released his first CD. He’s been singing since he was 2 years old. He plays an instrument that is native to Kazahkstan as well as piano, drums, and several other instruments and he sings in his native Kazakh language as well as English, Chinese, Italian, and French.
