This 20 hour first class sleeper train was NOT what we anticipated!
Our time in Vietnam has been nothing but amazing… until we got separated on a train that would take us 20 hours north from Da Nang to Hanoi! It was an experience that’s for sure!
First class could be questionable. But it certainly felt like 20 hours on a train! Let us know what you think of train travel. Would you take this 20 hour adventure?
Here is a little bit about us:

I really like VN after having lived and worked there for 10 years and we finally made it back to VN this summer after 10 yrs in the West. Practically everything had improved and will always love VN for its people, food, scenery, cost, etc. but I must say VN Railways had not changed for 10 years. I understand VN Railway is at a crossroad while waiting for government on what type of new railway system will it uses but it can certainly invest in its train bathrooms and its top cabin amenities. I understand many locals still use it as a means of inexpensive transportation but its top cabin and all of the bathroom can be improved. Seems like all aspect of VN is putting on its best foot forward to continue improve VN's image as a great tourist destination but VN Railways is not doing its part.

Had to chuckle when you talked about solo travelers doing this. A few years ago I took the night train from Hanoi to Sapa as a solo female traveler. I was put in a room where I was the only person that spoke English and the woman in charge of our car also did not speak any English. During the night there was a landslide and the woman in charge came in giving instructions. I had no idea what was going on. Luckily one of the young men in my room used google translate to tell me that I was to follow them. That we were being put in vans and taken one hour down the line and then back on the train waiting on the other side. We were all given blue plastic rain ponchos and we looked like an army of smurfs escaping the train. I found the people on the train so nice! But after a lovely time in Sapa (one of my favorite place in Vietnam) I was happy to take a VIP van back to Hanoi. ( and it was quicker ) ! Can't wait for your next video. ( oh did Dev's socks come clean after walking around the train? caught a glimpse of the bottoms once lol )

Once you’re in the North of Vietnam, there are 4 must go places that you definitely wanna cash for:
    - Ha Long bay (the world’s best heritage)
    - Sapa town (The Fansipan: rooftop of the Indochina)
    - Ha Giang: breathtakingly gorgeous spots. Trust me!
    - Hanoi: food, markets, weekend-only walking street,
    Cheers and enjoy

I've taken a similar train from Da Nang to Hue along the coast. I wasn't in a sleeper berth, but a"first-class" seat. It was... an adventure. Here in Japan, I'm used to getting to my train by walking on an overpass or through a tunnel to the train platform which is very safe. In Da Nang, we had to walk across the tracks... live tracks (!)... that trains were running along. That blew my mind. There also wasn't any raised platform. You literally had to climb up onto the train with your luggage from the ground. Still, Vietnam was a great place to visit with friendly people, delicious food, and beautiful scenery. We would like to go back someday.

I known South Afica when i watched World Cup 2010. Wavin' Flag song so awesome. In the international music video of "Wavin' Flag", there are clips made in Nha Trang, Khánh Hòa ,Vietnam. Although the crew of this MV secretly went to Vietnam to record, without revealing any information, nor captioning in the MV that they went to film, but viewers still realizing the idyllic village scene and the simple people of Vietnam, any Vietnamese who watch "Wavin' Flag" feel proud to realize that their country 's image is being broadcast around the world. With me "Wavin' Flag' is the best World Cup song ever.

If you are both still in Viet Nam, pls don't miss out this dish ( Nem Nuong) . Nha Trang has got the best one. But you both can try this one in any other cities in VietNam , hopefully it is as good as the one in Nha Trang city. Greetings Khale ( p/ s just type Nem Nuong Nha Trang then you both will get some grip about how this dish really is . This dish is my favourite one in Viet Nam, so far )

I believe you have to book all berths in the "Stateroom;" then its One-Party, One Room . . . I think a multi-day trip in the day coach is pretty common, but you do develop relationships with the other travelers sort of like birds in a tree. . . a daycoach with facing seats and you can spends hours listening to people telling about their son in college etc . . .😺😺😺

    Wow! Brave adventure travelers!
The Reunification Express is not for the feint of heart....
First Class accommodations in Vietnam do not appear to be up to the commensurate designation in western countries.
Sharing sleeping accommodations with complete strangers is not my idea of first class.
However, on the positive side you got to see a lot of the country side that you couldn't see from 35,000 feet.
Can't wait for your Hanoi and Ha Long Bay videos.

Boarded this sleeper train back in 2016 and I know you guys were holding back in this video 😂 it was rough! The beds were unsanitary and reeked of urine. The rooms where the AC did work - it would be blasting arctic cold air for one period of them and then shut off randomly and the room would get steamy hot. Terrible toilet units. Literally got sick and rashes after a 12 hr rush - I'm not sure how you guys survived 20! 😭

    • @doodahgurlie

@@terryevans2467 It's usually better to take the plain or VIP sleeper buses than the trains in Vietnam...the only time tourists should take the train is if they want the experience. I know I cannot do it. I get jittery on a 3 hour flight, never mind a 20 hour train ride crammed with people and noises.
