- For the end of our Night in the Woods Let's Play, we animated this to contain all of the feels the game gave us. This is our tribute to Night in the Woods, including a look at how we brought it together.

Its always interesting seeing how a minute of animation takes all of this work which only last about a second. You make a whole 3D environment for a few seconds of the animation. I don't think I would be able to do any of this. Great job as always.
The environment was an interesting one since a lot of the objects in there were repeats, like the Bookcases and Vases. We could focus on making the limited pool of assets and arranging them in an interesting way for the compositions. The flat texturing also helped to keep things lightweight.

Haha, that was a Toon Boom effect I put on near the end! I think you can do similar things in After Effects, or even put your frames through Photoshop and use the 'mosaic' filter on them!
I waited til I was done watching your entire playthrough of NitW to be rewarded with watching this beautiful gift of an animation and process vid. The whole complete experience was a far bigger gift. Crazy watching this after not having seen it since around the time it was uploaded, reminds me of what I think of as good days of my life, the music makes me almost want to cry. It's really weird to think that this game will be 6 years old on feb 21st. This game 100% changed my life and likely the way I see the world, some may call it dumb saying that a game changed your life or the way you see the world, but it's really true, this game is a masterpiece.

И с одной стороны, вроде бы и жаль, "Demon's Tower" и правда уделяют относительно мало внимания, а с другой стороны - эта сцена единения Мэй, Беа, Грега и Ангуса была классной. Как и тема их запечатления в созвездии.

At first, I thought "what an amazing animation! This might inspire me to go draw some more!" And then I look at the channel, channel banner, and overall art style and realize "my God, these guys also worked on the grumps variations, another one of my favorite videos!"

It still doesn't make sense how little recognition this game had, undertale took the spotlight. If it wasn't for undertale, chances are NiTW would have a much larger following. Thanks to people like jacksepticeye this game did get a bit of recognition.

Just out of curiosity, how did you manage to colour the frames from Toonboom to Krita, and what file did you guys export/convert it into?
Hey there Nurul! Thanks so much! I believe that Swift exported image sequences of the inks from Toon Boom, more than likely as png's or tga's and then were imported into Krita to be coloured in there.

I love that Mae looks like she's leaning on Bea. I've always loved those two together, How despite being two entirely different people, they still lean on each other because they are the only ones who truly understand what the other is going through. They keep each other standing through everything. Sometimes you just need someone who is there. Proximity Counts for a lot.

Gosh this is amazing, one of the things that makes me so hesitant to try and get deeper into animation digitally has mostly to do with the fact that to really make a good product you need quite a skill set, I know a bit about after effects, but toon boom, and blender are beyond me at the moment, plus I can't afford toon boom.
It's often good to collaborate with a small group to bring something together, that way you can overlap you skillsets and learn from one another. Toon Boom is pretty expensive, but you can try out animating like this in software like Krita (which is free).
Don't know much about Krita but I'll take a look! Thanks so much.
You're most welcome, if you need any advice on it - we stream on weekdays 7-9am UK time and we can answer questions there. Plus often we have a member of chat present who knows Krita way more than we do. :)
At the end of everything, hold onto anything.
