    I see some negative comments below. I think some people came to this lecture without wilfully searching for it. Sheikh Murad has some spiritual depth, hence it will not appeal to everybody, especially some non Muslims who are not open minded. So there no need for disrespect, if you disagree (or don't want to understand his point of view) then please move on.

    “The one who is on the middle path, is not on the path of indulgence or moderation, he is still a radical, but his radicalism consists is in denying the logic of modern world which pushes one to one extreme or another. What flourishes under modern conditions is either Mindless fundamentalism or mindless conformism to the growing modern consumerist mono culture. What doesn’t thrive is wisdom, beauty, truth, tradition, selflessness and humility. Those are the rare properties that undeniably siraat al mustakeem bestows upon us.”
    Thank you sheikh

    Thank you Sheikh Marud. I've been struggling with some of these ideas for a while and have felt stricken by how paradoxical and contradictory my attempt to merge the materialism of modernity with Islam has become. Thank you.

      You should also read the "medival book" and see for yourself what it says before discarding it on the basis of its time of origin!

      john smith Yes Sheikh Murad AKA Timothy Winters is a Muslim gem in the western world. My favorite sheikh, very balanced like the orthodox Muslims of the past. Keep listening to his lectures, you won't be disappointed.
      May Allah reward him ameen.

    @AntiKaratekid I do not wish to speculate anything, Mr Murad in my view one of the intellect that I highly take serious and find fascinating. He is is very well read and critical of issues most of us simply don't see. I am watching more of his video, I believe there is more to his message than this clip, I should not judge him for this 54 minute lecture.

    Agree, those that find his robes distracting click and listen to someone else. There is more to life and the "west" than the extreme reductionist view of "material advancement."

    @Malangsufi It can be said that they find them "old and meaningless" precisely because they have lost touch with them. How can one appreciate what one has forgotten? Anyways, I am sure the Sheikh has considered your viewpoint but has come to a different conclusion. Either that or he agrees but has reserved this lecture to covering a different aspect.

  • @EnjoiningKnowlege

    He's definitely an intelligent man. Perhaps the real tragedy here is that you're too wrapped up in your presuppositions and biases against religion to lend an open mind to what he has to say? What is true remains true regardless of who says it. Lose the presuppositions and then you'll learn a lot. Peace my friend.

    I agree with you with this, but the problem is how can we set a standard for such rates? I am all for rapid advancement of technologies which ease human life and save it. We should not be so cynical of it. Instead we should be a good user, not an abuser. Anything can be abused.

    Technological progress should be at a natural rate but a focus on technology as a hope for a better life is wrong. We should be part of nature and not trash the planet for money. If you have to use technology to make up for the damage technology has done, then it makes sense. I've nt expressed myself well, but i hope u understood...

  • @Malangsufi
    @Malangsufi 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Technology can be a distraction no doubt.

  • @Malangsufi
    @Malangsufi 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @boopooist No the directly attacks technology and blames it in the most indirect manner for the reason why people are lacking faith. He assumes lack of faith and losing touch with ones old custom is to be blamed to modernity, he seems to not to realise people do not lose touch with their custom because of technology altering the content but most people are in fact finding believing the content of their custom as something as old and meaningless.

    Yes, they were.
    Instead of asserting gratuitous, false and uncited statements, why not simply sharing with us what you heard at 2:30 ?

  • @yesweknowthedrill

    however, that said id take him more seriously if he werent religious, being religious and being a thinker dont exactly coincide, one is about using your own brain and coming to your own conclusions and the other is about obeying what some medival book says or you will "suffer for eternity in hellfire">

    I dislike this rather cruel generalization Mr Hakim is making. The microphone front of him which is amplifying his speech, the video recorder which has recorded his speech and the internet which host his works are all great example on why technology is infact a good thing. The problem is down to human nature and human will. I wish he addressed that more in depth.

    HOW SUFIS CORRUPTED ISLAMIC CREED?
    Abu Hamid Al-Ghazalee(died 1111 ) wrote the book 'Ihya ‘Uloom-ud-Deen' for the sufis, according to the methodology of the (Sufi) people, which he filled with baseless ahadeeth even though he knew well they were baseless. He spoke about knowledge of the Mukashafah (unveiling of unseen by Allah to Sufis) and withdrew from the principles of Fiqh. And he stated such things as: ‘Indeed the stars, the sun and the moon, which Ibraheem saw, were in fact lights that screened Allah!’ Such things are not mentioned in any of the sources of knowledge. Rather, this is from the types of speech of the Batiniyyah.
    He (Al-Ghazalee) also said in the book 'Al-Mufsih bil-Ahwal': "While in their state of wakefulness, the Sufis are able to witness the angels and souls of the prophets, hear their voices and take hold of benefit from them. Then this condition escalates from the witnessing (of their) images to levels in which they are contained within these domains."

      Are you saying that you dont believe in Tasawwuf my brother? If so, Im afraid you have to be corrected. Hopefully your knowledge is great enough for you to realize your mistake here. If you struggle with understanding the concepts of Tasawwuf maybe you need to study more into your deen... Take care friend.

      Reject tasawwuf ( sufism/ihsan) 1/3 if the religion is inaccessible to you.

      Funny how you wish to turn converts away from Islam. You are part of the problem Sanaulla Sharief. Do us all a favor and keep your mouth shut until you educate yourself more. And your ego is getting in the way of your deen. Best look into getting yourself fixed. Shameful excuse for a representative of Islams you are... I think your uncomfortable with the fact that he is of a different ethnicity and knows vastly more than you do. Typical egomaniac. Sad that so many of the cults across the word bread this kind of mind you have.

      Abdal Hakim Murad is one of the greatest Islamic scholars of the present time. Like he says in the speech-semi-educated muslims could not grasp the subtle realities of the deen. My brother, try to elevate your semi educated state first then your veil will start to be removed.

      Abdulhaki Korbajram I was born and raised in this tradition. . I have observed it is the Muslims who were born and raised as Muslims who destroy the religion and that it is actually the converts who express Islam at its highest potentialities of awakening and transcendence, also in scholarly work they far excel the close minded insecure Muslim born scholars who set out with biased intention to prove “they are on the winning side religion”
