@@CrownFanI heard phantom, Boston, Bluecoats and crown last night in the lot. And phantom most noticeably the loudest hornline. Their approach is very different, and tone wise most old school in my opinion. The other three especially Boston and Bluecoats have more of that Texas approach
Phantom’s rise needs to be studied. 5 short years ago they were fighting for a spot in finals. Now they’re beating some of the top corps in the activity in certain sub-captions. This season they are simply undeniable. Phantom is one of the big boys once again, and how sweet it is to see them back. I cannot wait to see them live
JD Shaw came back, he was the brass caption head from like 1994(ish) to 2011, he went to SCV in 2012 and they shot up, came back to Phantom in 2020. When he left a lot of that great staff came with him, and now a lot of them are back at Phantom and they consistently get better every year. The design team/staff is VERY important and they tend to stick together. One of the biggest reasons BD is so good is because they’ve had a consistent staff for forever
Wow props to the bass trombone for the fly or die solo @7:48, I know how hard that is, interesting hearing the faster bits with the euph but it still sounds great!! Love the beefy low notes! Edit; if you want to hear the craziest version of it I’d listen to Lionel Fumeaux’s version. It’s what I’d play along to (or try to) in college!
I realized after the 8th time of watching the ballad, that is also has a very evocative callback to Babylon 2017 - that show gave us "My Body Is A Cage"... but this one gave us "Your M(Y)ND is a cage.... THiese cages are of course cubes that are tumbled all over the place instead of the modular nesting platforms SCV used.
WHY ARE THEY NOT TOP 3!!???
THIS IS MY FAVORITE SHOW THIS SEASON!!
Mine as well!!!!
SAME ‼️
Just because it’s your favorite doesn’t mean it’s cleaner than the other shows
For starters, because the guard is holding them back...again.
@@larrymccollum5888disagree! Their lowest caption is percussion.
10:42 dont think ive ever stood up to yell so fast in my life before holy mellos. Best closer of the year. Definitely the crowd fav

The return of JD Shaw to write for them is a HUGE part of their renaissance; he is to Phantom the same as the REnnicks are to SCV>
@@ZakhadWOWAnd ironically the same as how the Rennicks used to be for Phantom

My very first time attending any sort of DCI event, great experience
Same here!
7:02 tenor feature 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Awesome show!
Once again i can see why they wont be at the top
This show is the child of Carolina Crown 2012 and Bluecoats 2015, honestly
