Scott, thanks for this. Excellent information. I'm sure I'll have to watch it a few more times to catch everything. Cleared up some of the questions I had though. Looking forward to the next installment. Hoping I can actually catch that one live!
Hi, thank you for a really interesting and informative video. I’ve just got REW and a umik-1 and started doing some tests on my room. Be only watched the fist 30 mins but have already learned things. Better still , your relaxed style is inspiring me to learn more and get some sense out of the tools I’ve got.
Hi scott, great stuff, but i have some questions. When you measured the output of the amp, did you use a load to the amplifier? 4 ohms, 8 ohms or no load at all? Since output of the amplifier increases as impedance drops, am i getting true 2.84 vots if i follow this method you used if im measuring a 4 ohm woofer and then an 8 ohm tweeter? My amp its an Adcom 545 II and i set my lap top volume at 50% directly to the amp for consistency. Greatings from way down south Mexico.
Hello. With regards to the impulse setting of the IR window, can you please tell me, due to the sweep total time, does the IR take snapshots of the room every time the IR window time is spent? I'm a little confused with how the rest of the reflections are removed and not just the first reflection. Thank you. I hope you find the time to respond.
@@qihong3886 USB Microphone and he's likely running from his line out on his computer, or has an external DAC that runs rca to his amp. There a lot of ways to do it.
ok, you dont like scale by formula the sensitivy of the port, but how you do that in your video isnt really clear to me, can you please describe your approach? thanks
I tryed this and run into an error. when i did measure my woofer in nearfield the impulse response started at -14ms. any idea what went wrong ? tweeter and midrange measurements are ok. i have to say my setup is a bit wired, i use a FA123 for the TW/MR/upper Bass and then i use the XLR out into an FA112 which powers the BR woofer. if this would cause a delay the impulse, the measurement should start after zero or am im wrong ? -14 ms doesn't this mean it is a timing paradoxon, the signal is recorded bevor REW is sending it ;))
REW in single ended mode is really bad about finding the start of a subwoofer post...it's not surprising that this happens. Either use it in loopback mode, or do what I do, which is shift the IR response to get the window to start at 0.
@@speakerscott thank you for the input.i will try that. i was afraid that my idea was wrong (connecting 2 plateamps for a 4 way) . i was searching for an alternate to the omnimic measurments (too much room reflections there) and found it in rew as i saw your video ! ;)
Idk what all the other people are hearing here in this video saying "very helpful, good video" bc this has got to be the worst fkng video in TH-cam history. Talked for a damn half hour and didn't say a damn thing. I'm sitting here with my laptop, REW on my screen, and didn't get a single piece of information to get me started.

Very helpful. Looking forward to next session. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge! Very much appreciated.

Scott, do you plan on doing a follow up video on this?
The best tutorial for rew , thanks

Thank you.
Man I'm loving this stream. Great info that so many people don't consider when measuring.

Okay...figured out that error at the end...had to do with how I was gating that response, read more here:

@speakerscott Do you have a video for generating and applying a baffle step diffraction frequency response curve? thanks!
Thanks scott, still following for the next one 😉
Incredibly informative and also fun to watch. :D
When can we expect this experience to continue? )
I just got REW and a DATS w USB mic.
Need to learn this stuff
very informative, thanks.

Hi, i have some questions. Where the test signal comes from? Maybe DATS? And the microphone just connects to computer? Thanks.
If there is some recommendation about hardware, that will help understand the measure.

this is great
do you know how to create convolution wave files with rew but in stereo
for different corrections right and left speakers ?

where do you have the volt meter hooked up when you are trying to get the 2.83v output? Maybe I missed that.

Do you have standard implementing paper for me to do? 😂 I need help to be able to clarify what thing to do. 😂
So the sensitivity is 110 DB?
Only measured nearfield....there are correction factors to get the 1m and farfield levels.
Sorry couldn't get into this. I wish to learn more about REW. IF there's anything useful on here please edit it down and repost it. Cheers.
LOL, sure, the science kid, we are making the wolrd get better, each time you hear that annoying sound, think about all those little hungry kids
