The first ingredient is the one you are born with: ability. Great lacrosse players have that 6th sense, that great 360 degree vision, great players use their ears, they listen, they hear. In short, great players can be formed, but great players do things never seen before, and most importantly, they love lacrosse. I grew up watching Jimmy Lewis play. He went to the Wall and perfected his game. I would follow him like some stalker, down to Uniondale High School. He would play all kinds of games against the Wall. I became a Wall devotee, playing with both hands and a wooden stick. I made myself a great stick handler. The hours at the Wall gave me ultra-stong hands, arms and wrists. My favorite drill was shooting the ball as hard as I could and catching it behind my ear. Jump rope, go to the Wall, and most importantly, get the job done in the classroom, I forgot to mention, lacrosse players are smarter.
I totally agree, I was a 4 spot a year guy. Won 13 Championships in 5 different spot and went pro in 1. I’m 45 now, and having my first training of of a lax player. You need the other spots also to understand the spot your Focusing on better. And it helps you in way just doing one spot can never do alone.
Started playing lacrosse for the first time this year in college. Prior to this I’ve played soccer basketball tennis baseball and football and they have helped me tremendously compete at a higher level
Hey man im currently a Freshman and I really want to get into lacrosse and play this summer, do you have any recommadations what I should try doing to get better?
@@Jason-ee3yl best thing you can do is condition (if you’re not already in shape) and practice against the wall any day you can. It’s definitely the fastest way to get better by yourself. Throwing with friends is even better if you know anyone else who plays
I absolutely agree with you bro,I'm 14 years old right now,and I started to play lacrrose this year and expect lacrrose I play hockey and basketball and it's very helping me to get better at lacrrose
I think an alternative idea to those that really wanna expand on their lax game would be to branch out to other athletes that play in other positions, figure out how their minds work, how they play lacrosse. Figure out new ways to play the game. Dont just keep playing the same game of lacrosse because im sure theres players out there that did only play lacrosse. But like for me, i play chess, soccer, lax. Soccer helps with my footwork and positioning, motion, agility and stuff like that. Chess with strategy. Theres so many more things in life you can apply to sports and such. You just have to learn to be creative. While yeah sure playing a sport will help you, so can other things. Videogames are very competitive and strategic. They can require mechanical skill too. Weightlifting alone teaches technique.
Started playing lacrosse this year as a sophomore in highschool playing basketball and soccer before helped be tremendously learning slides like aj etc, and Switches and zone defense.
My son wrestles in the winter and football in the fall. Wrestling has helped his explosiveness and endurance. Also has helped his mental game. Football honestly has helped his Dodge and vision of the field and reading what defenders are doing. I wish more wrestlers here played lacrosse because those kids are all gas no brakes.
I think this is a great video and you covered everything very well, I also agree with what you're saying. Although, there's definitely the one-off single Specialty athlete who excels only given one sport training. I excelled in every sport I played at every single level of the sport because I played multiple Sports my entire life from a very young age. I played soccer and baseball since i could walk. I picked up my first lacrosse stick at grade 6 and walked straight to varsity my freshman year of HighSchool.
@@holymonke4958 Try to practice every day to make yourself better. Don't repeat the same things. I wanna play other sports but don’t know where to start, I’ve never played anything other than lacrosse and am not good at other sports. I’m at the age where you have to try out for everything and don’t think I’ll make any of the school teams
I’m in high school and I want to play lacrosse but I’ve never had the opportunity to play but I applied to a school that has lacrosse will I be able to start my lacrosse career in high school
Cardio and Confidence. You should aspire to run the whole game and be that “go to” player that everyone wants to pass to and every opposing coach wants to double team.
Good question - you don't have to play on a team to still get the benefits. For example, you can play pickup basketball at your local gym without having to play on an actual basketball team. Does that make sense?
I would say no on your regular season but when it’s your off season and you don’t have practices I would say do a sport that takes thay time. It doesn’t have to be school sport either
Sorry bro, stick skills are the secret. You can play tons of other sports but if you can't cradle, catch, pass, and shoot at an elite level you won't be elite. Simple as that.
As much as I hate baseball, it is very important to lacrosse. Understanding the proper throwing motion helps you learn the physics of a quality throw/shot in lacrosse. It helps with your feet/hip/shoulder alignment for one thing. But the mechanic of stretching your arm/hand back, then bending your elbow to generate torque translates directly to the mechanics of a powerful push/pull shot with your stick. Again, I think the sport itself is boring and sucks. But never discount the lessons you can take from one skill and translate it into another
