- Brand new Stihl MS500i. Establishing baselines between the two saws. The Dolmar has a relatively new piston and cylinder upgrade to 7910 (79cc). The Stihl is brand new out of the box. Running 20" ES Ligth bars on both with new out of the box Stihl RS chains.

I have no idea what the 500i retails for but I imagine that a feller could almost buy 2 Dolmars for the price of the Stihl.
The ergonomics of the 6400/7910 series is what makes it hard for me to pick up any of my Stihls or Husqvarnas. It's just hard to find a more well rounded saw.
Either way both nice saws....
I know this is old but, you took the words right out of my mouth. There’s just something about my pro model Dolmars. I rarely use the Stihls or Husky’s anymore. Surprisingly Echo is growing on me with the purchase of a 620 model. Makes my Stihl 362 look bad.

I was happy to stand in for you Doug, since you were off the day the question was fielded, apparently! I sincerely felt as if you'd have said exactly that, except in a much more concise and informative manner.
Common knowledge that people from Indiana are incredibly intelligent. I know I married one and haven't outsmarted her yet. So in closing I do apologize for taking liberties while pilfering your exact thoughts. All and all, much ado over nothing.
But yes, its a superior saw due to its simplicity, durability,power and ergonomics.
So buy all you can before their gone and all of the 52mm piston and cylinder kits possible and that market strategy could put someone in the position to
RULE THE WORLD....

Paper specs don’t cut wood. In the wood results are what matters.

Both very good saws. The Dolmar is a little faster, but the 500i seems to have really nice torque.

Dolmar sounds bad assed but something was up with the chain on that 500...

Chain needs sharpened.. at least on the 500i. I dont understand how people run a dull chain.
That's been a year and a half and the chain was replaced with new one from the box. There's a series of videos on my channel dealing with the 500i. Even with the same chain it wasn't a match for the Dolmar though.
I like better dolmar...
dolmar eats stihl lol have makita line trimmers nothing on the market has the same power to weight as a dolmar

The 500 is a nice looking saw.
It weighs 13.7 pounds power head only with no gas or bar oul. So damn imagine this full of gas and bar oil with a 32" bar weighing in less than my 460 with 25" bar In it and being .8 horsepower more I'm obsessed with this saw I'm dying to buy it but may be over year or more until America can buy these
