So talented and smooth. But a can’t help but wonder how the Platters felt about entertaining this audience…but not having the right to sit amongst that audience.
The music might be contrived and hard to replicate. But the sheer experience of their unique sound. Puts the Platters in a special place in the hearts of their legions of fans worldwide. Just the memory of that song comes drifting back from vault’s , long since locked away in our stored memories. No wonder they say music is good for us oldies, as it sure remedies the vault’s of time. Seeking out Rythm and melodies we had long since forgotten. And the words and lyrics, which set our voice’s trying to emulate the original sound. That entrapped us in the first place. And the song and the music lives on, it’s structure indelibly imprinted on our minds hearts and soul.

The Platters were and remain a legend, a vocal group that made doo-wop a sublime art, appropriating it to the point of making it impossible for anyone after them to use it without being accused of posing as their imitator.
I was a teenager in high school when the platters were popular and they were my favorite group. Very professional, classy and sang beautiful music. Those days are gone with the wind never to return.
I was a teenager in high school too when the Platters were recording all of their beautiful songs. Weren't we the lucky ones to be part of the 1950's and all of it's unforgettable music!👏🎶🎼
I became an instant fan of The Platters when I saw and heard them sing in that 1956 block-buster "Rock around the clock". In this great musical, they delighted fans, the world over, with two perennial hits "Only You" and "The Great Pretender". Sometime in 1957 "I'm sorry" became a major hit on the Binaca Hit Parade as also the "Top of the Pops". When I visited Bombay on a vacation, I sang this number with the Hal Green Band and while "self-praise is no recommendation", I received quite an applause for a follow-up number. Of course, I obliged with my rendition of "Rock around the clock". I wasn't a threat to Bill Haley, but the kids jived their feet out. All this occurred when I was just 8 years old.
The Platters should have followed as top one at least for 10 years more. I understand they declined after the four men were arrested in 1959 on accusation of drug and prostitution plus the parting of Tony Williams to make an individual career.
Met the platters back stage in Trinidad I was with my mom ,I was 13 and Zoila Taylor had on perfume that smelt so good,I've loved wearing perfume since that

Difficult to say that'cos you are getting all singers together in "the crooners" period of time, but yes I get you. Don't forget Nat King Cole 😉✌🏽
