Ashwatthama is a character in the Hindu epic, the Mahabharata, and the son of Drona. He was trained in warfare and is described as a mighty warrior who fought on the side of the Kauravas against the Pandavas in the Kurukshetra War. He was cursed by Krishna with immortality for his attempt to kill Uttarā's unborn child. Here are some details about Ashwatthama and his curse.

There are seven chiranjeevis (immortals) in hindu mythology, who are known to be on earth until the end of Kalyug. Actually they say 9 immortals including Markandeya and Jhambavanth, but they mostly say 7 who are: Bhagwan Hanuman, Ved Vyas, Guru Krupacharya, king Bali, king Vibhishana, Bhagwan Parashuram, and ASHWATHAMA. Kalki is one of the Dashavatars of Lord vishnu, who is believed to come at the very end of Kalyug where evil and injustice will be at peaks. Kalki will come to erase that evil and wage war against evil people on earth at that time and establish peace again on earth, like all other avatars if Lord Vishnu. Kalki movie is fictional interpretation of this concept and Ashwatthama is involved in the concept as he is immortal and walking this earth since Dwapar yug. He was cursed by Bhagwan Krishna at the end of Kurukshetra war to be immortal and suffer with leprosy and wounds all over body. People will not even come near him due to his state and he has no choice but to live alone with wounds all over and be immortal. He was cursed because even after being warned, he used bhramastra to kill unborn son in Uttara's womb (wife of Abhimanyu, Arjun and subhadra's son). As entire kuru vansh is dead including all sons of Pandavas. Uttar's unborn son is the only hope who can start a new dynasty. ashwatthama releases bhramastra, but he doesn't know how to take it back. Bhramstra is a very divine powerful weapon there is no stoppage to it. It goes straight into Uttara's womb killing the foetus as thats what Ashwatthama says while realising it, it should end any heir left of pandava family. It makes bhagwan krishna furious, and he curses him with above mentioned curse. The foetus in Uttara's womb is again brought to life by lord krishna and he names him Parikshit, the one born after facing a huge challenge before coming into the world itself.
