Google is not this "unicorn company" that they like to believe they are...Google is far from a "workplace utopia". It's similar to any other Mega Corp now...that's why you need Reality Checks like this video...and for more Career Advice, let's talk here: calendly.com/econethan/career_advice

My theory is that every individual tries to change the rules of the game in a way that favors him. Smart people will always push for high standards, meritocracy, etc... an environment where they will thrive specially if they are introverts (most are by the way). Dumb people, on the other hand, will always push for popularity contests and a "friends helping friends" mentality, they will always avoid meritocracy or any system that benefits brains over popularity. Companies are full of dumb people so what kind of system would you expect to find?

Yes I go over this in my Adventure Driven Development series, and I compare the three types of people you find in corporate environments to the three hindu gods

DEI hire is what brings down the company because they hire people who are not the best fit for the role so they bring down the productivity. Also DEI hires know deep inside that they are DEI hire so they will cling on to that woke victim mentality, which creates a toxic and hostile work environment.

"at the beginning they were smart. later hires were not so highly intelligent people" notice though that the hiring process itself became much more difficult. But people learned to game these interview questions etc. When you try to actually learn and master your trait you don't have the time to game this "fashion" interview process and most likely won't be as successful as a "career focused software engineer" coming from a reputable university where you are used to such a grind.

The federal government is the same way: a fucking antique shop! The good thing about me is that corporate will never hire me to begin with.

Yeah Ethan, those fucking digital time sheets... I had to fill out 2 different ones, and sometimes I could not remember every single minutia of what I did that week. How could I? I was too busy working through the ticket queue, the projects queue, along with the meetings, the user "shoulder tapping", etc. Worse of all was that huge end-of-year sheet that spanned multiple pages smh. The manager should be able to organize and determine all those metrics, why are you asking me what I did and didn't do? Am I really going to be expected to throw myself under the bus? Sigh... 🙄

6:26 Honestly that does make sense. It’s great that companies want to be more inclusive but when it comes to job that shouldn’t matter. A job should just be about getting the required tasks done, can you do that or not? It shouldn’t be about fitting metrics just because you don’t want your company to look racist, sexist, etc. Like that sounds like a good thing but in reality the quality of the work is obviously going to suffer. You can’t just lower the standards for someone so they can get through the door and expect them to give the same level of work.

Nah. You have MBA’s that are US citizens which are absolute dumbasses. You really wonder how they even got hired and it makes you question your own prowess/competence. On top of that, some of them are unpleasant to work with.
Some of the best people I’ve work in tech with were Indian, Chinese and Polish.

Blaming DEI and calling it woke is a cop out and ignores the true issues at hand. The fact that is about profit and the stock market ticker is what killing the standards, creativity, and the company.

Вообще-то умные люди если у них есть уникальные идеи то должны сами их воплощать. Искать инвесторов. Если они верят в свою идею. Эти люди просто переросли эту компанию и она им не нужна.

It's not a matter of these companies getting large and they hire more people based on race. Is is simply that they are to large to manage. All companies go through this. A slight increase in all demographics is expected with anything that goes public. Look at video games for example. Obviously there are more black, Hispanic , etc programers than when many of these companies were just two people. The problem is always simply size. Teachers face this when increasing student class size. 15 student compared to 35 students. RIP your classroom management. Brittan colonized so many countries until it could no longer manage them effectively and ethically. The same is true for ancient Rome.
