    First let me thank you for your Kove videos and for your honest experiences with the bike. I went and saw one today (shout out to Rugged Roads in Hampshire, UK! ) and bearing in mind your experience's, I specifically looked for the two issue areas you raised - I was pleasantly surprised to see that it appears that Kove have already listened to you (?) and the alloy axle block now seems to have a steel plate that locks the axle nut instead of a rdige in the alloy casting and the oil filler plug is now plastic!. I applaud these small changes. This is in the UK of course so I'm wondering if its a slightly different (later) version to the USA version? or if this was done in response to issues uncovered by use in the USA - maybe the UK importer specified it, I have no idea but just wanted to pass on my findings to you and everyone else interested in the bike. Cheers from the UK and keep enjoying the fantastic riding opportunities in Arizona!

      Hey that’s great info!! Thank you for the update and it’s awesome to see changes. Kove USA was in constant contact with the factory about the need for updates long before the bike landed as a production model in the US. I’d imagine you’re spot on that my issues are from an older version and based on the simple fixes that took place between preproduction and production, I can’t imagine they’ve stopped upgrading!

    Excellent summary and thank you for such detailed sharing of your objective experiences. I have not had your issues but also have kept mine mostly stock. DBT JL also addresses your concern as well with the “5 times vs 25 times w fasteners and bolts changes” for Chinese metal vs euro and Japan. Us early adopters will be the first to experience all the hiccups.

    That sucks your kove has been leaking oil. I thankfully have not had any leaks on mine. Now, my brand new husky 701 i bought 4 years ago had 4 or 5 leaks on it that occured in first 200 miles. They took several months to warranty the first one, second one same deal then 3rd and 4th i fixed myself. They also have that issue with the slave cylinder o ring that has been going on for ever pretty much and they still never addressed that and keep reproducing it. My experience with warranty work from kove and gpx has been really good but i wanted to point out that the "leading brand ktm and umbrella companies" have the same issues with far less support for us consumers. Ive also had threads strip easily on that lc4 motor. Im hoping kove addresses these concerns the consumers are having in the future since theyre still a young brand and shouldnt ruin what they got going on. Time will certainly tell on reliability of the metals and bolts used on these bikes but i hope not everyone has the issues your having. Thanks for putting yourself out there and making videos its not easy to do

      Hey, thanks! I really appreciate you saying that. I know all bikes have issues. Most my experience has been with Japanese bikes and for the most part, have been darn reliable and parts quality. My recent ktm’s were also really well made with few issues. All brands take some time to work out kinks in the beginning and new models. Innovation takes failure! I’m being proactive about replacing commonly removed fastens with better quality stuff as to not have problems in the future. For the most part, the Kove is beefy, thought out and performing nearly flawless!! Hoping to keep it going!

    Hey, this is what I look for in a long term review! Thank you for keeping us updated and being honest. Been following you ever since the bike first arrived. The Kove 450 rally is still the motorcycle I'm probably still going to purchase but at least I know what I'll be getting into.
    Your channel has been a great resource and I have no doubt it will continue to be. I will still be keenly following your experience. I do sincerely hope it continues being great and gets better for you and the machine

    We purchased a Kove, tore it down, did solid testing in very little time. Like you, we wanted to see for ourselves what the bike was in Texas. We sold it 2 months later! Like on our IG, we will only say that, no slander, no trash talk, the Kove was not in our best interest.

    Thanks for share your feedback, we know your good intentions. I’m a future owner and I appreciate it.
    I expect some litlle issues with non “critical parts”…like rim lock weight, wheels balancing, quality of the fluids, brake pads,…I asume that are in constant mantenance and probablly they reduce these costs.
    I dont know if its true, but I read in some place that rally pro model have titanium bolts. Any one know if its true?
    May be the initial kove design and torq was defined with rally pro model and titanium bolts and exaust.
    It’s like with the standard model modifications they don’t have much care….adjusting torq, adding canister (vent problems), standard exaust (foot interference with cat).
    It’s only a personal idea like a futur owner, in order to improve it.
    I dont know if the rally pro model has any diference with axle block. We will wait for a CNC alternative.
    Thanks for your videos!!

      Yes, I can confirm on the Rally Pro the hardware is titanium. I can also say that the linkage hardware in stock form was not adequate for Mason as he bent the crap out of it and said the diameter was half what a ktm or Honda is. The footpegs were also not able to handle legit pace and abuse and would taco in little time. HOWEVER, this is not that case for mere mortals like you and I, in which case these parts are thus far not showing the symptoms of someone who is going balls out on every track.
      Once the venting issues are addressed, there’s really nothing else you HAVE to do to the Kove. It can be run as it and I think 99% of the riders out there would be satisfied.

    • @DirtByk
      @DirtByk  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No, they oil leak was happening almost from the start. It’s very minimal and only leaves residue and doesn’t actually form droplets or collect on the skid plate. I’m here to give honest info about my experience, and am not concerned about resale. When I posted my issues on the North American owners group, about a dozen other owners said it was happening to them too so it isn’t isolated.

    • @DirtByk
      @DirtByk  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      More strikingly is the fuel venting issue. No matter what, if you go slow in warmer temperatures, the fuel will boil up and push out the caps. If you keep the bike moving fast, this does not occur. But if you ride with your kids or someone new, the bike will undoubtedly build pressure in the tanks and push fuel. Now that’s a major flaw and I’ve done every suggestion from Kove USA to stop it with no such luck. Its gotten better, but still pushes fuel.

    • @silverhill377
      @silverhill377 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DirtByk I appreciate your honesty. My bike has flooded out of the lower left canister as well. Now I just never fill up the rear tank. It's just the front two and partially in the rear and I don't seem to get any leakage. Haven't had my tank off to inspect the cylinder head. Resale is not a big deal but at least the axle and oil fill plug have been addressed in 2024

    • @silverhill377
      @silverhill377 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      On the same note, there's thousands of stories of various KTM models leaking fluids and having failures and people still buy those. Everything mentioned in this video is fairly minor and non-catastrophic. The people who bought this bike in its first year took a bit of a chance like any new model and hopefully things will get tidied up for 2024 and beyond. When you first rode the bike, you did not like it at all and you stuck to your guns for a video or two. And then you loved it. Now you have a few issues and you don't sound so happy again. Maybe in a couple of weeks you'll resolve the problems and hopefully have some Carefree miles with the bike. I also noticed you did a lot of wrenching on your bike adding aftermarket parts and Electronics. You may need to take some responsibility for some of the things that might have stripped. Just pointing out a few things. I have also owned about 35 or 40 bikes and occasionally striped something even on my Yamahas. As I mentioned, I don't fill up the rear tank fully and sometimes not at all. Maybe not ideal but I haven't made any adjustments to my bike yet regarding the fuel issue and it no longer leaks. Happened to me once when I filled it up all the way with the 8 gal.

    Thank you for your honest review. I am on the fence about buying a Kove or a Tuareg. I know the Tuareg is heavier but I hear that it is honestly very capable in the dirt. I come from dirt bikes. I am worried about the long term thread reliability of new manufacturers. Here is my reasoning.
    1. Most Chinese OEMs are able to copy Japanese design like the showa fork clone that helps bring down cost
    2. The 2nd area they can cut cost is in materials. This is a weak link for most Chinese OEMs.
    What they do well is
    1. Listen closely to customer needs and give what's missing which in this case was a unicorn bike with long range and decent road manners and good suspension with modest power
    2. Direct to consumer cutting and paying attention to issues and fixing them quickly. I do believe Kove will do all that is possible to fix the issues in the future bikes but the early adopters will have to live with the issues until then.

    • @DirtByk

    Thanks for getting this info out there brother! I don't think this has anything to do with you possibly doing shoddy work on the bike. Poor quality hardware is a major issue in many different industries. The amount of wrenching that someone does on a product is definitely a factor, as well, which I see you are well aware of. I'm at 960 miles and I just did my first tire change last week. We'll see how it goes, but I thank you for getting this info out there, because It helps me to know that I better baby this metal when I'm doing work on it or issues are likely to pop up (and still might pop up anyway). I haven't removed a lot of the stock bolts yet, but they definitely come very tight from the factory!

    I will give you credit. You seem to be the only honest Kove owner. And doesn't seem like Kove or PisterPro/GPX/GARY is paying you. A manufacturer can put all the specs they want on a bike, but if they make it with cheap materials, it's shit. That is one of the conundrums of a China bike. The CRF450RL is only $1k more, they both need ecu's and the Honda would need a larger tank. Yes, the Honda will cost more to set up, but it will also last for decades and have parts available for the rest of your life. Not to mention the performance is better. I do my best not to purchase Chinese products but I am very interested in the Templar 250 6 speed ($2k) and CFMoto MT/Ibex450 ($6.5k). Both are actual values that can't be matched. I would never buy either for my main bike, but they would make nice additions to the collection.

    • @BraapTales
      @BraapTales 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The double standard around Chinese bikes is very interesting. If someone says something positive about the bike they are immediately a shill. If they say something negative they are "the only honest Kove owner" The reality is myself and Todd (Dity Byk) are just people who are not rich looking for the best all-around value proposition we can find in the market for our needs. I have not hidden a single negative thing about the bike (in my limited time with it so far) nor do i intend to do so. At the same time, I won't be hiding any positive things about it, either. That's what honesty is.

      @BraapTales You only have 2 videos, and I don't think I've ever commented on them. There are more YT reviewers that have been paid in some fashion who don't give honest and complete reviews than there are people who spend their own money. I'm not rich either, which is one of my points...Why spend $9k on a gamble when $10k will get you a sure thing.

      @@jonwoodworker You have commented on my 500 mile review, criticizing me for saying the bike is pretty much race ready. (Which it just 1-2ed a rally in Tunisia this week, and at the time of my review won an enduro in the UK) I've watched almost every Kove review there is out there, from all all around the world, and aside from maybe some AI generated junk, or click-bait shorts, have seen little, if any, shilling going on. Meanwhile, the amount of "reviews", mostly from professional media, of the major brands that don't even say a single word about possible downsides are too many to count.

    You - clearly! - overtighten the axle(s) .... why? Zero need as they'll stay put, and putting any Locktite on is simply silly!
    Refer KTM's various torque settings and learn form those, there's very little needed - and perhaps start using a torque wrench again? You will surprise yourself I'm sure.
    I agree with your remark about high OEM torque settings to the various fasteners, but this is probably because they've used some locktite or why.... do NOT repeat when reassembling, use moderate settings like I've said KTM does 👌

    • @DirtByk
      @DirtByk  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You’re totally right. I don’t remember putting loctite on it and there was no remnants of it on the threads. I was just trying to come up with a reason why it bend the axle block. It would be completely silly, you’re right on that one! I’m being much more careful on torque now.
