  • Tesla Stock Analysis - We speak with one of Tesla's most rabid enthusiasts Warren Redlich to discuss Tesla's ( $TSLA ) potentially insane growth. Between Tesla's Robotaxi and selling 30 million vehicles a year by 2030, is the stock currently ridiculously undervalued? Will it hit $10,000 if it meets its goals?

    Well, Tesla has performed well and jumped so much. If you invested back then when the initial public offering’s price per share was just $17, your investment would have paid off. Therefore, it is undeniably possible for Tesla to hit $10,000.

      @fanfare100 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      It's not even about Tesla's technology, it's about Tesla thinking out of the box and not following stodgy incremental conventional and not caring about what the "experts" say. Like, when it bought $1.4B worth of Bitcoin when bitcoin was at $33K, so where is it today?? Bitcoin is at $54K. So the conventional institutional investors can go fly a kite. lol Because Tesla almost made a Billion there as people were shouting to Elon that he was being "irresponsible". Will they learn? No. But Elon will continue to be the Honey Badger. Likely, as of today, Elon is the richest man in the world again.

      @@fanfare100 I still think it's foolish. If you believe the company has plans for superior technology, the money they have raised should not be going into Bitcoin, but instead into R&D (or production facilities and marketing, if you think the product is good enough already). Bitcoin is volatile as hell, and so even if you think it's going "to the moon" one day, it may well be down 75% by the time they actually need it. And if they don't need it? Well, then they have no new ideas and then it's better to buy Bitcoin outright and not having to deal with a tired car company.

    • @fanfare100
      @fanfare100 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@alxgrepe And all the while since Elon Musk purchased $1.4B seeing that his Bitcoin has gone up so much that he has gained $1B from that purchase and soon very likely to double his money he will have all that much to throw into R&D.
      As far as anybody can see, Elon certainly does not seem to be hurting in the R&D department. lol He's blowing the doors off of his competition. And with his Bitcoin investment, he appears to have blown the doors off his competition as well, as well as blown the doors off of anything most institutionalised career investors have advised. He's a person who thinks out of the box.
      It's pretty much proven at this point that despite the volatility, had the most unsavvy of "investors" purchased Bitcoin at _every_ All-Time-Highs, today they would be better off than any managed Vanguard or Standard or Carl Schuabb fund would have managed to produce even for high risk and high growth.
      Elon is where he is today and has accomplished what he has primarily because he is a calculated risk-taker. All of the other stodgy corporations move at a snail's pace when it comes to innovation and getting things to market. If I go by what track record shows us, I pretty much can trust Elon to be Elon as it has been very hard to match him and likely that is mostly in part because he does not abide by conventional wisdom and is like the honey badger and doesn't care too much about what tradition and too much risk aversion may dictate. So far, most of his risks have panned out to be very good calculated risks. The proof is in the pudding. He's totally outdone NASA and Boeing and LockMart and you name it. All power to him.

    • @alxgrepe
      @alxgrepe 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fanfare100 Well, either you need the money and use them, or you give them back to the owners. Otherwise he could just as well invest in fine arts. That would also be outside the box. Again, speculating with your cash reserve seems crazy.
      And yes, I agree with the idea that you would have made money, but then agian, you have not taken into account it's at an all time high or close right now, and could just as well go down like in 2017. Then the facts are different.
      And no, all other companies are not slow, do remember that Toyota has had both electric cars and hydrogen cars in the works for a long time. They just need to manage making money today AND tomorrow. And, you don't hear about them because of, well, they're not Elon Musk. He is not God, he's a great storyteller and visionary. When they make a solid profit in a mature market and the stock holds up then, well then I'll applaud him, but not for a stock that goes up on promises for 2025-2030.
      As for the rockets: agree, he has been starting something new at the right time in history with things like harnessing immense development in computer power. Of course, NASA is not outdone, remember they are the ones who took us to Mars a few days ago...

      Apple iPhone ~$700? People upgrade every other year? That's $30/month and Apple has a hardware cost.

    He’s in the correct ballpark (it’s all an educated estimate). I have $7,879 because I applied Wright’s law - that the cars will become cheaper to buy over time. Please critique this, is my maths correct? Solar and storage looks very small too??
    1. 2030: EV sales of 20 million pa.
    2020 EV gross profit was $6.977 billion
    2030: 40x production volume is about 44.6% CAGR in production of EVs
    Wright’s law: production doubles 5x in 10 years
    Therefore 5/10 x 28% as Wright’s law = about a 14% reduction in EV price pa.
    2020 Gross profit therefore grows at (44.6% - 14%) CAGR for 10 years
    Therefore $100.7 billion gross profit in 2030 from EV sales.
    2. EV owners allow the Tesla Network to use their cars for 12 hours per week as Robotaxis (this figure is taken from Elon in the Q4 2020 earnings call). This doubles the gross profit coming from EV sales.
    Complete gross profit from EV sales is therefore $201.4 billion pa.
    3. Tesla owned Robotaxis
    10 million Robotaxis at $30,000 gross profit pa
    $300 billion gross profit pa
    4. Combined EV gross profit is $501.4 billion pa.
    Solar and storage
    Total 2020 revenue from S&S $1.994 billion
    At the same gross profit margin as the EVs in 2020 of 25.6% = $510.4 million gross profit pa
    2020 produced 3.022 GW of storage
    2030 goal is 1,500 GW of storage
    That is a CAGR in production of 86% for 10 years
    Wright’s law: production volume doubles about 9 times in 10 years.
    Therefore the drag of Wright’s law is 9/10 x 28% = 25.2%
    The net CAGR of S&S is (86% - 25.2%) = 60.8%
    2030 gross profit of S&S is $510.4 million at 60.8% for 10 years = $58.989 billion gross profit pa.
    3. Combined 2030 gross profit pa is $560.389 billion
    4. 2030 share price.
    In the Q4 2020 earnings call, Elon said the share price of $883 was justified on the basis of 2 years priced in. That was
    $50 billion revenue of EV sales. At 25.6% gross margin that is $12.8 billion gross profit
    Plus $50 billion of gross profit from 12 hours a week of Robotaxi use
    Therefore $62.8 billion gross profit pa for an $883 share price.
    2030 share price is therefore 560.389/62.8 x $883 = $7,879
    What do you think?
    Solar and storage looks very very low. I believe Tesla will have huge solar farms in most countries, so I’d expect S&S to actually generate vastly more gross profit.

I know that the avg american uses 527 Kilowatt hrs of electricity a month. 1 gigawatt hr is equal to 1 million KWH. But how is Elon measuring the production on batteries?

    • @JarrettAldrich
      @JarrettAldrich 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. As I see it.... a vast majority of Elon’s companies are electricity-based. The cars, Semi, solar, power walls, etc.
      So, fundamentally speaking, the output of BATTERY production is the root variable for the production of all other products.
      If he produces X amount of kw battery cells, then we can easily calculate how many 50kw cars, how many 75kw cars, how many 100kw cars, how many 400kw semis, how many power walls, etc.
      Production is all determined by the output of power in kw he can produce.

They're doing this because they can see what Mr. Musk is doing and they HAVE to develop too. Otherwise Tesla and some others like NIO (China), Rivian, and Xpeng will have the total market. Greatly improved full self driving software should be released in less than a month. Greatly, impressively improved.
      Shanghai turns in 5k production in March (they were close in Feb).
      Fremont production numbers increase.
      Berlin and Austin begin production and ramp faster than Shanghai did.
      T-semis start production.
      Cybertruck starts production.
      Tesla announces where the next round of factories will be constructed (new places or existing factory site expansions).
      Tesla announces new cell factories, either Tesla owned or partnered with large battery companies.
      Tesla shows a $25k EV prototype.
      I expect most, if not all, of those things this year. By the end of Q2 profits/cash flow should be so high that reg-credit FUD won't be a needle mover.

    Hi, Warren! It seems that no one ever considers that there are many (most?) Tesla FSD owners who will NOT want to loan their car out to the robo-taxi fleet full-time. Some will prefer to not do it out of cleanliness while reserving the right to use it for family and friends. Others will love having it simply because they can have THE OPTION to make money off of it occasionally. Your projections seem to only take into account that all FSD owners will being loaning it out for taxi full-time for $40K income. This affects your price prediction for it as well. Fewer people will want to pay such a high price for a feature that they might never make up the cost for. I think Elon said the feature would be "worth" about the price of a car, but that does not mean that he will actually sell it for that much. My guess is about $50K. Thanks for all your wonderful videos! Rock on!

    • @bobwallace9753
      @bobwallace9753 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's very highly likely that Tesla will start manufacturing EVs designed for robotaxi work very soon after completing work on FSD. It only makes sense.
      Sell a $25k EV and make a 20%, $5k profit or make a robotaxi for $20k and earn $30k per year for 10 years. Want $5k or $300k?
      Initially some portion of the private Tesla fleet will work as robotaxis. That will help Tesla build their service faster. Tesla may be able to start robotaxi services in 2023 By then they could have a few million privately owned EVs on the road. If only 10% of the owners wanted to earn robotaxi money that would mean 100,000 robotaxis per million Teslas in operation. A huge bootstrap.

      Tesla's answer. In approximately one year. They believe they have the basic problem solved. Now they need about a year to identify and solve for edge cases. There are strange intersections and other sorts of weird things rarely encountered. Tesla is going to turn over a million of their EVs loose looking for those edge cases and then their AI computer will work out solutions.
      Do they have the basic problem solved? No one outside of a few people at Tesla know for sure. The rest of us should know within a couple of months.

      That would be plenty range for the majority of cars. Even robotaxis. Most people rarely drive more than 200 miles in one day. And when they did they probably wouldn't object to charging while eating a meal if that made the car many thousands of dollars cheaper to purchase.
      Robotaxis don't need much range. 100,000 miles per year is about 275 miles per day. At 30 MPH average speed that's about 9 hours of driving time. That leaves 15 hours during the day to rotate in for a quick recharge. Figure a 10% to 80% charge takes 30 minutes. 20 miles to 160 miles = 140 miles added per charge. Two half hour charges is all that would be needed.

      Tesla's chip problems were apparently due to the Texas grid outage. Tesla seems to be much better at arranging for future needs than most other car companies.
      Tesla just opened a new factory in Shanghai that is manufacturing the hardware for Superchargers. Tesla intends to double the number of charge bays this year. And they already have a ton. Search "Supercharger" and look at the location maps for North America, Europe, and Asia. At this point I think Tesla has about 1,000 Supercharger sites with an average of about 9 bays per site.
      8% to 9% and you're nervous? I invested about 5% of my portfolio and Tesla is now about 50% of my holdings.
      I could sell some of that and move it somewhere else. But I don't know of another company that I think has the potential for growth that Tesla has. I'm spread over ARK funds for some diversity and still have a 'safety net' amount in index funds. But at this point Tesla could drop 75% and I'd still be better off than if I'd left all my money in index funds.

    Everybody is talking about the EV race . That is not gonna be the beginning and end factor of Tesla’s future stock values and profits. I think the battery packs they sell will make a significant impact on Tesla’s success. They will power everything at some point . Battery plants instead of power plants .

    We keep hearing about how economical it is to rely on public transportation or Robotaxis. You live in hurricane country. What happens when millions need to evacuate to Ga., Chicago, Missouri, etc. I live on the West coast bordering fire country. What would these people do with fire approaching town at 60 mph. This is a solution for city dwellers. Have you ever tried to find a U-Haul trailer in the summertime after the students have vacated for the summer?

    Are you talking about Tesla passenger cars or Tesla people haulers like taxis? The former have gone the Asian design route with speed influenced aerodynamic lines, seats that are semi reclining that don't allow an erect posture and limited headroom. In effect they are designed for young folks who really don't have to deal with luggage, hauling things, or creature comfort. The passenger car folks are wanting to zip places (fast usually) and look good. The people hauler group would prefer ease of entering and exiting, more interior room, more headroom, and a more erect sitting position. I think that the young folks would prefer a "Corvette like" design whereas the more mature folks would prefer a more "Checker Marathon like" design which would be more ideal for comfort and convenience features. Even the SUVs are downsizing ang getting smaller interiors it seems. I have owned 2 Checkers and now drive a Ford Windstar and really enjoy the spaciousness and comfort and could not move to a luxurious, design perfected, ergonomic design. They are not the same in respect to comfort and livability.
