      I am glad you enjoyed it. I have learned so much about what works and what dosn't with drones. Its a small miracle that I still have it in one piece! I feel I have been plagued with high winds, which is what results on shaky video footage at times.

      I spent a few weeks getting ob=ver some surgery so I have the first 5 episodes of Brindley's Birmingham Canal - end to end already scripted and ready for filming in September.

      I am glad it hit the spot. The whole drone led idea was something new which I enjoyed making.

    Nice one Andy my friends and I have walked most of this section of canal, it is great to see the ever advancing progress that is being made by the L&H Canal Restoration Trust, I had wondered which way the old route ran through the golf course at Darnford Lane, now I know, we also found the two old locks there, all very interesting.

    Great! - wonderful photography - a tribute to your-good-self and methinks modern technology as well.
    Doesn't "Birningham" look flat from the drone's height.....

      The tech in drones is amazing. I have been pushing that little drone beyond its limits especially in high winds which is where the slightly wobbly images come in. You should have seen the footage I left out - at times it was flipped over to 30 degrees from horizontal - and still it survived. I was a bit closer to those electricity pylons than I realised.....

    The restoration is a great concept but, as I think we've said before Andy...doubtful some of us will see it finished. A bit of research for you for the summer...how many bricks were used just in the BCN...all those locks and edging bricks along tow paths? 🙂 Great video as always. The drone stood up to the wind well. Thank you.

    • @lifeat2.3milesanhour57
      @lifeat2.3milesanhour57  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I cant even guess the millions involved - it was many million bricks for the Lapal and Netherton tunnels alone....

    hi Andy just a quick question do you by any chance have any old photographs of the Tamworth Cruising Club on the Coventry when it was a British Waterways coal yard

    • @lifeat2.3milesanhour57
      @lifeat2.3milesanhour57  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No - sorry. I have never done and research in that area. Britain from Above may give some intereresting overhead images.

    When you fly the drone do you do it from memory and by eye, or have you prepared a route plan at home and programmed it into the drone?
    If not, surprised you don't get lost...
    Great videos and keep up the good work.

    • @lifeat2.3milesanhour57
      @lifeat2.3milesanhour57  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I look for waymarks on the maps and fly it by eye which is more or less successful. I sometimes need to do a run twice.

      @@lifeat2.3milesanhour57 Respect for that. I would probably end up following the wrong hedge line or getting disorientated in the industrial estates where the canal has been built over. Though I suppose local knowledge will help a lot.

    I have a couple questions Andy... locks 29 and 30.. are they supposed to be restored?... also around the " pinch point" area coming through the new housing I noticed what looks like a BCN canal building.. if so will the canal restoration be passing through it with a lock? I really enjoyed this episode Andy.. thanks for sharing the information !. I hope you still may post some festivals along the canals this summer.. Cheers from Missouri USA buddy!

      @lifeat2.3milesanhour57  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Dennis - I am sure there will be several videos out and about this summer - starting with the canals connecting Edinburgh and Glasgow in a few weeks time. The "pinch point" is due to the realignment of the canal as most of the canal bed went under the bypass. The current set up has just enough room to squeeze through and then there is a "pool" where boats can be spun round a bit and onto the new line - a bit like a railway turntable. There is an old building just beyond the London Road Bridge backing onto Gallows Wharf but I din think its a canal structure. There was a big basin (St Johns) under the bypass. I think that the old lock just to the east of the pinch point still exists and is being at least partially used to lift the canal to the new section you saw in the video. Have a good summer.

      I just realised I didn't answer your question abut locks 29 and 30. 1st -I mis sited lock 29 in this video - its remains were in the clump of trees back up near the golf course and this wont be reused as the golf course section is to be lower down to get under Darnford Lane using the culvert you may have seen on the fly by. As for lock 30 - its perfectly reusable but the lock cottage is privately owned and I suspect the lock may need to be moved to get round this.

    • @LHCRT
      @LHCRT 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only BCN building is the canal cottage by old lock 24, I don't think there's one by the pinch point.

  • @peterfisher6348
    @peterfisher6348 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Locks lost in post production...
    Should have showed lock 28 before crossing under Darnford lane (according to the other 60 miles). You had already mentioned the new canal would join the old line below it, before the bridge ok. And that it should be lock 29 hiding in the trees not lock 28.

    • @lifeat2.3milesanhour57
      @lifeat2.3milesanhour57  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you know - you are right! I had to go back to my series three episode to check. For some reason I thought I remembered a second lock chamber above lock 30, but no. It is indeed 29 hiding in the trees and not 28.

    I wonder which will come first, HST2 or the Lichfield Canal?

    • @lifeat2.3milesanhour57
      @lifeat2.3milesanhour57  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HS2! The canal will rerouted to give headroom for a canal bridge and then it swings back to the area around lock 30.
