Women get whipped on Easter Monday, that's true but we do not "beg to get whipped". It's very old tradition but men actually come to the house where women live and those women have to get whipped (as you said, for fertility and health). It's painful and uncomfortable.

I feel like she could've handled it better, but Thomas seemed veeery possessive. She didn't show any signs of interest and after being bailed on the second time, he follows her into the show and does something like this. He really seems creepy to me. And he made salty tweets about her canceling on him, which is a huge red flag as well. Of course, she should've just said no, but I think Thomas went way further in regards of inappropriate behaviour. She should've just said "I'm sorry, but no" or sth instead of humiliating him like this, but I geuss she was under quite a bit of pressure.

Tajveer Kaur I'm from Slovakia, but it's the same here as in Czech Republic. It's a tradition and people used to do it years ago, but nowadays it's not that common. You can see that more in villages, but it's still not as often as it used to be.

Actually more common tradition on Easter in Slovakia is men throwing a bucket of cold water on women. And yeah, it is messed up, almost every woman hates it but we can't say anything because it's a tradition and all men love it... You don't want to go to Slovakia or to Czech Republic on easter if you're a woman.

Guys, the whole Easter tradition in the Czech Republic is not that nasty and brutal as they make it seem like. It is not literal whipping, to begin with - the guys only PAT you (especially your legs) with the Ester whip (pomlázka), which is braided from young willow rods as a normal braid you make with your hair and therefore it is supposed to make you be young, fresh and beautiful for the next year. As a reward, the boys get colorful ribbons on the top of their whip and the old tradition is, that they also get a painted egg as another gift from the ladies for making them young again. Today, the kids usually get chocolate eggs or other sweets and adults get a shot of alcohol.
It makes me so mad that people don't try to make research and make this lovely tradition look like abuse.

I'm a woman from Czech Republic and I'm here to clarify something. We don't beg anyone to get whipped. Most of us hate it but it's a tradition. The Easter whip is made of couple of sticks from willow. It's basically for staying healthy and beautiful for the next year. It's nothing sexual, really. And to the comment: ''Where we've got these people from?'', I thought the only ones who don't know the Geography were the Americans, guess I was wrong.
