I am a German guy and I kind of like traditional gender roles (only to a certain extent of course, not like "woman barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen" level). So, the paying question on a first date is actually a good indicator. If the girl seriously refuses to let me pay, it is clear that we have a different mindset as to gender roles and that we should better not start a serious relationship.
I 100% agree. As an American, I have been "conditioned" towards traditional gender roles more than most Western European women have been. There's a long history behind these differences, mostly dating back to the World Wars. American men came back from the world wars - and well, European men did not. When American men returned, it was strongly enforced that women were to return back to the home and the children. European women were needed in the workforce, at least for awhile. American soldiers, married and single, were often "plagued by beautiful foreign women" in all of our various foreign affairs - and the consequence was men brought venereal diseases home to their wives. The army tried to combat this problem by soliciting the wives' "help" - by saying "you had better stay attractive enough or else your husband will be tempted by these beautiful foreign women and bring home venereal diseases. It is your duty to America to stay beautiful and attractive so that your man will stay faithful to you when he is overseas." Although these are obviously no longer conscious thoughts of American girls today, this was the mentality that has permeated our culture over the last 100 years. I understand that some people will say that it's wrong to uphold these traditional gender roles. But to me, part of equality is having the CHOICE and the KNOWLEDGE and the UNDERSTANDING to make the decision for myself that I simply prefer traditional gender roles.

I pay for my own stuff nowadays, cause I already met guys who where really disappointed that paying for my drinks during the night didn't mean for us to have sex. Also I hear alot of women talking passionatly about being treated as an equal, but when it comes to paying they expect the man to pay for dinner, buy expensive gifts,... The thought of somebody "buying" me like an object disgusts me. On the other hand if he wants to genuinly pay for it if he likes you and isn't expecting any sexual response in return it is ok for me. It is easy to spot the difference though, you do you.
Thanks for watching.😊 Like you said it's easy to spot the difference between those who genuinely wanna pay and those who have expectations. In the end every woman will do what she is comfortable with.
My German husband says if you buy for the woman then she might feel obligated to you, best to to treat like an acquaintance which a date is which means paying for yourself in Germany. Dating is very casual and informal here, it’s basically hanging out to see if you like each other as friends or more
It would have been nice to hear also the views/perspectives from a black girl. Latinas and black girls are considered exotic here so having more of a discussion instead of a interview format would also be cool. Love the Video thou🙂👍🏽

As a guy in Germany you HAVE to offer to pay the whole bill at the end of a date with dinner, for example. You have to offer it...and then the women quickly say to the waiter: No, split the bill, please. So you have to offer it and then the women (mostly) say quickly: No split the bill. That is like a ritual and it happens nearly every time. At least to me. It is very rare that the women are accepting it that the man is paying everything. But again: As a man you have to offer it and you have to tell the waiter, that you are paying. I dated many women in the past and there were only a few times, where I really had to pay everything. In fact I remember only one time paying everything and she came from an Arabic background. All other women were "bio"-Germans and they want to demonstrate their independence and the fact, that one can't "buy" them with a dinner. I respect that...and I never felt bad about it. Quite the opposite, because it isn't meant as a rejection (at least most of the time) and I save the money. :-)
@@miasanarsenal9950 Only the women really care about that subject. It is like a fetish for them for many different reasons. No matter if they are traditional, regular or "Girl-Power"-women. Whatever makes the girls happy... 😄🙄 It only was very unusual, that the Arab girl didn't "played the German game" and therefore I remember it.

What happen to German man? I'm German, was raised by my German mother. I never had an experiment like she is talking about. I lived in Germany for 24 years. Not once did I have to pay half of my dinner or the next drink. If a man invites me to dinner, then he pays for it. If I would invite a man, then I would pay for it. But that never happen to me. In my experience, German man are hard to talk to. That's why I married an American. They are fun to be with and always paid for everything. It never occurred to them to ask a women to pay half. If that was the case, I would not go out with him again. He asked me, not the other way around. He bought me 24 roses on a date. But then my German upbringing kicked in. I asked him why he got me flowers. Told him the will be dead in a few days. From then on he bought me other things. One or twice he got me a watch. After that a friendship ring, etc. It went all the way up to a wedding ring. I had a very good marriage with him. But then he got very ill and died. I still miss him 14 years later and I stayed true to him. I will till my time comes. I loved him so much and still do.
He was a lucky man. I grew up in the southeast US and it never occurred to me that a woman I asked out should pay. Even if she asked me simply by saying yes in my mind I would still pay. The girls are a product of a broken narrative. Sad. Have a good day

So this open relationship phenomenon is more widely practised that i thought. Well to each his own. As long as the 2 parties are equally aware and informed and are in agreement.
2:31 spot on. Granted, there are a lot of creeps, and typically, if a guy is handsome he can get away with it, but a lot of other guys feel like they are called a creep because of the notion that is even very hip in movies etc of woman being as good and powerful as men if not better
Omg i am already Fascinated by his woman such a knowledge she has. I live and work in Berlin for quite few months now but haven’t came across such a fantastic personality.
Call me old fashioned, but if a man asked me out, I expect him to pay for our first meal. Obviously I will still take out my card, and if he doesn’t offer to pay for the whole bill, I will pay my part. That way, I leave with a clean conscience and when I cut him off later, I feel no guilt. That’s just me tho.
As an American woman, I've had so many conversations about this topic of paying for the first date with Germans. Although it is changing to some degree, for the most part, in America, it is widely expected that the man pays for the first date. It is considered extremely offensive and rude to suggest that the woman pay half. Now, I've heard from numerous Germans about this, who find this abhorrent. They find this behavior from American women selfish, greedy, and gold-digging. But really, I think it comes down to a wide difference in cultural standards. An American woman is often expected to put a major investment (both in time and money) into a first date. Depending on the date, she could easily spend $200 on new makeup and clothes and over 4 hours getting ready for the date. I know that probably sounds excessive (and perhaps it is), but that is also the cultural expectation held by a lot of Americans. Although this does occur in Germany, this seems to be rare. It seems to be the norm that women simply wear something they already own, use makeup they already own (if they wear makeup at all), take a quick shower, wear their hair naturally, and go out with a very natural look. If German men and German women are investing an equal amount of time and money into the pre-date process, then it's fair to pay 50/50. But if there's an expectation set that one person is supposed to look in some way that costs an excessive amount of time and money, then it's fair for the other member to pay for the cost of the date. In America, it's very common for men to show up to the date in gym shorts and a dirty t-shirt, having not showered after the gym, messy hair, while simultaneously expecting the woman to have manicured nails, a pedicure with no chips, highlights in her hair, makeup that is classy but not trashy, a nice outfit that shows off her goods without looking slutty, classy accessories. In these situations, why should the woman also pay half?
That is actually true. Obviously, a german doesn’t force a woman to do all that chic stuff, but let’s be honest, none of them would say no to a good looking lady and everyone would definitely pick her over a mediocre one. Women spend so much time and money for their looks, whereas men don’t. So if we’re talking about equal contribution, it would be fair for them to take care of that cup of coffee.
I'm American and I disagree; a woman from a first-world country should at least offer to pay. In fact I have dated many German and Austrian men and I have always offered/tried to pay but they really appreciate the offer. It's not unreasonable for a guy to expect us to split the bill because we are just getting to know one another. Also, I am from Southern California where there is A LOT of competition. The average girl going to the gym has her hair done, make up and nice clothes. Maybe in Ohio or Kentucky it be a big deal to dress up but the standard of what you wear when seeing a guy is high. Obviously, it's easier to date pretty anywhere else on the planet away from LA but you girls in these other states are really spoiled.
@@heatherfeather9951 Im sorry but calling women spoiled for not wanting to pay half is dumb. I dont call you desperate for wanting to pay half. It is to each their own really. At the end of the day some women want to be courted and taken care off and would rather not pay. Other women want to have a 50/50 relationship (which does not exist in my opinion) and pay the other half. Both are fine and each women is allowed to choose what they want without being shamed. I have never been on a date where I paid half. How are you going to ask me out and then let me pay half? Thats crazy to me😂 I even sometimes pay for my friends when I ask them out to eat so with me personally that could not fly. But again, to each their own.
@@msgirly6827 Anyone can demand whatever they want/expect from a man but that doesn't mean they will get it. Similarly, just proclaiming oneself to be a "queen" or a "goddess" doesn't make it so. If there are guys who want to spoil you as you feel entitled to be spoiled then so be it. I believe that equal privilege means equal responsibility. I don't see paying my own way as a problem because I expect to be treated as an equal, and most Western European men have no problem with this. Also, if you're not in the top ten percent of looks wise (I'm not claiming to be myself) you really can't be that demanding. Women who are not trying to look feminine cannot expect to be accorded traditional female benefits (ie having a man treat them). You don't have a profile picture or any videos for which to show your feminine charms.

I recently moved to Munich (from London) and found that living 12 years in London I got approached maybe 5 times during that whole time. In Germany it's just so much easier to strike up a conversation as the pressure is just not as high. In London if a guy would approach he would be so obvious about it with explicit words. While in Germany they would just have a convo, very easy going, unless they would just want to have some fun then they would be more forward.

Okay I’ve subscribed and liked even before finishing the video . Now give me the tea because Germany is on my list of European countries to move to ! Lol 😘
Well, germans have no game to begin with, everyone knows that. We suck at flirting compared to other Europeans. We don't have a dating culture, men are shy here and just don't know what to do. In Germany we go out, drink liquid courage and hook up. Berlin is even more extreme when it comes to dating compared to the rest of Germany. People here are less open and friendly, more reserved. Cologne for example is the polar opposite. You will get approached and make friends so easily.
@@veeran_official At the moment with the pandemic, it will be hard to meet new people and date, I have to say. For now online dating via OKCupid or Bumble will do. Stay away from Tinder. Only creeps are on Tinder in Berlin, for real. As soon as life goes back to somewhat normal it will be easier to meet people. But you will mostly meet them when you go out. Berlin has a rich club culture, it used to at least pre pandemic and it's easier to meet new people at clubs or open airs and festivals. And thru those new people you will meet in your social life, you will meet people to date. I have two tipps for you for meeting new people: Stabi, Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin, thats the library all students eventually hang out to study, is a great place to meet people during daytime, might sound odd, but it's 100% true! Also Hotel Bar in Kreuzberg, is a small and cosy bar, where you will meet people easily. A lot of expats and germans hang out there and are very flirty!
@@veeran_official Kinda, we are sow to warm up to people, that is true, but once we do, we will be in it for life. I hope you are going to have the best time in Berlin once it's all opened up again!
@Nidhi Roy Why would I or Germans in general be worried? Quite the odd question. Marriage hasn’t been a thing since Gen X, nobody cares about marriage around here, because it is not necessary. It's not specific to Berlin, it's everywhere in germany ... germans don't approach in everyday life. Why??? This flirting culture just doesn't exist. Women tend to be very defensive, not open, and even if they give you their number most likely (90%ish of the time, probably even higher than 90%) nothing is going to happen. It doesn't matter what happened beforehand how much time you had with her etc. Men also have to be careful with touch. For some women touching their shoulders seems to be the equivalent to touching their breasts. Also approaching is very frightning (even for men). Just imagine (if you are a girl) you see a good looking man and you approach him, you would probably be nervous, your legs might shake (especially if it is your first time). German girls also don't give (m)any clues. She might be interested in you but looking at her face you don't see any of it. Dating apps are common for people to meet???? No girl, it's maybe for you common but not for men. We men have a tough time on dating apps, check out the video of Alexander Grace tinder experiment and you get an idea of how difficult it is for most men.
You're saying the flirting culture doesn't exist because of the german women mentality right? But if you know the girl in front of you is not german (Asian/African...) then you know that you can try to approach her because she won't be offended right? So german men should take this into perspective.

One thing tho, its 2020, and like Estefania said, Berlin is keen in womanpower. So about the dating apps, she's using them because men don't ask her out. In the video, it seems like it doesn't even cross her mind, she could actually do that.

@@dagda3000 Yes, I’m aware of it and I appreciate it. But that shouldn’t mean cheap people. Kindness and generosity could live together. Yes I agree. Those cities might be different. I lived one year in Hamburg but was busy to date enough :p
Dating is very casual and informal here, it’s basically hanging out to see if you like each other as friends or more
Exactly! You described it pretty accurately.
It would have been nice to hear also the views/perspectives from a black girl. Latinas and black girls are considered exotic here so having more of a discussion instead of a interview format would also be cool. Love the Video thou🙂👍🏽

Berlin is very different from the rest of Germany. Please keep that in mind!
Is it really ? 🤔
So was it a turn off that the Arab girl let you pay? or it didn't bother you?
@@miasanarsenal9950
Only the women really care about that subject. It is like a fetish for them for many different reasons. No matter if they are traditional, regular or "Girl-Power"-women.
I never cared. I give a damn about the fact that I have to pay or not to pay. I really don't care. Whatever makes the girls happy... 😄🙄
It only was very unusual, that the Arab girl didn't "played the German game" and therefore I remember it.

Sad. Have a good day
Listen sister, this the most beautiful thing ive read all day. I'm glad you found something so special, true love by the looks of it. And you refuse to share that intimacy with anyone else? Respect, respect 200%.
@@awesomebearsWhy do you respect that she chooses not to date other men? Would you disrespect her if she didn't?
When a woman dies, men are back on the horse of dating as soon as possible. Their "grieving" consists of finding another woman to look after them.

Dating is difficult in big cities because of the pressure of work. In Dubai, it's very difficult getting a decent partner, 90% are either wants an open relationship or a one night stand. Great content 👍
So this open relationship phenomenon is more widely practised that i thought. Well to each his own. As long as the 2 parties are equally aware and informed and are in agreement.
Hi guys am visiting Berlin this weekend
2:31 spot on. Granted, there are a lot of creeps, and typically, if a guy is handsome he can get away with it, but a lot of other guys feel like they are called a creep because of the notion that is even very hip in movies etc of woman being as good and powerful as men if not better
Omg i am already Fascinated by his woman such a knowledge she has. I live and work in Berlin for quite few months now but haven’t came across such a fantastic personality.
استحي على ويهك
@@heatherfeather9951 I am confused as to what the intention of the last part of your comment means. Care to explain? I am little confused because indeed I dont have a profile picture and videos but what does that have to do with anything?

I recently moved to Munich (from London) and found that living 12 years in London I got approached maybe 5 times during that whole time. In Germany it's just so much easier to strike up a conversation as the pressure is just not as high. In London if a guy would approach he would be so obvious about it with explicit words. While in Germany they would just have a convo, very easy going, unless they would just want to have some fun then they would be more forward.

You have dated German guys?
And as for the club scene, germans will approach you in the club and other expats even more. You will see. It will work! I hope you are going to have the best time in Berlin once it's all opened up again!
@Nidhi Roy Why would I or Germans in general be worried? Quite the odd question. Marriage hasn’t been a thing since Gen X, nobody cares about marriage around here, because it is not necessary. It’s literally an antiquated tradition. People still reproduce without marriage. Also, planet earth is overpopulated and surely doesn’t need more Germans.
@Nidhi Roy Who cares. You don’t have a clue and sound nationalistic.

So glad I’m gay….
Why would you even touch a stranger?

One thing tho, its 2020, and like Estefania said, Berlin is keen in womanpower. So about the dating apps, she's using them because men don't ask her out. Is it their responsibility to initiate cause they are men? If she sees a guy whom she thinks is cute, why doesn't she ask him out?
In the video, it seems like it doesn't even cross her mind, she could actually do that.
I'm glad you liked the video. 😊 As for approaching guys, I believe Estefania would if she did find the guy interesting. However, some women just enjoy being approached. To each her own.

They don´t want to be offensive or even nice to unkown women, some even don´t want to work with women because of that.
Part of an outcome of feminism in my opinion.
I always see groups of girls and boys going out seperated.
And I know many young guys which don´t want a girlfriend, because they are to demanding.
Young woman behave like princesses, everyone thinks she is sooo special and she deserves to be treated as such, it is horrible.
I know football teams where not one is having a girlfriend.
Young women of today in Germany screw it up and then accuse the men that it´s their fault, because it couldn´t be their own fault, because they are so fantastic.
Yes but there's many nationalities in Germany, the easiest thing to do is to be in a r.s with a foreigner which is not that hard considering the amount of foreigners in the country.
Was laberst du? Sei lieber froh, dass der Sexismus hier abnimmt und Frauen die gleiche Behandlung erfahren wie Männer
You seem scared of women? 🤔
@@yamatonadeshiko567 Do you think you are special?
I LOVE YOU
As a man I would never pay everything at a first date. That would be disrespectful.
I've had tinder gold for months and get like 1 or 2 likes a month and their all bots.... Fml 🤦🏼♀️ here’s my tlegram @Annapeggy any aged responsible man here wanna talk?
Disrespectful ?! You know what is direspectful, when I spend 2 hours for hair removal, nails, hairbrushing, make up before a date (because a man expect a pretty woman, wich is normal), and then I am still expected to pay.
@@sweettagada22 nope. You are not expected to put on makeup. I've had quite some dates (mostly through internetapps). And not a single woman did anything.
Of COURSE you are expected to pay half. You are not a child anymore, are you? An adult pays for himself
@@fischersfritz468 what a cultural choc (I’m French). I dress well and put on make up for dates. And the kind of men I date they expect such an elegant woman.
Paying for someone doesn’t mean she can’t do it or that she’s a child. It’s just showing respect, showing you are interested in her, that you can treat her right after. Also I would add women earn less money than men and that they have do spend more money per month (periods, bras, pills, clothes, haircut, hair removal, nails) so that is for the rational aspects. The irrational aspect is just about seduction, you need to show you are a real man
@@sweettagada22 no. A woman needs to show me, that she is a real, independant woman. Not a golddigger. Not offering to pay half would be very disrespectful from her.
Nails, hair, makeup, clothes... not needed. Ok, better: some clean clothes are enough. Everything else is unnecessary. She can do it if she wants, but no one really cares.
Btw: Depending on where you live, woman don't earn less anymore.
Ah yes: I'm swiss. Half french half swiss, but i grew up in the german speaking part of Switzerland

OMG. What are you talking about? (I'm German by the way). Why is only the one girl talking and talking and talking and talking? It's also very weird to listen to: Germans think like this, Germans think like that, coming from a girl from Ecuador. I was just shaking my head listening and really wished the other girl had said something as well.
You do realize this was the format of the video, the black girl is presenting the topic by discussing this from the viewpoint of the guest.
OMG what the hell are you talking about!! When I first read your comment, I thought it's going somewhere interesting. But you're complaining about the video format!!! Seriously!!!
