    In the wind id argue only pegging out the windward end and then putting the poles in. This keeps the fabric flat on the ground and safe from the wind until you are ready. Pegging out both ends results in what happened at the beginning of your video. I'd also add that the way ive been taught to remove the pole quickest and safest is to hold the end against your chest/stomach area and just pull the sleeves up until the pole is free. The opposite for initially threading the pole - feed the pole all way until it reaches the socket, then position the socket and pole so that it is pushing against the ground rathwr than to the side (can slip out then), then unravel the fabric and secure. Bit hard to explain by writing but its a good method.

      @TonyHobbs  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'd like to see that method. Yeah I'd agree re pegging front too. I've heard just back then poles them pull up to fix like I did with nammajt 2 last video or five.... what i find confusing is Hilleberg video and instructions say peg front out (unless I'm mistaken) and must admit it isn't ideal and bit fiddly. Great comment that's what we love here good helpful comments to live and learn by thanks (not quite get the tummy thing - and my way works reasonably well in dropping tent quickly and safely - but all ideas thoughts welcome and for a million percent you and other proper regular users will users will have more experience) which is why its great more experienced folks watch my videos

    You’ve already made it to Dartmoor in it! I’m just at the pitching stage and it is impressive that 1 person can put this up by themselves. Our geodesic DofE tents are really difficult to do by yourself. Possible but the students certainly can’t do it. Looking forward to seeing inside

    • @TonyHobbs
      @TonyHobbs  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes one person is fine with this
      In freezing snow storm two might be helpful lol but one can generally manage in most conditions.
      It's a beauty
      I looked at Saitaris and thankfully made correct decision with this for simplicity and space it seems
      Good luck with yours

    I love your enthusiasm Tony! What are you going to do with all that space? Or dare we not ask? 😊. What a great project, and Lapland is a bit of a leap from Dartmoor. I'm hoping to do a similar trip but on snowshoes not skiing, as on skis I'm a liability to myself and anyone around me. I'll be using my red Akto for that.
    Have you seen Matti & Stina's TH-cam channel? If not, I think you'll like it?
    Good luck!

      I'll see is a going lady polar bear 🐻‍❄️ 😆 wants some cuddles as the sheep 🐑 😄 getting a bit predictable now 😆
      I've given a sub to matti so will watch one or two indeed I see one on ski's snow shoes that looks interesting. My concern is your thoughts 😆 but I'll try ski's and see how it goes. MSR were kind enough to send me snow shoes but so far no snow .... I did a livestream on here with Antonio of Always Forward channel I hope to meet him if he's available next April 2025 in abisko Sweden and one or two others have offered to allow me to join them but let's see and take it steady 😀 I'm in no rush and zero pressure if anything happens it does ... thanks for your continued support watching

    This tent is very similar design to my Abisko Endurance 4 which from memory is slightly bigger than this. I had the family in it on the top of kinder and it took the wind no problem so I am sure this will also be bomber. Love the vids.

      Tony... as stated earlier on... the Keron 4GT is not Hilleberg's flagship by chance... it is by far the best you can get on the market. The Saitaris cannot compete with it as its porches are much smaller in terms of effectively usable space. Likewise, it is much easier to errect it, notably if to be managed without any helping hand. Best purchase you have ever made, I reckon.

    Hello Tony.
    I haven't been commenting on your videos for a long time.
    This is surprising.....You in an even heavier tent then Nammatj 3GT???
    But i have to say, that it looks amazing. two meters wide and five meters long..... holy s#*t, that's ten square metres, pitching area, 107 sq feet.
    Izzy.....Lizzy..... Do you have a new dog? (sorry it was a long time ago...)
    Good video Tony, thank you for the upload.

      Yeah it's nammajt 3gt big brother 😆 I'll keep that but this is in different league 😆 hopefully get on skis and pull this in pulk one day
      Lizzy was my wife's but sadly her mental health was too much to live with so I had to let her go to her family unfortunately and had to keep lizzy as she was too much for my wife. Lizzy did a few trips last year with me then mum looked after over winter or big trips but simple easy ish trips lizzy should be ok on 😀 hope you're well

    Oh my, somebody has a Kerlon addiction. Are you still on Ron's Christmas card list? K4GT is bomber and as you said ridiculously massive. Now I understand your motivation to be able to sleep facing the open door. In the conditions this tent is built for, there might not be much of a view. Nuff said. Love my HBs. I don't want to send you down a rabbit hole but in the 90s HB sold a couple of models that were the precursor to the Keron, 2m wide, but shorter, that could fit 2 people. If memory serves me correctly the Stalon 2 was a modular tent allowing side sleeping to the door, and owners could zip in extras such as the GT vestibule. But it was about the same weight as the K4 / K4GT so they dropped the modular concept about 25 years or so ago

    • @TonyHobbs
      @TonyHobbs  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just back from dartmoor with it
      Whilst not hurricane it was pretty blustery and unpleasant and wet and it didn't bat an eye lid indeed it probably fell asleep lol 😆
      Yeah a side sleeping teo person strong tent with proper vestibule would be nice . Closest is niak but yellow label (?) Or unna with not much porch although Messner seems to get a porch out of it. The width is 2m so plenty side sleeping but truth told as you say in the weather its for you'd see nothing and be zipped up and foot head better front back as longer 2.2m and vertical walls so for Expedition use front back the way and keeps foot end away.
      Ron will probably get more business lol its the hobbs marketing strategy use something else draw in more punters and they nose channel and see other stuff like MLD and bobs your uncle 😉 another sale 😆
      This heavy stuff nice as a treat and for certain applications but MLD still rules 😉 thanks Stuart great to see you here Hope you're well

    Tony Hobbs!!!! What are you like?!?!? My good friend, they have to be pegged how Hilleberg have designed and instructed for them to be pulled out. If it’s pulling in any direction other than directly away from the sidewalls, referencing the guylines, the. You will lose its cylindrical structural integrity. Like squeezing a can in so it’s folding in, once under pressure it will collapse. You she to truth that Hilleberg the world famous arguable best tent maker bar none, knows a bit better than you or I, and have already done the research, for which way to guy the tent out. Also, if it breaks and they hear you don’t follow instructions you may have a very hard time using the warranty/guarantee to replace it. Thoroughly enjoyed the vid. The usual Hobbs rebel! Hahahaha! Keep up the great work.

      @TonyHobbs  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You referencing the guys on mid poles? Yeah I saw they say 90 degrees in side wind but don't say in rear wind so my way seems better lol for side wind repeg to 90 degrees. I'm the expert not Bo who's done it 50 years lol the guy knows nothing 😅 😉 is that what you mean though or am I wrong 🤔
