    One of the greats! He doesn't feel the need to be out front taking over the show. Amazing really, here's a guy that can fill stadiums and he's happy to stand in the back and enjoy himself. A regular guy.

    This is where Joe B. is at his best IMO. The small clubs and bar gigs are some of his best performances. Feeling the funk!

      I saw Joe B. about a year ago or so and, being a guitarist for 50 years and having seen many others in my time, let’s say he didn’t disappoint. My son, who’s a touring bassist, said it was his best concert ever. He hung his hat on his blazing solos and I got stuck with learning music in the back with the hacks. I wonder if "the kid" 1)sold or 2)never touched again the LP and amp. Joe is the kinda guy you can sit and have a beer with. After the beer though I want to go to his place (guitar emporium of the US) and die ‘cause it don’t get betta dan dat!

    Not even using his own gear but somebody elses from what I can tell. He's got that unique skill of always being heard in a mix (heard Lukather and Satriani next to him e.g. and they just disappeared in the mix). It's a combo of how he plays the chops - quick up to the point where they're still distinct and audible but not faster than that, and the sound that cuts without being piercing. So impressive to just use the amp and the guitar volume and nothing else.

    I met Joe about 8 year or more, he was traveling alone going from small festivals to the next small bar.he was traveling in an old station wagon pulling a small trailer. Joe was playing at Court Street Grill in Pomroy , Ohio. I helped him carry and set up his equipment, hung around and had a couple drinks. Knowledge of the blues was very impressive and his drive and enthusiasm to be No. 1 left no questions. Then he played, and played him to get the parts heart out for the small crowd. I attended his concerts from Huntington, Wva to Columbus , Ohio and watch the crowd grow.

    For anyone wanting to know how to add other notes to your Minor Pentatonic soloing over Blues Changes: (The guitar is tuned to Em Pentatonic EADGBE or EGABDE. If you can play in E, then just move everything to other frets for other keys.)
    1) Make sure you can play the E Minor Pentatonic scale in all 5 of the CAGED positions.
    2: Add in b5 for the Blues Scale.
    3: Add in 2 and 6 from Dorian.
    4: Add in the Major 3rd from Mixolydian. So now you are using Mixolydian with b3 and b5, two of the three Blues notes added in, along with b7 that was already there. Remember to go from b3 to 3, resolving upwards to a chord tone and not downwards.
    5: Now there are only 3 notes left before you can use every single note in the Chromatic scale, b2/#5/7.
    These are truly “outside” notes, so use each of these 3 notes as Chromatic passing tones that resolve to chord tones. Here are some examples: play b7-7-1, 6-#5-5, b7-2-b2-1.
    6: The most important notes to target in each position are 3-7 known as “guide tones” (the tritone) because they most define that Doninant 7th chord sound. Equally important, of course, is knowing where the root, 1 of the chord, is in each of the 5 CAGED positions.
    - - - That is how to be able to play every single note, all over the neck, over a Blues.
    Next step? Jazz!

    My 1st guitar was A Hondo 3. A black Les Paul replica just like the actual Gibson Joe has there......well. kinda......obviously....LOL....I have been a closet musician my entire life....I am 50 and have been fortunate to have seen everyone from Elvis to Iron Maiden. Yes, my LOVE of music has caused me to have a broad range of likes. I only recently, about 6 months ago discovered Joe....wow. What a talent. Does this little group of spectators realize how lucky they were that night?? Joe is up there with ALL the greats in my book....The guitar is a part of him. There are just some that are in that "different" category. EVH....SRV....JH....JP.....EC...DG......too many in my list but, for sure JB is on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      @carlwilliams6977 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DaveDexterMusic That's a really stupid comment! The OP's statement applies to athletes as well. A world class tennis player is going to outplay me (and that's putting it nicely!), with any racket you hand him. You wouldn't expect a world-class athlete or musician to choose to play on s*** gear! Why? Because they would have to work harder and be at a disadvantage with their peers. More to the point: BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE TO! Then there's the issue of sponsorships. Bonamassa has manufacturers making guitars with his name on them!
      Amateurs should spend more time working on their skills, and less time worrying about getting the latest, greatest gear.

    • @modestoney1577
      @modestoney1577 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      i agree that gear is not as important as some might thing, and skill/talent/practice is way more important -
      that said an Orville By Gibson is a high end guitar made in Japan to Gibson specs, and the amp he plays here surely is not a potato

    • @lukathelight777
      @lukathelight777 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great musicians love great gear, but don’t need great gear to be great. All they need is the confidence and understanding that they are doing what they love to do no matter what resources they are given 🙌🏻👽

      Yep it is. Don't know if you checked the head stock. It is an Orville. It is a made in Japan Les Paul copy (granted made for Gibson) to combat the Made in Japan (MIJ) copies.
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orville_by_Gibson
      I have a Burny version from 1992 LP Custom with the Japan version of the original PAF style pickups (VH1's) and they are awesome. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burny
      Indeed Joe Bonamassa spoke about how only the old style pickups from Gibson gave a tone he liked.

Extremely sensual performance is the best imo! And even I think this is a replica of Gibson, but the sound is excellent, the best. This is how it happens. Joe often mentions how much he enjoys "just being in the band". Never more evident than on the Rock Candy Funk Party at the Iridium vid. Awesome 70's inspired disco grooves, funkzilla! For those who'd like to know.
