I've owned this knife for a year now and it is worth every bit of the 15$ I paid for it! I've whittled so much wood with it and only need to strop it to keep the blade in tip top. Great for a whittler as well as edc. I use it more than my fixed blade when in the woods. Greetings from Dallas,Tx. USA

I refuse to pay much more than $20 for any knife I’d carry/use. When I crave a new traditional style knife, i usually go to the Rough Ryders. When I’m home I always pick up a couple for Christmas at Smokey Mountain Knife Works, and I like to have several to compare side by side to check fitment/appearance. Walked out yesterday with the black G10 trapper in carbon steel (sharpest new knife next to an opinel I’ve ever bought in a slip joint!) and a small jig bone whittler. Looked at this one as well. Now you’ve talked me into going back!

I just got one of those. Sweet knife. Extreme Wharncliffe! I like the beefy handle. I think there’s a version of the pattern coming out soon in the classic cinnamon series, so bone handles and no big R, and that’ll be even better.

It is a excellent all-around knife mine came with a bent pin blade but for $16 oh well I love it I wanted the big worn Cliff blade anyway. I have carved spoons with all my knives I have the proper carving tools but I love carving with these Old Slip joints! Carbon blades were about all I owned when I was a kid'60s early '70s. Lost most of them Grandpa gave me now I'm collecting so my grandkid can lose them! Case Rough Rider all kinds of brands. There seems to be a small flaw with every Rough Rider i get. Tiny flaw but always something, but then again $16 knives and they're perfect at that price! I received the classic carbon seahorse whittler and the classic carbon sowbelly. I have carved pieces that I sell with both of them. When carving wood , and sharpened at the same degree 20, in my case. The seahorse whittler wharncliffe blade. Spelled it right that time. Did not carve near as well as the sheepsfoot on the sowbelly. I think it is a thickness difference and I carve in cured maple. I think it is a great all around knife and you can get in places with that little tip carving, it has its purpose. The pin blades, will hardly ever get opened. Anyway I digress great video thank you sir, i will stay tuned. This old hillbilly out!👍👍🤠🤠🎯🎯

I haven’t seen other knives with a split back-spring but they seem to have done it well. I guess very suitable for whittling as it adds some swell towards the end for a good grip and double the pen blades =double the amount of time whittling with a sharp blade. Nice review as always George.

It was also known as a Split back whittler as the main blade runs on 2 springs, hence Spilt back or split spring. Love the pewter shield on the CC2 Knives another nice touch.

George I subscribe greetings from uk brother I has exactly same knife I carve alot mainly spoons wood spirits and irish shillaglahs fighting sticks but our knife here's a tip stick blade in a lemon it will force a patina on it and protects blades from rust to a degree I modified tips on 2 small blades to a sheepfoot too remember to dip in water when grinding a blade so you dont burn temper out blade 🇺🇲👍🇬🇧🐾🦊

@@2ndchancegeorge Your welcome - if you search “Buck 110 or 112 Drop Point” they will show up. Buck and a few vendors have them. A little pricey buy they are made in the USA of high quality. Might find one used a bit cheaper.
      Enjoy the search !.

I didn't hear you mention what it is about the design that makes it a "whittler". For those who don't know, the large middle blade operates off of 2 back springs, while the 2 smaller blades fit in on either side of the main blade, each of which operates on a single spring. This allows for all 3 blades to be set straight in the handle. It's the only style of 3 bladed knife that does.

when i see such a short Wharncliffe blade like that, i always call it a "whittler" style blade, simply because ive only seen them that short and rounded on whittling knives, never on a normal pocket knife

I just received one from Heinnie Haynes in the UK and had high hopes based on multiple reviews but I'm really disappointed with how bad it is. The Wharncliffe blade might be usable once sharpened but the two pen blades are both so loose that I wouldn't attempt whittling with them. One of the pen blades has so much sideways play that the main blade strikes it or even wedges down the wrong side of it unless I take care to move it out of the way first. I'm waiting for a response from Heinnie Haynes and hopefully they'll exchange it for another that they actually check before shipping. I might have to make a video review first just because it's so bad it's almost funny.

It's not a jack knife. A jack knife has a hinge only at one end. A pen knife has it at both. So it's technically a sway back pen.
