That was phenomenal, I know it might sound kind of silly, but I was really on the edge of my seat, just completely tuned into the video kind of thinking to myself "THIS MAN CAN DO ANYTHING!" as I was staring in awe trying to soak up the knowledge.
Great. Thanks for the video. I have made replacement plastics just using high quality bright white inkjet paper and gluing to the back side of the polycarbonate. The white paper gives the same effect as the white background layer as the original screen printed plastics. Once installed in a game no one notices the difference, especially for games where there are no original or reproduction plastics available. Of course this decal method is very good as well.
Awesome! Yeah I could see that working quite well on the playfield. I had a really really worn Funhouse machine quite some years back that I had to painstakingly repaint. eeesh! Wish I had kept it, those things go for a grip these days.
Thank man. Yeah if you have a scroll saw or a tool for cutting plastic already, you can get the stuff to make an entire set of plastics, for typically less than it would cost to replace the sling shots.
To reproduce a missing right side slingshot plastic on a Gottlieb's Target Pool, I copied the left one on a copier, reversed the image, and used acrylic clear to glue together. Even though it's paper, and not the correct image, nobody but an expert would ever know the difference, and it would probably fool a few of THEM. This was 25 years ago when I didn't have a computer, I was all on my own. I didn't know about clear plastic sheets or I would have used them.
Joe Miller the water slide decal really has a sort of adhesive on the one side, so theres no way that you could slide it off and have it stick since youre really printing to the non adhesive side. Of course if you wanted your graphics on top of the plastic, as opposed to the under side, I suppose you could do it that way.
Suggestions on source of the polycarbonate? 0.060 inch thickness? I have seen some people spray paint the bottom white, but your suggestion of a white decal insures a consistent layer. Great job on the video editing and the voice over.
I have a plastics specialty shop here near my house, but Home Depot or other hardware stores often carry sheets of different thickness. You might also try hobby lobby or other craft stores. Thanks :)
***** Thanks for the quick response. I live in a mostly rural area and do not have a Hobby Lobby or craft store nearby. My nearby Lowes does not carry it. So I ordered off of Amazon. The 8 pack seems to be a good deal. I got the 0.060 inch thickness. I will be doing my first project in the coming weeks. www.amazon.com/Lexan-Sheet-Polycarbonate-Thick-Nominal/dp/B0051X1GVI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1424127752&sr=8-1&keywords=1%2F16%22++polycarbonate

swampwiz If you get a laser printer, the laser decals do not need to be sealed before you apply them from what I understand. So if I were going to be doing this again, I would source a laser printer.
Hello, I want to help a friend of mine (who doesn't speak English) to find all of this things out, he got a few pinball machines with many broken plastic in them. I was trying to find where could we get the printable design in vector format. Any idea? Thank you
Great video, any ideas of places to source the original decals from? Looking to restore the plastics on the Zaccaria pinball Moon Flight, only issue ours is missing all but one of the original plastics! The only other thing I could think of was trying to use some from a virtual table, the issue is the image quality is nowhere near!
I happened to ha e the originals, but if you go check out visual pinball, many of the new tables have very hi res scans of the plastics in the included files.
5 years later and I definitely need to get going at this, someone has sent me some scans off their pinball, I noticed the visual pinball and zaccarias app ones were incorrect in comparison to the actual pinball
Can you do a pair o jackbot plastics? I got the scans...that would be great, I think from pinball fans there would be a huge requests ot these repros 👌
Thank you for the clear and concise explanation of your process! Much appreciated!!
Really nice. I am doing this, soon.
Nice work, just the info I needed!

I have been looking for a long time for something like this. I have some pinball machines with broken plastics... but not for long!
David Lee heck yeah! link me to the results. A lot of people have had great results over on the pinside forums.
excellent job, I use the same process for worn areas on playfields prior to clear coat

This is awesome! This will make it more affordable to have and maintain a pinball machine. :D

Very Clever 👍
Though I shall never make a pinball machine this was a pretty fun video to watch :) Nice job!
man of so many talents!!
New Hotness!!! Awesome!!!
vegasdogg111 Thanks :)

Great video have the plastic was going to use a printed image from kinkos that I had printed on a plastic film. Your method looks more faith full.
Nice video. Any video of the reproduction in the machine?
Is there a reason you cant just print directly one the white water slide paper versus the clear then white. I have a nice color printer. Thanks!

I am wondering what specs on a scanner and especially printer I should look for to get a high enough quality to properly do this task.

I caught that Men in Black 2 reference

Wow dude, you are a man of many talents! Great video mate!!
Nice Job :-)

Topesio66 there's no doubt I could. My issue would be that I don't have the originals in order to outline them onto plexiglass.
なんでもがい :-)
