I saw someone advise to wait for the coat of dye to dry, then rub it with a dry cloth in case any of it flakes. Then repeat a couple of times so you've got a solid layer of dye with no potential flaking. Then your top coats are going to be safe. Doesn't matter how many layers you put on, if your first coat of dye has a weak point, it'll flake and take everything on top of it too.
I've owned the Haven Ultraboost since basically release. I've worn them a crap ton, through snow, slush and rain, since I've got em. There is really minimal chipping, little splinters of black paint fall off and seem to leave a minor hole. I haven't touched it up yet. But I'm planning to after this.
Does the non acetone nail polish remover work just as well as the leather preparer and deglazer? Also, does the nail polish remover have to be non acetone?
My method is simple and effective, I've only had one small piece get rubbed off in 3 weeks of wear. I took boost and sharpied it one coat. Then I painted 1 coat of angelus flat black paint, 1 coat of the matte finisher, and to end it off, crep protect over the boost areas.
No dye at all? Or the prepper/nail polish remover? And u think that sharpie is necessary? I have a sharpie paint marker angelus paint and matte finisher and spray im thinking maybe i just do that bc i dont rlly wanna buy dye, theyre just for work and to revive old beat up soles i dont mind touching up aswell just wondering if the prepper and or dye are absolutely necessary
My mom hates to buy protective stuf for shoes she says it doesnt work sooo i did the oil sharpie thing and it works actually just do a coat every month your gucci plus name it the adidas x sharpie edition ok
Hmm I have 4 pairs of Ultra Boosts in my collection and I thought about blacking them out but I think as long as you look after them and give the Boost a wipe over with a wet wipe once a month they look fine as they are. It just seems like too much hassle and a expensive failure to get this wrong.
I did 2 coats of dye and 2 of paint over a few days but I got bad orange flakiness the first time I wore them because the base coat started flaking away. I rubbed them down with acetone to start again but I got left with this slightly smoky looking midsole that I think looks pretty cool so I haven't bothered yet. It's like smoke with the glow of flames behind it (like the Balrog in LOTR!)
@@Kaetoh I used the de-glazer I think. Nail polish remover has destroyed too many things in my house and I've finally learned my lesson not to use it anymore. One of the key things is making sure each layer is thin, fully absorbed and not gonna peel. Doesn't matter how many layers you apply, if the bottom one peels, the whole lot is coming off. I think after rubbing it down after that first attempt and reapplying, they've been good. You need to do the odd touch up from time to time, but it's not noticeable
Have you done this with any other color besides black? Depending on the colorway of the upper, I'm sure there are people out there that would like to put a matching or contrasting color on the boost instead of having it black or white
Something I've come to terms with is Triple white UB's will never be Coke white like the first day you got them no matter how many times you clean it. So the comments above are valid
There's a washing machine with light bleach option I think. Only really applicable to top loading machines, not the front load ones like we have in the UK. There's a video somewhere on here
Was wondering this too i have grass stained ones that r kinda beat up and have the black paint and matte finisher but no prepper or dye wondering if it’s necessary
What if its an old beat up shoe? Mine has scrapes, dirt and grass stains all over it. I figure maybe i clean it, paint it and put matte finisher. Would that work just to wear at work so im not wearing dirty shoes? Or is there anything i can grab easily to make that easier (nail polish remover/is it rlly necessary even when the boost material is kinda beat up) and dye, is that necessary? Can i use rit dye or something easier to get? Or is it absolutely crucial? I dont mind touching it up every once in a while
I don't own black boost but I own the Tech Rust and they are not cracking ,flaking or running off. I wear my UBs almost everyday and I've had them for 4months.
I plan to black out a pair of new ultra boost Tokyo, I plan to remove the gold paint on the midsole I was wondering if you could also paint the red plastic that pops out from the sole without risking cracking given that’s it’s plastic different from the midsole. In addition can I just use the angelus acrylic matte paint after the dye and not use the black paint. I plan on applying a coat of clear matte after the acrylic dries. Please advise thank you
My city sock 1 with the trail outsole is in a triple black and I wear them a lot. Haven’t had a single issue with the boost paint. The two customs however didn’t hold up well at all. The 4.0 ultras didn’t last a single wear but the 93/17 lasted a couple weeks. And I wear my shoes casually. Keeping them clean. No parkour or anything like that. I only used alcohol wipes to prep though, no acetone.. this time I used nail polish remover w/acetone to strip the paint and start over. Hopefully they last this time. I even waited longer between coats
I was gonna do the same to my eqt but people say the matte finisher gives it too much of a glossy finsh on the reviews on amazon. Will it make the boost too shiny or is it only on leather that it will make it too shiny?
Yeah the acrylic (matte) finisher gives way too much gloss ... so what i did was wait till my shoes wore down some and then i started process over but this time i used literal none to 1% of the finisher, Hes Kicks claims that the finisher helps keep the paint stick so , i guess since we arent using much finisher , make sure u use something like the angelus mink oil aerosoft spray
Hes you forgot to mention the plasti-dip ones you did. I was so curious how those held up. Getting angelus paints is tough in canada costs a lot to import and if it freezes (two of my orders did) then the paint is useless, but every car store has plastidip. Hit me up how has the plastidip ones held up? long time follower and sub.
i had mine plastidipped and it held up pretty well. Still its gonna chip off a little and i need to do some touch up from time to time. But overall it's somewhat durable so if you don't mind having to do some touch-ups then go for it. You can also paint the boost black so when the plastidip chip it won't be as visible.
How about painting the white boost when you have a gum sole? I have a black pair of nmd r2s with a gum sole and it looks like a nightmare to paint the Angelus paint on them without touching the gum sole. Any tips? A white oil marker won't mess them up and will get the midsoles looking nice again as long as you're carefully about not touching the upper while doing it.

I didn’t use deglazer or nail polish remover the first time so I’m redoing it now. We’ll see how they both hold up after using acetone and waiting longer between coats

just everyday use, mostly indoors. didnt bother me
In order to avoid cracks you must add 2-hard to the flat black paint...i saw that tip on another video

Is there a comfort difference between boost sneakers with no insole Vs a little insole Vs a full blown insole?
Tezmen Smith I think wearing my ultra boost without an insole feels much better but the NMDs insole isn't bad either
Much more comfortable with the insoles.
