    Just catching up on your authentic and enjoyable vlogs. The first few months of life on your very own boat is a magical time full of challenges and everyday dramas, all great learning curves. I'm a solo traveller, sadly not full time, so far this year not any time. Hopefully soon restrictions will be lifted and my BP will come tumbling down as it does on board. In the meantime I look forward to sharing your adventures and photography. Thank you.

    That's hilarious! I'm in the middle of watching episode 25 right now, that birdsong was magical. Andrew I feel like you've become my pen pal I'm really enjoying it thanks for all your replies. I gather you are back into lockdowns you poor things. We have done really well here in Perth Western Australia as we have an incredibly good decisive premier in charge of our state who was on the ball early on and locked down our borders. This was very advantageous as we are the most isolated city in the world so we have been Covid free for months and living in a bubble enjoying a realatively normal life again. I feel for you all over there I really do it's a very restrictive lifestyle

    Andrew I hope in the future you can show on a map you starting/stopping points also point out any type of landmarks along the way: examples might be a factory, marina, golf course, a major highway etc, etc. I try to follow your route on Google Earth. Love your videos. South Carolina.

    • @talesfromtheswansneck
      @talesfromtheswansneck  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Russ, thank you, I'm pleased you like the vids. I realise other narrowboat youtubers do that but I like to keep my blogs shorter than 12 minutes if at all possible, and because the visual content is important to me I feel including maps including maps would impinge on that. It is quite difficult cutting 40 - 70 minutes footage down to 10 or 12 minutes. Also I usually film only small sections of canal. If it helps please use the CRT maps canalrivertrust.org.uk/enjoy-the-waterways/canal-and-river-network where you can enter the canal name, and use street view. I will however be doing an historical piece soon where it will probably be necessary to use google earth to show the route. Thanks. Andrew

    Ah, I would cross the pond and find a boat quick as a flash if could. There is an island here in he states off the coast of Maine where I go a couple of times a year. The simplicity of living on an island with no electricity, oil lamps is such a balm, especially these days.

    Thanks for your response to my comment on the idle women Andrew you mentioned in your message back to me you were from the South too but blow me down I've just heard you say in this vlog you were from Southampton. That was my closest city as my parents had a cottage in Bursledon Southampton where they filmed that boaty TV program Howards Way and they used my parents cottage as a backdrop in one of the episodes! The Jolly Sailor pub that continually featured was my local where I hung out with my friends. Small world aye!

    • @talesfromtheswansneck

      @@talesfromtheswansneck How extraordinary you went to school in Fareha! I went to Primary school in Wykeham House in Fareham which is no longer there. The bakery on the corner where we used to buy tuppeny iced buns after school which I found when I visited in 2014 is still there though. They were quite chuffed I went in and said I used to buy buns from them as a child. How amazing too that the Jolly sailor was your watering hole in your youth too, I think you're considerably younger than me as I turned 70 this year so we wouldn't have been in there at the same time though!

      John Peel? I'll take that one, better than Noel Edmunds who I've also been compared to. Solo locking was a bit disconcerting at first, but taking it slow and double checking everything seemed to do the trick. Now that I'm more experienced I've learned the short-cuts rather than everything by the book. I was hoping to have done some videos by now about how to tackle locks single-handed, but because of covid this hasn't ben possible yet.

    So sad the owner died..wonder if he has relations to claim the boat....developers are allowed to build homes on flood planes because it is all about money..how much the local councils can get....have some near me which flood every year after heavy rain...they knew they were traditional flood plains...all about greed and money.....

  • @taber247
    @taber247 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why are developers alowed to build homes on flood plains? No idea.
    And doubtless the developer has no obligation to inform you? After all flooding is an act of GOD.
    But if you have a bothersome neighbour you must tell the buyer, even if you know it's a personality clash and the buyer and neighbour may get on fine.
    Or perhaps it's because Governments make money from business.
