The ability to play my childhood favorites like Shining in the Darkness, Shining Force 1-2 and Landstalker in handheld mode is enough to be worth it for me.
Picked this up on day one and I’ve finally been able to BEGIN to delve into it. So happy to have these games on my Switch. Now, if only Sega would release some compilations from the Saturn or Dreamcast things would be REALLY INTERESTING!!

I'm surprised you didn't mention the lag in button responses for games such as Sonic 2 and the 'double jump' issues in Revenge of Shinobi and Shinobi 3, which make the games more difficult than normal. These issues don't affect the steam version. Speaking of the Steam version you have the ability to change region of the carts so sometimes the artwork is different, and other times you have unique bosses which didn't make it to the west (See Streets of Rage 3)
I wish they would release some third party Mega Drive games for newer consoles as I'd love to play Robocop vs Terminator again it was one of my favourites when i was a kid.
I ended up buying this collection anyway, but Sega really messed up with this one. There were so many amazing omissions that should have been included; Castlevania, Aladdin, Lion King, Earthworm Jim 1 and 2, Boogerman, Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles, Cool Spot, Chester Cheetah, Beavis and Butthead, Ren and Stimpy: Stimpy’s Invention
That would've been amazing, but the majority of the games you listed are not Sega properties, meaning Sega would need to get permission and pay licensing fees to the owners. Depending on who owns the games they could refuse to license the game or charge an ungodly amount of money for the rights. Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles were left off due to complications and cost of getting licensing rights to some of the games music. So as great as it sounds what you are wishing for is nearly impossible for Sega to do and would've probably made the game cost $100+.

I heard about input lag in another review but didn’t hear it mentioned in this review. Was it not noticeable enough? That’s been holding me back from an insta buy
I haven't noticed any input lag at all in many hours of play. I have played only in handheld so maybe the lag is an issue in docked mode only like it is in pinball fx3.
@@SwitchWatch You're totally wrong. The lag is awful and highly noticable in this game. NOT PRESENT in the originals or even other ports. I have all the Sega 3D ports on 3DS and they play perfectly. I put my Switch next to my 3DS with Sonic playing on both. On Switch, you press jump and Sonic jumps about a half-second later. On 3DS he jumps right as you press jump.
Oh yeah, one of my few memories of the Mega Drive is playing Golden Axe with my cousin. I was blown away when he showed me you could ride on animals haha. Such simple times!
Ordered this a day ago. Had to wait because my nearby store doesn't have it so I am praying Australia post will not wait til January to deliver it. Not a huge Sega fan but me and my bro did enjoy playing Trouble Shooter, Castlevania and Street Fighter 2 on it. I only wanted to grab this game because of the JRPGs but the others will be a huge bonus.

Even if I'm a big SNK Fan and the Menu on the SNK Collection is much better, the Sega Collection wins easily with the games. And you are absolutely right: it's better than the NES Online Games too. And I was never a Sega Player - now I am, thanks to this Collection.

I am amazed you never mentioned or spotted some of the horrendous issues which for me makes this compilation unplayable. I picked this up yesterday, and the input lag is horrific, makes sonic almost unplayable for me, and the audio issues are unforgivable. The springs in sonic sound garbled, and Streets Of Rage 3 sounds completely broken. I wouldn't touch this compilation, ever!
I'm getting this today. I'd like to see a Saturn collection, as I've never had a chance to play most of the games on that system. Unrelated question: Are you going to do an update covering the new games added to SNK collection? I'm enjoying them so far, but they didn't put as much effort in to them as they did the initial set. No individual borders, for instance.
It’s a shame that the switch doesn’t do the same for there SNES or NES catalog giving its Nintendo console, be great to have classic Metroid, paperboy, teenage mutant turtles, super Star Wars, empire strikes back, return of the Jedi, batman returns etc

I dont get why most reviewers don’t even mention,that the switch version is worse than the version for other consoles. It doesn’t contain wonderboy 3, monsterboy and a poster. I hate how some developers cheap out on switch versions.

Aww no love for the Master System in the poll. Im suprised that the Dreamcast is getting so much love now a days considering it sold so poorly when it was out. Even the Saturn and Master System sold better than it. And of course, it was obliterated by the PS2.
I think the ps1 was released at the same time as the dreamcast and probably the reason for dreamcasts low sales. People and marketing hyped the playstation up.

I just thought it was odd that theres a lot of people singing the praising of the system now when hardly anyone really bought it when it was actually around. I don't know where this opinion that nobody played Nintendo in the U.K came from. I literally knew one kid in my entire school that had a Megadrive. Everyone had an NES and then SNES.
Yeah Nintendo just wasn’t that popular where I grew up near Manchester either. Everyone I knew had the Master System and then moved on to the Mega Drive. Think there was one kid I knew who had the SNES and we used to go round his to play Mario Kart etc.

Well the NES and SNES mini are officially out of production now so when current stock sells out you may be forced to pay scalper prices. Megadrive Classics should be easy to find for the foreseeable future plus it can be purchased digitally. I personally think the Megadrive Classics is a better bargain and overall a better purchase, but you might want to get one of the Mini consoles first while you can still get them for retail price.
@@serge2cool Yeah I just read an article this morning saying that Reggie said the production is over and what is currently in stores is all there will be. There's no way to really know how many are out there in the wild. It sure does seem like a convenient time of year for Nintendo to announce they won't be making any more, and rush people into a purchase. You can't go wrong with any of your 3 choices though, all fun stuff.
The menu system is something they had updated the PC version to use (likely as a beta for consoles) and it's annoying. Their previous collections have had more straight forward, nicer looking menus with collections that have more features and such. It's a bit of a baffling thing they they didn't include GameGear or Master System titles to padd it out a bit since they're not releasing another collection it would seem. Annoyingly lacking Sonic 3 & Knuckles is down to something weird going on at SEGA, not even allowing a remaster to be made like 1,2 and CD got.
I bought it and did the game update at home but when I take my switch out with me on the road It says I can’t play on my switch cuz I need internet…..r u fukin serious? 🙄
sega mega drive has been bashed to death with releases of the same games on different consoles they need to start bringing out saturn and dreamcast collections.
I want to see Sega master system, game gear, arcade, Saturn and Dreamcast collection series for the Nintendo Switch. I had this game for the PS4 and was quite upset not seeing Sonic 3/and Knuckles at all. Sega can afford to pay Sony for the sample clearance of Michael Jackson. It's an incomplete buy
At least it doesn't cost more digitally. RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventures is literally $10 MORE expensive digitally than physically, at least here in the US.
Its Mega drive in Japan and all over the world EXCEPT AMERICA, so in all honesty just call it a mega drive, what ever the Americans call it is irrelevant.
They just put the same old games on as usual. It got boring very quickly. Id like to see road rash and some different games unstead of all these bland ones.

I didn't notice it to be honest. I think a lot of people have rose tinted glasses when it comes to input lag. Retro games had them too.

It's the nostalgia cycle. People who are old enough to be nostalgic are now in the Dreamcast era. Including me!

sega mega drive has been bashed to death with releases of the same games on different consoles they need to start bringing out saturn and dreamcast collections.

I had this game for the PS4 and was quite upset not seeing Sonic 3/and Knuckles at all. Sega can afford to pay Sony for the sample clearance of Michael Jackson. It's an incomplete buy

Idk I thought The Wily Wars was crap compared to the NES versions. The animations are just off putting, also it's a PAL game so it's slow as hell.

At least it doesn't cost more digitally. RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventures is literally $10 MORE expensive digitally than physically, at least here in the US.

Its Mega drive in Japan and all over the world EXCEPT AMERICA, so in all honesty just call it a mega drive, what ever the Americans call it is irrelevant.
They just put the same old games on as usual. It got boring very quickly. Id like to see road rash and some different games unstead of all these bland ones.
