I have never thought about Roundabouts being a problem. They are so popular because they are smarter and better than traffic lights. Nice video though.

I just came back from Europe. Rented car for 2 weeks. OMG. Gas and tolls killed me. I am a very experienced driver, being born outside the USA in a HUGE city. I do not recommend driving in europe if you are very soft on driving. About Roundabouts... As an engineer, I love them. They reduce risks of major accidents and wasted time waiting.

Many forget that Madrid, Spain, is as far South as New York City. London is almost 800 miles more to the North. Amsterdam, Berlin, London, Paris and even Rome is more to the North than Madrid. That is why Europe is colder and rainier than a vast part of the USA. The countries on the European side of the Mediterranean Sea, especially the coastal regions are warmer and dryer.
Europe is far more densely populated, so places in the middle of nowhere are much harder to find.

As an American, I find it funny how many things you think only exist in Europe but are actually common here as well. Some states (more than half) require you to have both front and back plates, you can absolutely get pulled over for a cracked windshield as well as no lights on if it’s raining. Tolls are very much a thing here on the East Coast. Driving the entirety of the PA turnpike costs about $70. Driving from Philly to NYC via the NJ Turnpike is about $30 and any bridge or tunnel into or out of NYC from Jersey is $15-18. Living right next to New Jersey, I am very familiar with roundabouts. But here in Philly we have two and people do not know how to use them. Too many times they stop IN the roundabout which is exactly how it’s not suppose to work 😂
There are right to roam laws in Austria, Belarus, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Scotland, Sweden, Switzerland, and Czechia. I would say the percentage of space where there is open camping in Europe is equal to the split in the US considering BLM land is all on the west coast and you don’t really have free camping options here on the east coast. I’m surprised you guys didn’t seek out right to roam countries if you wanted more privacy and remoteness.

lol, Croatia driving must have changed since I was there (2015 & 2017)… it was the first place I rented a car and I remember thinking it was my favorite place to drive because it was so chill and had empty roads 😂

    European here 🙋🏽‍♀️
Nice to see Europe from the point of view of an American.
Over here, it’s often rainy, but this year was awful. Usually, though, it’s better than what you experienced.
Unfortunately, gas prices are always high due to excessively high taxes on gas

As a South African Swiss (or a Swiss South African😂) , you are now visiting South Africa, imagine doing gas at ZAR 21 x 1 Euro or Swiss Franc like we do when visiting family 😉 I hear the cons, but thank you so much for the content. You kept me going when I was still not able to go back for a visit and just missed the views and everything. Hope both of you are feeling better and enjoy South Africa!

I can't believe how cheap gas is for you in Florida for you van!! I'm in Sydney Australia and it costs me around $60 USD to fill up an empty tank for my tiny toyota yarris!! definitely don't do van life in Australia if you want to save on gas, tolls, or not have roundabouts haha 😂 (fyi, diesel is cheaper here too compared to unleaded, I'm surprised to hear that's not the case for the US lol)

I live in Germany and I did Van Live in the USA many times, and yes, many things are less complicated in the US as in Europe. Long distance cruising from westcoast to eastcoast USA is a lot more stress free as to travel across europe. I´ enjoyed, that there are only a few toll station in USA outside the national parks. The bad weather situation in Europa in the winter time is the reason, why so many camper vans and RV´s travel to spain, Greek or South Italy during the winter time.

    Hello guys, french guy here.
The prices were like this already before the war for fuel. Actually now, I consider the prices even cheap compared to a year ago. Around 1.70 in general now and before it was around 1.9 even close to 2.
For the weather yeah, last year was worse than the previous so you were unlucky.
How did you manage to do sport when it was cold or raining?

Remember, you can just call it a Ram ProMaster, since Ram was spun off from the Dodge marque in 2010. What you meant to say that it's the extended body with the high roof. Since the 2023 model year, there is now the super high roof option for the extended 159" wheelbase ProMaster, which was only available for the European counterparts prior to that, including the Fiat Ducato.

Well.. confused here. The rain you expirienced was severly more than previous years so to put it as a reason “ why van life sucks in Europe “ is .. just unfair. Romania has been in EU for long time now I wonder if you even checked this but Shengen zones shouldnt affect you as much as USA travelers. Yes some countries arent in Shengen Yet you are still allowed to stay for 90 days per visit. Bulgaria and Romania for an example - yes you have to go throught a border where they check and stamp your passports and then you can stay for 90 days. I wouldnt think going through an average border will be of any problem for you as tourists. So I didn’t quite understand this as a reason for van life in Europe to suck.
The Target reason must be a joke right ? How can you compare the comfortability of having Target in each state in US with not having the same stores in the different countries in Europe ? In USA you are not leaving your country of origin , its still technically “ Home” in each state you go to- you know how the medical system works, you know the language , you know your stores and etc. In Europe you go through different countries- this is the whole point traveling in Europe- everything is different in each country- the language , the mentality , the history…
I don’t know , I just felt that its not a fair title here - this was your expirience I understand , however talking so bad about a whole continent needs stronger and fair argumentation guys.
How is roundabouts a things to add here as well ? In US there are only stop signs and who ever get there first must go first. So as a third/ forth car somewhere you need to be tracking all cars around you in which order did they arrive to the stop sign. This is so agrivating but I wouldn’t never use it as a reason “ why van life in USA sucks “. And someone will think your video is very informative. How about completly cutting off Eastern Europe from Europe saying that if you follow the Shengen rules you might end up in countries you have never wanted to visit. How offensive is this guys c’mon. As if Europe is only France , Spain , Italy and everything in between. As serbian you should know how underestimated the Balkans are and how much more they have to offer.
The biggest , value argument here was the prices for gas and probably food , and I agree and understand the shock from this. But in the same time I cant imagine rescuing 3 kittens in USA because the vet bill will cost as much as my car. ( joking of course but you know it will cost an arm and a leg more than it will in Europe.)
Just the “ Brutal truth “ title is very unfair

Europe does have the parts to do your oil change, I think you just stumped them with your American vehicle LOL. I have a 2017 Ram ProMaster 3500 3.6 liter engine and the European equivalent is a Fiat Ducato Van. Looks identical and it's exactly the same engine size and same chassis parts. I was looking for a part that was not in stock for mine, and the dealership pulled up all the European couterparts that are interchangeable.

Europe is not a country but a continent, the fact checking and ignorance of this video is alarming! This is why people hate America’s, the absolute privilege of these two clowns is ridiculous! It’s not that European prices are expensive, it’s that the US heavily subsidizes the energy industry while Europe heavily taxes it.
