True living off 500 bucks a month, takes a lot of practice, years of it. The average guy will never do it.. A thousand a month would be hard for a lot of guys. I bring in a 1000 a month, I bank what I don't need. Honestly If you are really good at living a quiet life the best most can ever do is 600 to 650 a month. Work or business is a stupid Idea, you want to retire here then retire and live a quiet life stay away from living in the big city find a small town with the things you need and relax.
I see many vids about expats living in the philippines , each has their own story . I been here 11 years , I am on SS so I live on a budget that works for me . I had no debt but recently purchased a lot next to mine . The few things I did get on time I paid early , I hate credit. When my money comes in the wife gets half and I get half thats works well . I could never have in the US what I have here , Key is don't try to live beyond your means .
Here in NYC, my mortgage+tax+insurance+ utilities come out to about $2500 a month on my first house. My second house's mortgage+tax+insurance+ utilities come out to about $3000 a month (but I rent it). In the Philippines: #1 THE GRASS RESIDENCES - My favorite 1 bedroom Quezon City condo thus far is rentable for $500 a month It's possibly $600 or $700 if you go for a 2 bedroom. #2 When you have a Filipina, chances are she'll be cooking for you - all you've gotta do is buy the fresh vegetables, fruit and meat. I've learned, you save a LOT OF MONEY when you have a woman cooking for you. I'd say your food budget need only be around $500 a month which is TWICE the salary of your average Filipino. Pasta, Rice, vegetable and fruit meals aren't expensive at all. #3 Your clothing budget needn't be much more than shorts, t-shirt and sandals most of the time. It should be very low, but you'll do best having family mail you clothes from America if you can't shop for the sizes in Philippines. #4 Internet and phone bills are cheap there. I think I paid $25 - $30 a month for my Phone's unlimited plan. I'm fairly certain I could live comfortably in Philippines on $2500 a month. $30,000 a year is still more than 50% higher than the average Filipino income in the city.
My fully furnished condo rental is around 25k pesos which is about $500. All utilities included. This was in Cebu City and Davao City. I have yet to explore this type of living in Manila. Any suggestions which fully furnished condos I can rent for around that price range? Is Manila's red light district a cool place to stay in short term?
Yeah, I wouldn't even consider moving to the Philippines, being single and frugal, with less than $1500, but would aim for $2-3k/mo. That would cover living expenses and that important health insurance, while still leaving room to set some aside for emergencies. Again, that's living a more western type life style, but still thrifty in spending. Now if you just have to have that high standard, total western life style, you can look at much more. Bring in a family and those costs would rise even more. Best to do an extended visit first. Spend a month or so and experience the actual life style you want to live, in the area you plan on settling down in. Get a realistic ideal of just what those costs would be before you make that move. Adjust and see what you can do without or add those items you 'need' to feel comfortable.
Yes all Jay's reminders are correct ! And just be honest to goodness and no drugs and no troubles at all you can live in the philippines as long as you want 🇵🇭🇺🇸 Because filipinos loves foreigners !

I'm definitely going to keep a watch on Jay, I hope I'm not to busy when we go to the Philippines this May 2023. We haven't been back for 22+ years. Bro when you said you were from NYC, I said BooYah! I'm from Central Jersey. Well when we come I'll look you up. Keep the Vids up, good job.

I lived in cebu city for 4 years, and have been going to the PI for over 20 years. Most of my coworkers are filipino, so i used to visit with them. The number one cost is medical, if u do not have money saved for emergency medical needs then u are screwed. Even if u have insurance, the hospitals require there money right away. So most of the insurance companies will make u pay first, the give you your money back. Or make sure you have a big credit limit credit card available., this happened to me last year. They also will run up your bill since u foreigner, make sure you check your bill before you pay. They did many unnecessary blood tests on me, nothing to do about my leg pain. I demaned to be released, they charged me 100, 000 pesos for nothing.,,,,,I have left cebu and i am back here in USA......
The Dollar Store comparison is perfect Jay to what many ex pats do here..esp when they first arrive. It takes awhile to change this way of thinking and live more like a Filipino.
Thanks for your great advice but that ten dollars an hour in a call centre seems a bit high by Philippines standards . If it is true it would be a great wage .
Wow, i wonder why your Electricity bill was so much, I run my AC all day and only pay like 2,100 PHP a month in electricity, maybe its the size of the AC and how much wattage it uses
Thanks, I enjoyed the content. I’m somewhat fascinated with some of the train wreck stories that come out of the Pi and Thailand regarding expats and their vices. Maybe that’s my vice.
I think you could live on 500 as my family does it but if you are western and you want to have some of the lifestyle of home you would want 1000 or 1500 and more as you age and need medical more.
I realized vices like cigarettes and alcohol were dirt cheap when I first travelled to Asia. I stayed away from them. No drinking and I've never smoked. I found it easier to just drink local Buko Juice and the street vendor shakes. I love taste testing local food. I'm about to fly from JFK to Dubai and MALDIVES and I intend to immerse myself in Maldivian cuisine.
Dangers are in every city bro i agree - i wouldn’t go walking around my own neighbourhood here after dark. I feel safer at 3am on the streets of Manilla -subd.

Jay, is it a good idea to ship all your clothes in the Philippines when you're planning to move there? Or do you suggest just starting over, and buying a whole new wardrobe?
Bring one or two suitcases of clothes with you when you come. No need to ship clothes. Most of them you will never wear. If you need a new shirt/pair of pants at some point you can simply buy them here.
@@thinkforyourself9334 I use to also live in Hawaii, that's why I'm asking. I've got plenty of tropical weather clothes. But now I don't use them much, living in the San Francisco Bay Area.
A pack of generic cigarettes ( Maverick ) in Wisconsin is anywhere between $7.00 and $8.00 . I know what you mean by vice's. I don't drink , gamble or do drugs. But these damned cigarettes. Expats. Well , here in Antipolo, I've met a few of them I hardly ever do see any of them around really. But it's kinda odd. When ever I approach one and ask them , hey buddy ! Their response is very short and abrupt. I don't know why. Anyway , have a good day. And take care of yourself.
Jay, I am happy you have step up your game in telling the Truth about things in the Philippines eve though expats were doing the same the 80’s and 90’s. Keep sharing the knowledge. God is Good and All the Time…....
I know some TH-camrs aren’t fully honest, they may have $500 a month in passive income but then they don’t count the money they make on YT. Or maybe they bought her a house and now don’t have rent to pay.
