I'm a TRUCK DRIVER and what you know about Janiva, trucks, truck drivers and the blues is at best up for debate. I've seen Janiva and her band perform and everybody loved her and had a good time. Isn't that what it is all about guitar man? A lot of people can play guitar and sing but only a few can get people moving or touch them. God bless her and her music. She is a lot of fun. Listening to Miss Janiva reminds me how great that She really is. And reminds me how much I miss "The Toughest Girl Alive", Her contemporary the sadly departed Miss Candye Kane. A local Cable Music channel introduced me to the tremendous music of both and I have been ferociously devoted ever since. And yes Janiva Magness could easily be Katey Sagal's sister and vice versa.B.W.
This woman is a great singer! She must have suffered a great deal to sing the Blues the way she belts it out. If that how it ends, you've got to love the Blues.

This performance was a benefit for the Oregon Food Bank.. Janiva survived a rough year because of the food they provided for her when she was just starting out... She wanted to acknowledge that to encourage donations to OFB..

Magness is an average singer. Not very soulful. She's a perfect example of hard work overcoming a lack of talent. Blues today is a disgrace. If you want to hear true female soul, check out Danielle Schnebelen with Trampled Under Foot. Magness is an average lounge act.
That Danielle is awesome. I've just checked her out. Incredible voice... Now I'm not gonna make a comparison between Janiva and her. I still like them both.
