- Heavy thunderstorm in Interlaken Switzerland! In summer, thunderstorms are a common weather phenomenon in the Berner Oberland and Jungfrau Region. Sometimes they are very short and powerful like the one in the video that only lasted about 30 minutes. During this walking tour in Interlaken you can witness the beginning, middle and end of a heavy thunderstorm that even brought some hail!

I was in Switzerland many years ago and loved it. Stayed in the Lake Como area and drove thru the mountains to Interlacken. The ride was breath taking. Way up in the mountains the scenery was unreal.

I lived and backpacked Europe for 7 months in 1998, including Interlaken. Right about now I'd be stepping into a Cafe for a coffee and brandy....maybe a pastry on the side! I love the color of the river from the alpine runoff!

Update: just returned from a 8-day stay in Interlaken and it's amazing how familiar how every scene here has become! Just as soon as you master the SBB app, train & bus schedule, it's time to go home - LOL.

Interlaken beautiful wet or dry. sunny or cloudy summer or winter the post rain pictures of the buildings sparkling in the sun when the clouds cleared makes me want to return
We loved Interlaken! That was our jumping off point for Lauterbrunnen. You walked past the pharmacy/apothecary that saved our trip. I woke up in Hilterfingen with a very high fever and, they game me something that brought the fever down in less then an hour. Wish they had medicine like that in America.
