1994. I was 21 years old, expecting to be a father within a few months, working full time, contemplating my existence, writing my own music..... I was heavily into Queensryche at that time. This song, as well as many other songs off this album bring back many memories from that time. It's a shame that you cannot relive some of the pasts of your life.

Faack, one of the songs I still put on when I can't sleep. I love old school music. they sure as shit don't make it like they used to. King's X, Led Zeppelin, Cream, The Cure. No more heart in modern music.

@@rockonbaz No, they lost their way after Hear in the Now frontier, it had a bit of an alt-vibe but it was still a good album. I think all the albums after that (HITNF included) are unnecessarily hated, they aren't bad albums and some can even be considered fairly good, but a band like Queensryche shouldn't be putting out just "fairly good" albums. Thank god they kicked Geoff, picked up Todd and got their momentum back.

Little girl sits in the corner, locked in a stare.
Arms waving madly at something that sadly isn't there.
Dressed in the day's best by a nurse who's nowhere to be found.
    What does she see?
    Maybe she's looking at me...
Old man is strapped to the seat of his chair, wearing a gown.
Shouting and cursing at someone who clearly isn't around.
Father Time has twisted his mind.
The staff says, "He's not well!"
    To whom does he speak?
    Maybe he's speaking to me...
So we keep these people inside these walls, from society.
Their forgotten lives safe from the crowd, they can't leave.
You've left them there with me.
So we keep these people behind these walls, from society.
Their forgotten lives safe from the crowd, they can't leave.
Through the doors come people like me, good-bye to them.
They see a picture few of us see.
    They can't leave.
You've left them there with me.

The original Ryche still crushes everything. The only other band that can compete with the OG Ryche in songwriting is a post-punk experimental rock band called This Heat. The bands wrote the most mind-expanding thought-provoking musical lyrics.

It sucks ass that the first progressive metal band that wrote the most thought provoking, mind-expanding music has parted ways. Geoff Tates' vocals crushed everyone and still do. And Chris DeGarmos' guitar work and songwriting stand alone. Metal has a vitality of its own and has taken music to the extreme ; it cannot get any harder, faster, technical, emotional nor progressive. That is why it is the sickest form of music humans can create.. i.e. Korn( first album: finest work using bagpipes) the first progressive metal band Queensryche, (key boards, piano work, female vocals, and operatic overture). Metalcore band As I Lay Dying (piano work) and God Forbid (electronic violin). I am sure there are more metal bands I am not aware of that use others musical instruments not mentioned.

The new Queensryche isn't half bad yet post-Promised Land Queensryche was very lackluster. Albums and songs were too forgettable and lacked heart which is why many fans consider Promised Land their last great album.
