Final update: this little reel is the little engine that could th-cam.com/users/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e . It performed flawlessly and was easy to adjust drag in the moment while I was battling a 35lb bat ray behemoth. Mind you, this reel is spooled with only 25 lb braid and 25 mono topshot. It's paired with the kastking telescopic heavy power rod and the two work well together. This has now earned my respect and confidence when traveling and fishing. If you have ever hooked into large rays and sharks, you know they pull extremely hard and can run forever! This thing clamped down on the fish and was easy to adjust during the fight. It has a nice decently fast retrieve as well. Twice the fish went on mad runs and I was able to gain back line quickly to avoid spooling.
“This might be a big ol doormat!” Love it!!! Great catch bro. You are a hell of a fisherman and very modest about it. Your parents did a great job with you. Love your channel. To many more tight-lines my friend.
Thank you so much for your videos! I had a misfortune, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. I also created a channel and am trying to move in that direction, but so far not very successful((yo
Way to keep pushing! I just went out here in Eastern nc this past weekend in my Hobie and took an absolute beating by the weather and wind. Ended up fishn for 6 hours and finally hooked up to a respectable sheep head and pulled the hook right at the net. The current was just to strong and the fish was using it properly. But way to stay in the game man! Great content.
That size of fish is what we target offshore in Wa . The best eating and sustainable to not take the big females that are the breeders. Great job persisting to the point of success!

Prodused some solid FLOUNDER, what you call Cali hallie is NOT a real hallie. It's a flounder very closely related to the fluke. And no i dont know why you guys call them a hallie but i guess because they are very big for a flounder.
@@MrKveite1 pacific halibut and California halibut are both technically flounder. While pacific halibut are what are traditionally referred to as “halibut”, both are just regional common-names. It’s pedantic to correct regional common names, that’s why scientific names exist. It would be like me telling someone in NJ that they’re wrong for calling striper “rockfish”, because “rockfish” are something completely different where I live. That would be weird because neither are really called “rockfish” according to the scientific classification. The departments of wildlife understand this concept, and you can tell because they’re literally referred to as “California halibut” in the regulations set out by CDFW.
Dang Adam, awesome catch!! I didn't know there were halibut there! When I was a kid (when your parents were kids) the squid were so abundant the water looked white when lit up with a flashlight. Nice going!
congrats Adam. THAT was grinding! Feels so much more gratifying knowing how much effort you put into that one fish! So this was just basically a carolina rig you used?
That was a awesome catch. I just couldn’t do that in a kayak like that for one the waves and l’ve been around boater that come to close always which bring bad name to boating. Where was this about?
As always love your content and videos . Congratulations Adam !!!! 👐👐🎣🤙 Looking forward to trying you methods on catching my first halibut from my kayak this year . 🤞 looking forward to your upcoming videos this year . Tight line's Brother 🤙🎣😎
First of all that was a French curler but I know what you mean we would go to jacks doughnuts and everyone would ask no what should I get and I'd tell em get whatever would look the best on the deck when you hurl 😮
