I recently looked back at some of my older photos, when I first started going to the park in the mid 70's. The tallest thing you could see was the Space Spiral. There wasn't any coaster sticking up in the sky. I am glad I am alive during this time as I got to see the park turn into what it is today. Having said that, I believe this is the first season, since the 80's, that I haven't visited the park. No visits this year but hopefully next year.
I never rode mantis because I wasn’t even born, but I absolutely love rougaru. A lot of people don’t like it and it’s not popular, so I’ve never waited more than 5 minutes for a ride. It’s so much fun though
I actually prefer Rougatou over Mantis. I really loved Mantis during its first couple of years but it soon became very rough. Rougarou is much easier to ride, yet it still retains the intense moments of the original.
I was there when Mantis opened when I was 14. I thought it was rough and remember getting cramps in my calves for some reason. My next visit to Cedar Point was when I was 20 and for some reason, I somehow skipped it but one of my brothers got sick for a couple hours after riding it. My last visit to Cedar Point was when I was 32. I got to ride the Gate Keeper and Maverick. I plan to go again soon! I will catch the Rougarou then.
Yes. Hopefully you were able to use it. I took a break from YT for a few months and am just catching up on replies now. It's probably easiest to e-mail me directly if you need footage, just in case I take another longer break sometime.
I noticed you strangely didn’t get any footage of the Bernstein Bears treehouse slide, 😄 where I would’ve been spending my time in 1996…. Well more like 1994.
I remember those slides but I never went down them. I wasn't into that area as I think I was still bummed they took out the big slide, and a few other things, to put that area in. It was my second time experiencing a ride leaving and it bummed me out. My first was when the park removed the Fun House for a King Arthur's Court. I loved that Fun House. I loved the dark rides as well like Earthquake and Pirate Ride.
While I can't agree, Mantis was definitely one of my favorite coasters at the park for the first couple of years after it opened. It then became too rough for me to enjoy it more than once or twice a year.
Hey man! Love this stuff, just raw footage from my favorite park. Can't believe how much the park has changed since then. Hope you're doing well :)
Thanks, Bob!
These years were the heart of my childhood and falling in love with the park. This is MY cedar point.
so weird not seeing Millie 😔

Wow i love the nostalgia. Thanks for this. Long live Mantis 🏁💚
Thank you for watching.
At 8:27 there’s a glitch in the matrix and the same guy is riding in rows 2 through 6
Ha ha. Out of all the years of having that footage, I never noticed that. They really do look similar.
I miss Mantis. Also, really cool to see the original entryway to it! That’s pretty rare to see. Great video.
Thank you.
Ah those were the days... I used to go every summer! I still have an old VHS promo for Cedar Point from the 90s
The coasters are getting less colorful. Probably to avoid the brightness fading quickly and needing repaint but boy did Mantis pop.
In what world do you live in where coasters are less colorful? Lmao
That hat was DONE lol
I was wondering how long it would take someone to catch (no pun attended) that.

this is really cool to see, as someone born after 2000 !!
Do we have permission to use some ride footage for a video we’re doing?

Why does 1996 seem like a lifetime ago? 😒
In a weird way, for me, it doesn't seem as long as it really is. That was half my life ago and it doesn't feel that way to me.
It's so cool to see old footage of cedar point and some of its classic coasters. BTW I was 1 year old when this footage was taken.
Thanks, Stephen. It honestly doesn't feel as long ago as it should.

You should retitle the video….”Mantis in 1996”
WELCOME TO ALASKA!
The New Coaster Name Mantis Was Here In 1996
It's still here today as Rougarou, but yes, this is when it premiered!
I am so glad standups are becoming a thing again. Mantis was by far the best B&M at CP.
