Not only you should be immensely upset, the mere prospective should make your stomach churn. Instead, the reaction of Andy is that of any boy denying to have a crush on someone.

After I watched this new released scene and compared it with the voice mails of Ashley in Andrew's dream, I'm wondering now: what if Andrew indeed never heared these voice mails but got just the informations from Julia, who just said that she received death threats? If that's true, then Andrew would be as much insane as Ashley because it would be his subcautious which created these threats in his mind. With this new scene, I could even imagine that he did think these things. I mean, Julia was just an annoyance and nothing but a tool for him to protect himself and his sister from the rumours. So, maybe all these death threats where he thought that Ashley would have said that to Julia, are in fact nothing but his inner thoughts. Like, that he hated or despised Julia so much because of her constant interference between him and Ashley. It would mean that he is despised by her (Julia) deep down, unsatisfied and just wished that she would finally stop to bother him. Andrew would in this case, even be on the same level as Ashley when it is about jealousy, obsession or possession. The only difference would be, that he is manipulative enough to trick his environment into thinking that he is just a worried and carrying brother while in fact he is just someone who pretends to be normal. He would be like a wolf in sheep's clothes. From the outside, innocent, normal and calm. But in the inside he is just cold and apathic to anyone but his sister. A fullflesh sociopath without any real empathy for other people but Ashley. Also if we choose the "Sane"-path in the Burial route, we can see that his soul is actual black. So, maybe he is actually a tar soul too or worse, a black soul. Someone who was never innocent/sane to begin with but someone who just acted to be normal and manipulated Ashley to become this brother obsessed sister she is.
The more I dwell on it, the more I realise Andrew is much, MUCH worse than Ashley. The fact that Mrs Graves of all people fell for his victim lie proves he is a manipulative mastermind. Part of his trick is allowing Ashley to believe she is a silly little girlboss who comes up with brilliant schemes to manipulate her brother, when in reality Andrew is getting exactly what he wants most of the time-he has specifically enabled Ashley so that he could groom her into being the scapegoat he needed her to be. Andrew's romantic fantasies of suicide pacts with Ashley (or if she refuses, outright murder-suicides) show that he is a million times more possessive than his sister could ever hope to be, but she's not acutely aware of this truth because Andrew didn't teach her to think like that: Andrew taught her that her insecurities are justified and that she must do terrible things to coerce him into staying. As a result, Andrew has: 1). A convenient vessel to offload guilt for his sins 2). A convenient troublemaker always giving an excuse to be with her 3). A little sister whose self-esteem is so low that she absolutely hates herself and would do anything for him One thing we need to understand is that Ashley isn't delusional. Yes, she's wrong about needing to 'coerce' Andrew, but it's a rational conclusion based on how her parents and more importantly Andrew raised her. Furthermore, she isn't some sociopathic agent of destruction, because her dismissal of people is always a retaliation against perceived betrayals: "Nina wants to take my brother away from me", "My friends didn't bother to bring us food, so I don't care about them", "Julia wants to take my brother away from me", "Mum and dad sold us out". Andrew on the other hand is a lunatic! He didn't need to take revenge on Nina or the 302 girl! But deeper-running than that is Andrew's obsession with normalcy, which is really what makes him bonkers. Recall when Andrew looks at his dad in the basement and thinks to himself: "He has always been like that. Just going along with your mother's whims. It hits you then, that you are just like him.........Goddamit." Hah... HE IS WRONG! He wants to believe he's a regular guy caught up by dark interlopers, but Andrew is in fact his MOTHER'S analogue and their eye colours demonstrate this: Dad and Ashley's eyes are pink, whereas Mum and Andrew's eyes are green-Andrew has the same vision as his mother, literally and figuratively. Andrew has ALWAYS held the cards; he's just convinced Ashley, the world, and maybe even himself that he's under her thumb and not the other way around. I'm not saying the parents share zero responsibility for the state of Ashley - and I doubt she was ever going to be totally normal -but Andrew has always had the power and opportunity to "fix" her. She's always going to be an edgy brocon, but Burial (so far) proves that she can mellow out as long as Andrew isn't transactional with her or otherwise screwing with her head. TL;DR Andrew gaslit Ashley into thinking she can gaslight him, which lets Andrew live a lie.
Now where you say it, that makes a lot of sense and it is very fascinating. He exclaims that Ashley wanted to eat the officer but like you said, she just said that she was hungry and made a comment about the blood and corpse of the officer. She only followed Andrew's idea when he suggested it, as she was hungry herself and worried about Andrew. About Nina, he could refuse the idea to support Ashley's revenge on her. He had even the possibility to say "That's enough Ashley, she will die at this point. Also you got your revenge." but he didn't. Instead he agreed and locked her into the chest and I assume that he did it, to hide how awful he and Ashley are. Also, he says that Ashley "doesn't behave" but if I look back and now where I read your comment, I realize that this is crap which he made up. Ashley did and has always behave. Yeah, sometimes she teased him a bit and joked around but in the end she followed Andrew's wishes. When Nina died, she never talked about it. She even nearly erased out of her mind, as she couldn't remember how her face looked like or what her name was. Only Andrew kept it in his mind. First, I also thought that Andrew is similar to his father. But that is nonsense. Ashley follows his whims not the other way around. It's both, really weird and very fascinating. It's almost like as if he created a second personality. Like, as if he created a costume of an average guy and use it as a disguise to hide his dark, sociopathic personality with his dark urges/fantasies. To prevent his sister to get a boyfriend or form any relationships with the opposite sex, he decreases her self-value on a level that she is confident enough to talk back but in the same thinks, that no other guy but Andrew would love and accept her like he does. Your theory brings me to a new theory: What if the reason for Ashley's wish to get "Andy" back is, that she somehow believes that she would get this "innocent" part of him back? Like, that she thinks, if both of them become childish again, that their innocent, healthy sibling world will turn back too? I mean, one of Ashley's complains in Chapter 1 was, that Andrew doesn't spend time with her like he did in the past. Maybe she thinks that, if "Andy" returns, then she will get a non-stop loving and caring again and sheself can become a little sister again who enjoys the company of her big brother and spend time with him like they did in the past.

I suppose all he knew was being nice and protective to his sister and that's all. The one who is responsible for this is his mother, she raised him like this, he can not just be bornt like this. Also, living under the same roof and environment, sharing the same feeling (although Andrew was treated slightly better but still bad) with Ashley, you'll know one thing is that a victim is very protective to the other one cuz he doesn't wish to see his sister to suffer the way he does. Andrew is two years older than his sister that does mean he lived with his horrible parents longer and suffered more than his sister did, also they were kids so he didn't know what to do but making his sister happy cuz he didn't want to see her sadness. I suppose his stone-cold personalities and attitudes we see in the game are due to the thing I said above. I've seen many people said that Andrew is only using Ashley to have s*x with him, I'm not sure about. I think the chance of him using Ashley as a puppet is extremely low but the chance of him making his sister happy is very high,cuz that's how it goes just as long as he is not controlled by a devil. Many viewers think Andy is a bad person cuz he could have stopped Leyley from doing bad things but he chose not to, well I don't think so cuz his mind was not pure back then due to his parents' horribleness. Children are fragile and vulnerable, we can blame on him like that. I can say that the more vulnerable Andy was in the past, the colder Andrew is, I suppose Leyley was tough back then so they see Ashley as a person who is not as bad as her brother. I disagree about Ashley is better than Andrews, Ashley simply hasn't been suffering the way Andrew has. He is not evil, he's corrupted.
Thing to remember about the voicemails: Andrew never heard them (when he confronts Ashley, he goes "so it really was you" , indicating he still had to confirm it.) So when we hear them in his dream, it's essentially his subconscious speaking with Ashley's voice. Meaning most of what is said is true on some level.
@@leamon_3 Worse than nothing, in his flashback of Julia, we see him dismiss Ashley's behavior. If he knew exactly what was going on, he was defending his sister when she was actively harming his girlfriend, and basically tried to make the later feel guilty for even bringing it up to him.
So basically, Andrew will do anything his sister wants, but acts like he won't, and Ashley knows that she can make him do whatever she wants and uses it for her own benefit

I’ve always thought that Andrew never liked Julia mostly because of how he pictures her as a way to kiss/ *ahem* fuck *ahem* someone who could resemble his sister without it being Ashley because it’s frowned upon obviously. After the newest Devlog with Andrew and Julia this only further proves my point because it’s clear he asked Julia out only after hearing about these rumors. Therefore he’s only dating Julia because he clearly cares about his own self image not only with his (what would be) criminal record but to others as well. I honestly think you're absolutely right. I've had that feeling about their relationship since the beginning. It only made it worse too that he asked her to tie her hair up like Ashley's "because it looked better".
After finishing the game and getting all the achievements, I have come to the conclusion that they are both victims of each other due to their toxic codependency, but they are victims of their mothers lack of parenting, making Andrew raise Ashley and messing both of them up.

Honestly, it gets exhausting seeing people portray Ashley as the big bad villain and that Andrew is somehow an innocent victim, like did we play the same game? Lol. Maybe some people are just in denial lmao. I think Ashley as a character is very misunderstood, people try to say she was born “evil” and how she is, but I disagree. She’s a “tar soul” but I think it’s good to unpack why that is. People seem to ignore the fact that Ashley is someone who’s been deeply hurt and treated as disposable by everyone around her except for Andrew, and she has had self esteem issues since she was a little girl, I mean the girl hates herself. She’s 20 when the game currently takes place, so she’s been struggling with that her entire life, that’s so heartbreaking and definitely debilitating to live with. It’s embedded in her at this point. When it comes to one’s mental wellbeing, it’s a combination of psychological, biological, and social factors. People will give Andrew a pass for every bad thing he’s done, but have 0 empathy for Ashley despite everything in her life going wrong since she was little. It’s easy for her to view people as disposable, but that’s because they did the exact same thing to her. It’s like a “they never cared about me, so why should I care about them?” mentality. Andrew is the only person/thing she cares about because really, he’s all she knows. We see this in the room before the questionable vision. When it comes to Julia and Andrew, respectfully, I can’t believe people think they should end up together. He was a terrible boyfriend to her and always put Ashley first. Julia deserves better than that, she did the right thing breaking up with him. Especially after the most recent progress report, it was obvious that Andrew asked her out because he knew she liked him and could use that to his advantage. He’s a manipulative mf! What’s interesting is that Ashley manipulates, or at least tries to, but she isn’t very good at it. I think about their fight in apartment 302 where she says she’s the only one who can make Andrew’s nightmares go away, he then says there are sleeping pills for that, she responds with “yeah okay, I got nothing”…. Like lol??? Girl didn’t even try. Not to mention he doesn’t have that many nightmares anyway, he uses it as an excuse to sleep next to her. Whenever Andrew tells Ashley something such as “you need to get your head checked”, “I don’t know what’s wrong with you”, “get help”. That’s literally just him projecting. That’s the thing about Andrew, he’s a really good liar, to everyone else and himself. Personally, I think people who reduce Ashley to a “hot psycho girl with mental illness” and basically fetishize her (unchecked) mental health issues that contribute to how she acts are tone deaf 🤷🏻♀️. Their whole dynamic is just a classic older sibling taking the blame of the younger sibling. Try seeing the Nina thing like as if they both accidentally dropped their parents’ priced vase, with Nina as the broken vase. Andy is more afraid of getting in trouble, if you see it this way it makes so much sense.
I think at the beginning everyone thought andrew was the victim at first, and when we went deeper into the story, i think we all realized that both arent victims, and that both are evily insane, if anything though they are still technically victims, their just victims of neglect.
I said this in another video but I've always felt like people cut Andrew way too much slack. I noticed a lot off with him like him faking night terrors to sleep next to Ashley and not really caring that he killed someone and was only worried about getting caught but there's some other things in this video I didn't notice until you said it. Well I suppose that makes sense. I'd still say there's some contradictory stuff within the game that insinuates that he does feel guilt at least for some things, and Ashley does indeed cause him a great amount of distress. Especially the act of cutting up and eating the neighbor, he did have a genuinely disgusted and repulsed reaction to what he was doing and clearly struggled doing so. Depending on the player choices, he does become less and less reactive to these types of things though. I would attribute that more to desensitization. I'd kinda categorize him as a half victim. Although he becomes less and less of a victim as the story progresses.
He never felt guilt he was merely acting to make himself seem "normal" throughout the game ot was clear he contradicted himself and he was the one who brought up the idea how to do all the crimes even giving Ashley tips on how to do it he's a clear sociopath and is good at hiding it that he fooled the players to believing he's less worse than Ashley but in fact he's way worse than her he was probably the first to develope incestuous feelings for Ashley that he knows he was not supposed to have.

@@CarrotSpunk. Well, kinda. Sociopaths often care very little for others, but I wouldn't necessarily outright label him as such. Definitely someone with some sociopathic tendencies though. Another thing to note was the process of cutting up the first cultist and eating him. In the moment, it was more of a genuinely sickened and disgusted by the act. He genuinely seemed deeply disturbed by what he was doing. However, it's very clear as the story progresses, and depending on some of the choices you make, that he becomes desensitized to these sorts of things and is obviously less bothered by them. Hell, I imagine you or I or anyone would probably start behaving similarly if circumstance led us to repeatedly doing things like that. Though it's definitely worth noting that Andrew adapts pretty damn quick. All in all I still think he is a victim in a few regards, but he's definitely no saint.
My ex is a guy like Andrew. Ofc not psycho-murder-level, but while watching a playthrough of the game he reminded me of him a lot in certain scenes. It still baffles me how uncaring a person can be. Deeply flawed people with the only thing keeping them together to the public eye being their intense worry for their image and the only thing preventing them from actually getting better being the absolute refusal to look in the mirror. At it's core, it's masking, really. Obsessed with fulfilling a role to cope with how much they actually aren't. Edit: I'm referring to how Andrew behaves as a person in general, NOT the fact he is in an incestuous relationship with his sister. Andy has three versions, one isn’t a bad guy (this is the one that kills or gets killed by Ashly) the other two version care about Lyly and he gets marked by the devil for it
I am not a fan of the game but it is funny how in movies and shows people think sympathetic is equal to being good. Nobody thinks of themselves as not a bad guy. And for most people they arent. However this is just convinving yourself you are aware of your flaws and to make sense of said flaws in a favorable light rather than for what they are. Life experience either changes you or reveals what you are deap down. However none of that justifies anything it just explains it. Most things in life have no excuses.

The fact that this is a psychological horror game, Andrew is likely fighting Trauma Bonding as Ashley since the Nina Incident, abused him, manipulated him and caused him a lot of trauma through the years. I feel he knows this in some way because of a couple dialogues in ep 2 "You push such a thought to the back of your mind as it may fester with other thoughts you wish you never had" In his head "(The very last thing I need is to grow fonder of that nightmare of a woman.)" Also with julia it says, "And the fact that it doesn't really bother you, bothers you." Maybe he really did like Julia but doesnt realize it currently? Going through abuse for that long with someone regardless of who they are can really mess you up in ways you didn't even think were possible.
Small theory that may or may not hold water(I didn't double check yet) of mine. Ashley wouldn't need to go through with incest if Andrew wasn't into incest himself. If Andrew wasn't into incest then the codependent relationship wouldn't have had the sex dream in it. If it was only Ashley who was into the incest then Andrew would have reacted like a normal human being and yk... Not participate in the way he did.
Yeah, unlike Andrew, Ashley has never showed any kind of sexual attraction in Andrew in her internal monologue. Imo, the reason why she acted flirty toward Andrew was because 1) she has never been teached personal boundaries and 2) She saw human as sex driven animal (she seems to think that the only good thing a woman can offer is sex and men will do literally anything for sex, this mindset probably came from R-rated movies that she's use to see when she was a child). So, she only acted like a nympho around Andrew bc she thinked Andrew would like it (he does, like, a lot). The dream only assure her that she can use sex as a tool to keep Andrew around.

I mean, there's always Julia! She's not the precious and pure angel a lot of players think of her as, but she is by far the kindest character in the game. Too kind for her own good, which is why Andrew abused her so easily for so long... In general, I don't think the game wants to have any purely good or purely bad characters. Everyone is charmingly human, whether that be sympathizing with Ashley and Andrew for the utter shitbag nutcases they are today, to the near-subtle implications that normal and nice girls like Julia and Nina could still be pretty selfish and self-centered without having to be bad people, to even the nameless and faceless NPCs just being really funny and memorable regardless of what they're doing.

Andrew is morally evil because of the fact that, regardless of whether she needs or wants it, he will do anything for Ashley including kill. But I think it's worth saying that while his love for Ashley is greater, he still has deep seated guilt for everything he does, as seen in his dream where he is literally haunted by those he killed. They are portrayed as scary and gory, and in the case of the cultist, greater than him. While on the other hand, in Ashley's dreams her victims are just small, pure souls who are 'cute' if anything. I believe this shows pretty clearly that Ashley does not feel anything close to the same horror over what she's done as Andrew does. So to sum it up: Is Andrew bad in his own right? Yes. Is Andrew as bad as Ashley? Absolutely not.
in short, I still don't believe that Andrew doesn't love Julia and Ashley is to blame for everything and the ending with her murder is correct and this video nothing means❤ (It's almost not even a joke😭)
Ashley literally summed it up in the scene where they're bagging up the cultist "I don't have the power to make you do anything, Andrew." There are so many subtle lines in the game that hit like a truck when you play it a second time.

After I watched this new released scene and compared it with the voice mails of Ashley in Andrew's dream, I'm wondering now: what if Andrew indeed never heared these voice mails but got just the informations from Julia, who just said that she received death threats? If that's true, then Andrew would be as much insane as Ashley because it would be his subcautious which created these threats in his mind.
With this new scene, I could even imagine that he did think these things.
I mean, Julia was just an annoyance and nothing but a tool for him to protect himself and his sister from the rumours.
So, maybe all these death threats where he thought that Ashley would have said that to Julia, are in fact nothing but his inner thoughts.
Like, that he hated or despised Julia so much because of her constant interference between him and Ashley.
It would mean that he is despised by her (Julia) deep down, unsatisfied and just wished that she would finally stop to bother him.
Andrew would in this case, even be on the same level as Ashley when it is about jealousy, obsession or possession.
The only difference would be, that he is manipulative enough to trick his environment into thinking that he is just a worried and carrying brother while in fact he is just someone who pretends to be normal.
He would be like a wolf in sheep's clothes.
From the outside, innocent, normal and calm.
But in the inside he is just cold and apathic to anyone but his sister.
A fullflesh sociopath without any real empathy for other people but Ashley.
Also if we choose the "Sane"-path in the Burial route, we can see that his soul is actual black.
So, maybe he is actually a tar soul too or worse, a black soul.
Someone who was never innocent/sane to begin with but someone who just acted to be normal and manipulated Ashley to become this brother obsessed sister she is.
The more I dwell on it, the more I realise Andrew is much, MUCH worse than Ashley. The fact that Mrs Graves of all people fell for his victim lie proves he is a manipulative mastermind. Part of his trick is allowing Ashley to believe she is a silly little girlboss who comes up with brilliant schemes to manipulate her brother, when in reality Andrew is getting exactly what he wants most of the time-he has specifically enabled Ashley so that he could groom her into being the scapegoat he needed her to be. Andrew's romantic fantasies of suicide pacts with Ashley (or if she refuses, outright murder-suicides) show that he is a million times more possessive than his sister could ever hope to be, but she's not acutely aware of this truth because Andrew didn't teach her to think like that: Andrew taught her that her insecurities are justified and that she must do terrible things to coerce him into staying.
As a result, Andrew has:
1). A convenient vessel to offload guilt for his sins
2). A convenient troublemaker always giving an excuse to be with her
3). A little sister whose self-esteem is so low that she absolutely hates herself and would do anything for him
One thing we need to understand is that Ashley isn't delusional. Yes, she's wrong about needing to 'coerce' Andrew, but it's a rational conclusion based on how her parents and more importantly Andrew raised her. Furthermore, she isn't some sociopathic agent of destruction, because her dismissal of people is always a retaliation against perceived betrayals: "Nina wants to take my brother away from me", "My friends didn't bother to bring us food, so I don't care about them", "Julia wants to take my brother away from me", "Mum and dad sold us out".
Andrew on the other hand is a lunatic! He didn't need to take revenge on Nina or the 302 girl! But deeper-running than that is Andrew's obsession with normalcy, which is really what makes him bonkers. Recall when Andrew looks at his dad in the basement and thinks to himself: "He has always been like that. Just going along with your mother's whims. It hits you then, that you are just like him.........Goddamit." Hah... HE IS WRONG! He wants to believe he's a regular guy caught up by dark interlopers, but Andrew is in fact his MOTHER'S analogue and their eye colours demonstrate this: Dad and Ashley's eyes are pink, whereas Mum and Andrew's eyes are green-Andrew has the same vision as his mother, literally and figuratively. Andrew has ALWAYS held the cards; he's just convinced Ashley, the world, and maybe even himself that he's under her thumb and not the other way around.
I'm not saying the parents share zero responsibility for the state of Ashley - and I doubt she was ever going to be totally normal -but Andrew has always had the power and opportunity to "fix" her. She's always going to be an edgy brocon, but Burial (so far) proves that she can mellow out as long as Andrew isn't transactional with her or otherwise screwing with her head.
TL;DR Andrew gaslit Ashley into thinking she can gaslight him, which lets Andrew live a lie.

He exclaims that Ashley wanted to eat the officer but like you said, she just said that she was hungry and made a comment about the blood and corpse of the officer.
She only followed Andrew's idea when he suggested it, as she was hungry herself and worried about Andrew.
About Nina, he could refuse the idea to support Ashley's revenge on her.
He had even the possibility to say "That's enough Ashley, she will die at this point. Also you got your revenge." but he didn't.
Instead he agreed and locked her into the chest and I assume that he did it, to hide how awful he and Ashley are.
Also, he says that Ashley "doesn't behave" but if I look back and now where I read your comment, I realize that this is crap which he made up.

Yeah, sometimes she teased him a bit and joked around but in the end she followed Andrew's wishes.
When Nina died, she never talked about it. She even nearly erased out of her mind, as she couldn't remember how her face looked like or what her name was.

First, I also thought that Andrew is similar to his father. But that is nonsense. Ashley follows his whims not the other way around.

Your theory brings me to a new theory:
What if the reason for Ashley's wish to get "Andy" back is, that she somehow believes that she would get this "innocent" part of him back?
Like, that she thinks, if both of them become childish again, that their innocent, healthy sibling world will turn back too?
I mean, one of Ashley's complains in Chapter 1 was, that Andrew doesn't spend time with her like he did in the past.
Maybe she thinks that, if "Andy" returns, then she will get a non-stop loving and caring again and sheself can become a little sister again who enjoys the company of her big brother and spend time with him like they did in the past.

Well ima be honest, I think Andrew and Ashley the same, Andrew is heavily corrupted by his family, he lived in a dark environment just like her. I suppose all he knew was being nice and protective to his sister and that's all. The one who is responsible for this is his mother, she raised him like this, he can not just be bornt like this.
Also, living under the same roof and environment, sharing the same feeling (although Andrew was treated slightly better but still bad) with Ashley, you'll know one thing is that a victim is very protective to the other one cuz he doesn't wish to see his sister to suffer the way he does. Andrew is two years older than his sister that does mean he lived with his horrible parents longer and suffered more than his sister did, also they were kids so he didn't know what to do but making his sister happy cuz he didn't want to see her sadness. And If you're wondering why was he seemed so normal when he was young, well he might has been just wearing a mask which keeps him from hurting everyone else, a kid is heavily corrupted by his parents usually try to protect everyone from himself. Cuz he'll be very hurtful seeing his friends being corrupted just like him. A corrupted child like young Andy doesn't know much about the world and only aim to one thing is not hurting everyone else. That's totally normal and very easy to happen to children who , ngl.
Leyley is extremely corrupted too, a child like Andy would prioritize the child who suffered the same way he did, especially his sibling. But maybe due to her loneliness and hard to make friends, she unintentionally pushed Andy to kill Nina. Even a normal person feels bad for killing another person, a corrupted child like Andy would possibly felt many times worse for what he did cuz it's against his ambition for not hurting other people. I suppose his stone-cold personalities and attitudes we see in the game are due to the thing I said above.
I've seen many people said that Andrew is only using Ashley to have s*x with him, I'm not sure about. I think the chance of him using Ashley as a puppet is extremely low but the chance of him making his sister happy is very high,cuz that's how it goes just as long as he is not controlled by a devil. Many viewers think Andy is a bad person cuz he could have stopped Leyley from doing bad things but he chose not to, well I don't think so cuz his mind was not pure back then due to his parents' horribleness. Children are fragile and vulnerable, we can blame on him like that. I can say that the more vulnerable Andy was in the past, the colder Andrew is, I suppose Leyley was tough back then so they see Ashley as a person who is not as bad as her brother. I disagree about Ashley is better than Andrews, Ashley simply hasn't been suffering the way Andrew has.

Thing to remember about the voicemails: Andrew never heard them (when he confronts Ashley, he goes "so it really was you" , indicating he still had to confirm it.)
So when we hear them in his dream, it's essentially his subconscious speaking with Ashley's voice. Meaning most of what is said is true on some level.

@@leamon_3 Worse than nothing, in his flashback of Julia, we see him dismiss Ashley's behavior. If he knew exactly what was going on, he was defending his sister when she was actively harming his girlfriend, and basically tried to make the later feel guilty for even bringing it up to him.
So basically, Andrew will do anything his sister wants, but acts like he won't, and Ashley knows that she can make him do whatever she wants and uses it for her own benefit

I’ve always thought that Andrew never liked Julia mostly because of how he pictures her as a way to kiss/ *ahem* fuck *ahem* someone who could resemble his sister without it being Ashley because it’s frowned upon obviously. After the newest Devlog with Andrew and Julia this only further proves my point because it’s clear he asked Julia out only after hearing about these rumors. Therefore he’s only dating Julia because he clearly cares about his own self image not only with his (what would be) criminal record but to others as well. I honestly think you're absolutely right. I've had that feeling about their relationship since the beginning. It only made it worse too that he asked her to tie her hair up like Ashley's "because it looked better".
After finishing the game and getting all the achievements, I have come to the conclusion that they are both victims of each other due to their toxic codependency, but they are victims of their mothers lack of parenting, making Andrew raise Ashley and messing both of them up.

Honestly, it gets exhausting seeing people portray Ashley as the big bad villain and that Andrew is somehow an innocent victim, like did we play the same game? Lol. Maybe some people are just in denial lmao.
I think Ashley as a character is very misunderstood, people try to say she was born “evil” and how she is, but I disagree. She’s a “tar soul” but I think it’s good to unpack why that is. People seem to ignore the fact that Ashley is someone who’s been deeply hurt and treated as disposable by everyone around her except for Andrew, and she has had self esteem issues since she was a little girl, I mean the girl hates herself. She’s 20 when the game currently takes place, so she’s been struggling with that her entire life, that’s so heartbreaking and definitely debilitating to live with. It’s embedded in her at this point. When it comes to one’s mental wellbeing, it’s a combination of psychological, biological, and social factors.
People will give Andrew a pass for every bad thing he’s done, but have 0 empathy for Ashley despite everything in her life going wrong since she was little. It’s easy for her to view people as disposable, but that’s because they did the exact same thing to her. It’s like a “they never cared about me, so why should I care about them?” mentality. Andrew is the only person/thing she cares about because really, he’s all she knows. We see this in the room before the questionable vision.
When it comes to Julia and Andrew, respectfully, I can’t believe people think they should end up together. He was a terrible boyfriend to her and always put Ashley first. Julia deserves better than that, she did the right thing breaking up with him. Especially after the most recent progress report, it was obvious that Andrew asked her out because he knew she liked him and could use that to his advantage. He’s a manipulative mf!
What’s interesting is that Ashley manipulates, or at least tries to, but she isn’t very good at it. I think about their fight in apartment 302 where she says she’s the only one who can make Andrew’s nightmares go away, he then says there are sleeping pills for that, she responds with “yeah okay, I got nothing”…. Like lol??? Girl didn’t even try. Not to mention he doesn’t have that many nightmares anyway, he uses it as an excuse to sleep next to her.
Whenever Andrew tells Ashley something such as “you need to get your head checked”, “I don’t know what’s wrong with you”, “get help”. That’s literally just him projecting. That’s the thing about Andrew, he’s a really good liar, to everyone else and himself.
Personally, I think people who reduce Ashley to a “hot psycho girl with mental illness” and basically fetishize her (unchecked) mental health issues that contribute to how she acts are tone deaf 🤷🏻♀️. The reason/s she acts the way she does is genuinely so sad. I can’t stand people who fetishize mental illness in general, but that’s not what this comment is about lol.
When it comes to both Ashley and Andrew, they were both dealt a bad hand in life. They are both flawed individuals. Their parents failed them, they both have unchecked mental health issues, but it’s not their fault. The sad reality is they were never really going to have a “normal” life.

Bro this is literally the first time I ever seen somebody actually understanding Andrew as a character
Their whole dynamic is just a classic older sibling taking the blame of the younger sibling. Try seeing the Nina thing like as if they both accidentally dropped their parents’ priced vase, with Nina as the broken vase. Andy is more afraid of getting in trouble, if you see it this way it makes so much sense.
I think at the beginning everyone thought andrew was the victim at first, and when we went deeper into the story, i think we all realized that both arent victims, and that both are evily insane, if anything though they are still technically victims, their just victims of neglect.
I said this in another video but I've always felt like people cut Andrew way too much slack. I noticed a lot off with him like him faking night terrors to sleep next to Ashley and not really caring that he killed someone and was only worried about getting caught but there's some other things in this video I didn't notice until you said it. So yeah they are both human trash.
It’s probably not new-new but 😂 the clip of Julia talking to Andrew about the rumors. It’s never been more obvious how much Andrew does not care about other people or rumors. He just doesn’t want to bother by other people . I have a feeling that throughout all of school. Andrew chased many people away from Ashley, unless they were harmless girls.

Well I suppose that makes sense. I'd still say there's some contradictory stuff within the game that insinuates that he does feel guilt at least for some things, and Ashley does indeed cause him a great amount of distress. Especially the act of cutting up and eating the neighbor, he did have a genuinely disgusted and repulsed reaction to what he was doing and clearly struggled doing so. Depending on the player choices, he does become less and less reactive to these types of things though. I would attribute that more to desensitization. I'd kinda categorize him as a half victim. Although he becomes less and less of a victim as the story progresses.
He never felt guilt he was merely acting to make himself seem "normal" throughout the game ot was clear he contradicted himself and he was the one who brought up the idea how to do all the crimes even giving Ashley tips on how to do it he's a clear sociopath and is good at hiding it that he fooled the players to believing he's less worse than Ashley but in fact he's way worse than her he was probably the first to develope incestuous feelings for Ashley that he knows he was not supposed to have.
He was only concerned about the consequences of his actions but not the crime itself.
He does feel some guilt over Nina's death. It seems he does care if the person he killed was someone he cared about. But he's still messed up.

@@CarrotSpunk. Well, kinda. Sociopaths often care very little for others, but I wouldn't necessarily outright label him as such. Definitely someone with some sociopathic tendencies though.
Another thing to note was the process of cutting up the first cultist and eating him. In the moment, it was more of a genuinely sickened and disgusted by the act. He genuinely seemed deeply disturbed by what he was doing. However, it's very clear as the story progresses, and depending on some of the choices you make, that he becomes desensitized to these sorts of things and is obviously less bothered by them. Hell, I imagine you or I or anyone would probably start behaving similarly if circumstance led us to repeatedly doing things like that. Though it's definitely worth noting that Andrew adapts pretty damn quick. All in all I still think he is a victim in a few regards, but he's definitely no saint.

Alright, there's no doubt Ashley's crazy, but within a different sense, Andrew ain't much better. Point Being: I agree with you.
My ex is a guy like Andrew. Ofc not psycho-murder-level, but while watching a playthrough of the game he reminded me of him a lot in certain scenes. It still baffles me how uncaring a person can be. Deeply flawed people with the only thing keeping them together to the public eye being their intense worry for their image and the only thing preventing them from actually getting better being the absolute refusal to look in the mirror.
At it's core, it's masking, really. Obsessed with fulfilling a role to cope with how much they actually aren't.
Edit: I'm referring to how Andrew behaves as a person in general, NOT the fact he is in an incestuous relationship with his sister. You don't have to be attracted to your sister to act like a d*ck or show similarities to his personality.

@@myon9431 funnily, yes, although he should be 23 by now and she is maybe 14? 15? Idk exactly, but they have a big age gap and she is definitely still a minor and was barely a teenager when he and I were together (that was 2 to 3 years ago).

I love how everyone calls Ashley a "manipulative mistake" but when you look at it in a way everything she does can't really be considered "manipulation". I'm not a simp or anything(i'm a straight girl) but seriously, she did in fact not kill the warden, It was Andrew and only Andrew. They needed to eat the cultist. Yes she did push him into murdering the girl in the box but like when you're a kid you don't go as far as thinking "damn maybe she'll die if I do this sht this is WRONG" especially when you grow up in a toxic household where all of this is normalized. As for their parents what she did was wrong but like I said she grew up in an environment where all of this was normalized and her parents basically led ti her decay so OBVIOUSLY she'd hate them. And if you're gonna say "ya but Andrew grew up with the same family but isn't messed up blablablabla". First of all Andrew wasn't neglected that much so they did teach him a thing or two about what's right or wrong, and second of all wake up to reality because he is INFACT very messed up AND is the incestous one(and Ashley might not even know why incest is wrong). Of course she's still a terrible person and all but she's not "pUrE eViL" like a lot of people say, she's not broken either she was just kinda "raised" like that

Well ima be honest, I think They're the same, Andrew is heavily corrupted by his family, he lived in a dark environment just like her. And have you ever wondered how a very young kid can clearly know all about making a plan to do such thing, I suppose all he knew was being nice and protective to his sister and that's all. The one who is responsible for this is his mother, she raised him like this, he can not just be bornt like this.
Also, living under the same roof and environment, sharing the same feeling (although Andrew was treated slightly better but still bad) with Ashley, you'll know one thing is that an older victim is very protective to the younger one cuz he doesn't wish to see his sister suffers the way he does. Andrew is two years older than his sister that does mean he suffered more than his sister did, also they were kids so he didn't know what to do but making his sister happy cuz he didn't want to see her sadness. And If you're wondering why was he seemed so normal when he was young, well he was just wearing a mask which keeps him from hurting everyone else, when a kid is heavily corrupted, he'll try protecting others. Cuz he'll be very hurtful seeing his friends being corrupted just like him, he'll also see him as a threat. A corrupted child like Andy (not Andrew) doesn't know much about the world but he's very thoughtful and pure to Leyley, a child like him would prioritize the child who suffered the same way he did. That's naturally inevitable.
So here we are,
*Living in bad environment + Horrible parents + suffering too much = wanting to protect his sister
*Wanting to protect his sister + corrupted sister + killing people to make his sister smile = driving him insane => making him do such bad things.
He is not evil, he's corrupted.
The difference between their attractions for each other is that Andrew is ashamed of it

I am not a fan of the game but it is funny how in movies and shows people think sympathetic is equal to being good.
Nobody thinks of themselves as not a bad guy. And for most people they arent. However this is just convinving yourself you are aware of your flaws and to make sense of said flaws in a favorable light rather than for what they are. Life experience either changes you or reveals what you are deap down. However none of that justifies anything it just explains it.
Most things in life have no excuses.

The fact that this is a psychological horror game, Andrew is likely fighting Trauma Bonding as Ashley since the Nina Incident, abused him, manipulated him and caused him a lot of trauma through the years. I feel he knows this in some way because of a couple dialogues in ep 2

Ashley wouldn't need to go through with incest if Andrew wasn't into incest himself. If Andrew wasn't into incest then the codependent relationship wouldn't have had the sex dream in it. If it was only Ashley who was into the incest then Andrew would have reacted like a normal human being and yk... Not participate in the way he did.
Yeah, unlike Andrew, Ashley has never showed any kind of sexual attraction in Andrew in her internal monologue. Imo, the reason why she acted flirty toward Andrew was because 1) she has never been teached personal boundaries and 2) She saw human as sex driven animal (she seems to think that the only good thing a woman can offer is sex and men will do literally anything for sex, this mindset probably came from R-rated movies that she's use to see when she was a child). So, she only acted like a nympho around Andrew bc she thinked Andrew would like it (he does, like, a lot). The dream only assure her that she can use sex as a tool to keep Andrew around.

I mean, there's always Julia! She's not the precious and pure angel a lot of players think of her as, but she is by far the kindest character in the game. Too kind for her own good, which is why Andrew abused her so easily for so long... In general, I don't think the game wants to have any purely good or purely bad characters. Everyone is charmingly human, whether that be sympathizing with Ashley and Andrew for the utter shitbag nutcases they are today, to the near-subtle implications that normal and nice girls like Julia and Nina could still be pretty selfish and self-centered without having to be bad people, to even the nameless and faceless NPCs just being really funny and memorable regardless of what they're doing.

Andrew is morally evil because of the fact that, regardless of whether she needs or wants it, he will do anything for Ashley including kill. But I think it's worth saying that while his love for Ashley is greater, he still has deep seated guilt for everything he does, as seen in his dream where he is literally haunted by those he killed. They are portrayed as scary and gory, and in the case of the cultist, greater than him. While on the other hand, in Ashley's dreams her victims are just small, pure souls who are 'cute' if anything. I believe this shows pretty clearly that Ashley does not feel anything close to the same horror over what she's done as Andrew does.
So to sum it up:
Is Andrew bad in his own right? Yes.
Is Andrew as bad as Ashley? Absolutely not.
