- Former NBA star Vince Carter sits down with Taylor Rooks for exclusive interview to discuss being voted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, how he feels about "ring culture" in basketball, the lack of quality veterans on NBA rosters, and how he tried to help Carmelo Anthony early in his career. He also explains why Kobe deserves to be in the GOAT conversation, why he thinks he would beat MJ in a dunk contest, the crazy dunk contest idea featuring LeBron and T-Mac that never happened, responds to critics who questioned his work ethic, recalls how Kobe helped prepare him for retirement and opens up about his relationship with the Raptors.

Kobe respected Vince big time ... He witnessed Vince dominate in high school, and in their early days in the NBA.
Amazing interview. Loved how he talked about how that convo with Kobe brought him peace as he entered retirement.
I don’t question his work ethic. I think in his prime years, his motor just got questioned in those waining years in Toronto. He’d come back to a chorus of boos and drop 50 + a game winner after leaving averaging 16. Nonetheless, he’s the greatest dunker of all time, an elite scorer and you can’t tell the story of basketball without mentioning Vince Carter. And he changed basketball in Canada forever. And he was clutch.
Facts
He was never the same after his knee injury. That's the real reason he slowed down
Don't forget about the injuries and also u need to highlight that he didn't have a team in Toronto and plus there were lots of stuffs going on behind the scenes with the higher ups
@@safeman5383 yeah time heals all and whatnot. I’m just saying that’s where his motor first got questioned because he went to Jersey and started dropping 20+ again and always played his best ball against the city that hated him. I think it tarnished his reputation a bit until he became a journeyman and sort of created a new identity. But through all that he was still clutch, an Allstar and undeniable talent. He’s arguably Top 75 worthy. Definitely Top 100.
So many variables the season he was traded: new coaching philosophy under Sam Mitchell, rebuild and play centered around Bosh and araujo, played 95% at SG than his usual SF position, then played with Jason Kidd and relied on the go to player again.
Fun fact: Despite reduced points, Carter’s block, steal, and turnover percentage were better that season as a Raptor before he was traded than as a Net, and were among the best numbers in his career.
I was legit looking up Vince interviews and this was uploaded 15 minutes ago lol
Vince easily is a top 5 talent he had all the skills and there wasn't anything he couldn't do
Watching Vince dunk in the 90's and early 2000's was like watching MJ dunk in the 80's and early 90's. Congrats on the HOF legend.
This man is humble. Changed the game in the 2000’s.
37:49 he starts talking about "work ethic"
legend
The greatest dunker of all time is definitely Hall Of Fame worthy. Love watching VC do interviews, you can tell how kind and great of a person he is and how much he loves the game of basketball 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Calling a man who played 22 years in the league lazy is just disrespect smh.
Work ethic

Facts bro! Preach!
All facts 💯
Coming from Sanford, Fl having played at Lake Mary high school I missed playing against Vince when he played against what would be my hs a couple years later (I was in eighth grade). Those back home in central FL in particular Daytona Beach knew (intuition) that that skinny guy who was the drum major in mainland high school’s band. He would go on to do great things with that round ball. 🫡 to you Vince Carter!! Thank you and thanks to your father for contributing to those midnight basketball runs around central FL. You repped those who couldn’t fulfill their dreams.
The Olympic slam dunk over the 7ft center in a game was enough to put him in the Hall of Fame. He could literally dunk over every one in the Hall of Fame
The dude wasn’t 7ft lol
Definitely deserves to be in the hall. Anyone who says otherwise, honestly stop watching bball
I don’t think he belongs and I will still watch bball. Look at his numbers his last 11 years , he was terrible and was a role player. That’s not hall of fame.
Dude is a bum today never won anything.
He was a terrible player lol
@@AlwayzFresha terrible player? You’re just hating at this point , your fat and talking shi. Stop it
23:59 is when he starts talking bout Kobe… imma start listening to Vince more often
legend you are
Vince carter and Tracy mcgrady got me into basketball
N a.i
The truth is he was never the same after his knee injuries. He had a big one in 2002 and another 2007 And im sure he had injuries between those dates, but can't remember. I know he had more injuries later in his career.
His work ethic was always there, the injuries derailed his career
And It’s sad because he got those injuries shouldering the offensive load on those teams for nets and raptors….If he had a dominant Big Man which was needed in that era to win he would have had a better chance to keep from injuries..Only casuals dont all the nuance’s that affected Vince’s career

"I GOT ONE MORE IN ME"😂 How did Taylor not ask him about that meme? And the fight he allegedly had with Sam Mitchell.🤣As a Kobe fan, I always love seeing his peers put him in the GOAT conversation, where he belongs.
Greatest Dunker In NBA History!!
Did JJ Berea die?
Of course
You forgot Wilkins
Definitely deserving of being a Hall of Famer. I honestly think being in the Hall is much better than winning a ring, because there was a lot of people who won a ring and ended up being unrecognized by so many people. If a person in the Hall many people will see their name and remember him or her as a legend. Not just in the NBA, basketball in general.
Half man, Half Amazing! Well deserved VC! VC 4 Threeeeeee!
I wish Carter was the way he talked about kobe. If he did, he would be considered one of the greatest of all time
Taylor Is fine ❤
Gilbert needs to shut up.
Gilbert comes across as a hater for clickbait but he isn't fully 100% wrong. VC is the reason i got into basketball and my favorite all time player. But in his prime, after maybe Year 3, and injuries played a part, I wouldn't say he had a crazy offseason work ethic (same with JVG saying TMac was a bad practice player). Grant Hill flat out said this guy was eating chocolate chip cookies on the plane. JKidd definitely helped him when he first got traded to NJ cuz he didn't want to look lazy next to that guy. And I would say in his Dallas years he started taking training, stretching, offseason stuff much more seriously.
@@jlewlew2160 lol u were in there ? Were u in the practice facilities with him ? Get the f out of here
exactly talking bout vince as if gilbert mediocre as career is note worthy

More than deserved my man, Goat dunker. You a legend...and legends belongs to the HOF.
He's a class A person
42:25 about that work ethic it's a misused phrase. The right one should be the hunger and the killer mentality. VC is full of love not hunger for it.
Vince Carter was amazing!
Vince Vince Vince
much Love !!!!
hope championship teams hire him as an assistant coach or trainer. damn I hope he gets one ring just for what he did to the game.
Legend
Vince Carter had lot of injuries which factored in. He had to miss a shit ton of games. Pretty hard to improve when you are constantly rehabbing injuries.
Congrats to Vince
Vince Carter, Allen Iverson, Shaq, Kobe, T Mac, Dirk, Duncan, KG ... I miss that generation. So many names that were all equal competition to each other and giving each other their best day in and day out.. what a golden generation of talent with a strong competitive mindset.
[VINCE KOBE TMAC] - GOATS
He is an incredibly well-spoken guy
This guy is one of the best ever! A true GOAT!
Looking forward to seeing T-Mac in his HOF jacket induct Vince.
My favorite basketball player ever. ❤️
Why is this woman so fine that shit really defy logic
Time stamps please
Vince Carter is my favorite basketball player The 🐐.
This was deep. Whole new meaning to life
If you can convince me that you can tell the story and history of BASKETBALL without mentioning Vince Carter, I’ll believe your fight against his induction into the Hall Of Fame! Let me give you a hint, YOU CAN’T! IT’S OVER!!!!!!! The wait IS OVER!!!! You Go Vince
I like her she lets people talk and doesn't interrupt them while they are talking 🤔
Taylor Rooks damn good interview and i need more and just her this is great content and she sounds knowledgeable and nice
Very deserving❤. The one and only VC❤
Vince you Shuda use that time for a coach position… RJ snuck one In Cleveland
Great way to ask that question 38min in
His best games were in toronto he play alone there ...in nets he come one year late if he come 2001 he would won title with nets he come when Dallas won title year before he deserved to be champion
His best dunk Sydney 2000 jump over french player
Besides Jordan,Kobe,Clyde drexler and Dominique Wilkins one of the Best Dunkers ever!!!
Dr J, Kemp
My favorite player to watch, congrats on the HOF.. Vince was a real showman he played to entertain and boy I was entertained not just with the dunks but he had it all.. handles, post ups, lay ups, deep 3s and mid range
I’ve been sleeping on this PC, this host is gorgeous and great at her job!
Miss Taylor 😊
Anyone know the time stamp for the kobe story?
there's an earlier one but the one you want is at 43:50 and on
he also says, if not for the covid shutdown, his last nba game would have been april 10, 2020 (he doesn't say the date but i looked it up) in toronto
@@CharlesFristians Good lookin out

Bro got the same voice as Jimmy Butler
Without Vince, the Raptors would have probably gone the same way as the Vancouver Grizzles.
Vince's exploits carved a niche market for Basketball not only in Toronto but in Canada. Raptors became a national Canadian team with the departure of the Grizzlers.
Long live Vince Carter AKA Air Canada,!!
Disagree. Raptors would have continued on because ownership was strong and the hardcore fanbase was very loyal.
⛹🏾♂️Vince Carter’s the 🐐 .. it was very much deserved 💯Congratulations To Him! 🙌🏻🎉🏀
If Vince had a better team around him, everyone would be having a different conversation. Kobe with the hornets would have still been good but not the Kobe we got with the Lakers
Why you act like that Nets team Vince joined was garbage truck juice he also underperformed in route to the ECF with the Orlando Magic. He had some squads
@@TheKidwondaThe nets were garbage they had no frontline, bench, or hall of fame coach, they traded that whole Nets Finals team away and Kenyon signed with Denver…and that Orlando Magic team was a disaster waiting to happen Dwight wanted more touches and not improving his fundamentals and Jameer Nelson shot them out of every game..
@@ltri-fehl2955 so it sounds like you’re letting Vince off the hook for avg 15 ppg on 40% FG shooting and 23.5% 3pt shooting in the 2010 playoffs…is that what I’m seeing just want some clarification
@@TheKidwonda If u wanna go there we can get technical I wasnt talking about a specific playoffs u seem so keen on…But they swept their way to the ECF 8-0 that year…Stan Van Gundy changed up his system to feed Dwight the ball in the post which was stupid and they were winning with Vince and Jameer ball handling in pick n rolls the whole playoffs…Vince played atrocious because of countless times having to play hero ball to bail out the offense late in the shot clock, instead of running plays for him and sitting on the 3 pt line like he was Rashad Lewis or Michael Pietrus…That was a total team collapse and most coaching issue…Also there is a podcast where Vince teammates Matt Barnes and JJ redick talks about this as well
@@ltri-fehl2955 you do realize the stats I gave you was for the entire postseason run that season not just the ECF.
Taylor 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Will Vince ever coach a team ???
5:00 NEVER DO THAT VINCE CARTER You are a Hall of Famer.I hate that he didn't win a championship game They cheated blood still a Great still a Hall of FAMER. And alot of great players didn't get a ring but they wasn't great as VINCE CARTER.
He is an underachiever given his talent
So...what are you doing after the interview?

She looks good 👍.
Is Vince wearing all black 90's? Bruh, those are my everyday's 😭😱
Respect vc
Kobe’s the goat
Stoped watching nba after Vince's retirement..
Vince should join Hawks in 2001 summer.Raptors bad management
Dude could play another season easy
Vince Carter is iconic as a Dunker but as a player he was a superstar but not a Great like kobe, Duncan , Pierce because he didn't win a 🏆the same like Melo,CP3,Tmac, Iverson
He had an ok work ethic but not a killer instinct like Kobe. He wanted to be friends with everyone, not destroy them. As he got older, he had to get a better work ethic out of necessity because he could not rely on his natural talent as much. I also think he was more interested in longevity than in trying too hard one season and burning out. I think he learned the hard way about pushing yourself too hard when he got injured on the Raptors.
💎
TARHEEL !!!!
Work ethic ?? Lazy?? Those words will not be thrown at him if he won a ring. Do you know what he dont have? HE DOESNT HAVE A TEAM TO BACK UP HIS TALENT HE PLAYED IN AN ERA WHERE BIGMAN IS DOMINANT he had NENAD KRISTIC at new jersey and antonio davis in raptors and to compete against kobe they are more like even head to head match up the difference was kobe had SHAQ!!!
Before I watch, is this a real untold Kobe story or another rehash of some other story out there from Vince’s side?
43:50 mark and on
Don't know don't care. Vince is enough
Thank you @@CharlesFristians
t mac in the hall?
better not be
You're late he's been in for years and noone can change that
T Mac has a legacy other than ditching teams.
gilbert talking junk bout bc and hating is funny asf, gil talks like he was some great hall of famer his career was mediocre at best
All Star and All NBA is not mediocre 😂
@@silewis9396 how many times 🤔, and name the other accolades pretty mediocre
Kobe had 6 future Hall of Famers on a team and could not win. Kobe lost to the Pistons. Kobe was a byproduct of the LAKERS. Tim Duncan same amount of rings in a smaller market
Wife material?
If vince plays great against Boston in 2010 the magic get back to the finals that series for me is still a mystery vince just didn't show up
Matt Barnes talks about this on all the smoke with JJ Redick and VC. SVG panicked cuz Boston was a veteran team and changed the entire offensive scheme before Game 1. VC missing the free throws in Game 2 definitely hurt. But check Dwight and Rashard Lewis's numbers in that series.
The Magic were the best team in the league coming from the all star week-end BY FAR, they were like 41-8 into that matchup with Boston, and they all were just unrecognizable these 6 games, gotta love earing what SVG has to say about that
@@vincentgasparri They went away from steady high pick and rolls and went to Dwight in the low post....for literally no reason.
Dawg celtics defense was crazy that year one of the best of all time remember that they eliminated lebron while the year before he was averaging 37 he finished with 26 pts a game don't forget that fact and Vince was kinda past his prime
He's trash that's why
He had all the skills ..just not the mindset to be a killa .. I dont think he liked being the #1 option..better #2 ..less pressure I think ..h.o.f is borderline to me...but I understand..Chauncey Billups should.NOT BE...
Mannnnnn you dont know Chauncey. Dude was amazing.
People have to understand that Kobe and his work ethic only existed because Kobe knew that he sucked in comparison to the other guys in the early 2000s. Its not a knock on Kobe. Kobes mindset elevated him into who he was. The other players were already dogs and truly had more talent than Kobe. These players werent lazy, they were just on amother level skill wise. Kobe was playing catch up to these dudes. Kids wanted to be more like Iverson, VC, KG, TMac, etc because those were the dogs of the league that were carrying their teams and the NBA. Kobe had no choice but to be obsessed with working hard because all of those players were busting the Lakers ass and had the staples center buzzing everytime they came to town. The God given talent that existed in the early 2000s was off the chain. Kobe came into the league thinking shit was sweet since he had flare and the league was pushing the Jordan narrative. He found out quick that there were plenty of other players that could easily put 50 on his head.
Stop
we think its a black thang.... dis whole hall shit
This girl is so cokd?
He coulda been great to bad he quit on the raptors
This guy quit on the Raptors and faked numerous injuries in order to force a trade. It was disgraceful and I’m glad he never won a championship
Bum
Canadian here, most of us can't stand Vince carter. He hated Canada while he was a popular player. Now that nobody cares about him, he wants our Nations support. Bum.
Speak for yourself. As a true Raptors fan, it was embarrassing to be around VC haters that just fed off of hack sports media that knew nothing about bball and hated that it was a better product than the Leafs. None of you held bad front office and coaching accountable. Only saw the hack headlines/narrative and fell for it. LOL
"most of us" aren't sitting around in our mom's basement playing video games brother lmao
I have no respect for Wince Carter and never will. Waste of talent and a caterer.
