WE3 hatched by 04:10, the chick is still a bit tired and weak. They may need a bit more time to be able to hold the head up consistently.
WE1 is being quite aggressive with WE2 and WE3. Hopefully this aggression will taper off soon: this nest has raised triplets many times. Historically, singling rivalry on this nest has been quite low.
Bonking or Sibling rivalry is a behavior that can be frequently observed in bald eagles and other birds. It serves to establish the pecking (feeding) order and hierarchy within the brood. More dominant eaglets tend to eat first, while smaller ones wait for their turn or invent other ways to get fed: walk around and use parents as a barrier, take advantage of “tandem” feedings and “private” feedings while older chicks are in food comas.
It appears that stress is one of the main drivers of the behavior. When food is plentiful, brooding and parental nest attendance is high, and there are no other external stressors (presence of predators, warning calls from parents), sibling rivalry is often reduced to totally harmless (and sometimes entertaining) bonking.
🐥WE1 hatched 3/9 by 03:00, WE1 hatched 3/9 by 19:00, WE3 hatched 3/12 by 04:10.
🥚Egg1 laid on 1/30 15:39, Egg2 and Egg3 were laid while the cam was offline.
Resident male since 2019: A-61 Akecheta, hatched in 2016 in the Los Pinos territory, Santa Cruz Island. Parents: A-51 and A-45
Resident female since 2013: K-91 Thunder, hatched in 2009 in the Two Harbors territory, Santa Catalina Island. Parents: K-82 Cholyn and K-81 Chase.
The original historic nest has been in continued use since 1991 (although first eagle nesting sightings go back to 1920s). The new alt nest was first used in 2023.

The bonking will run its course. Thunder and Akecheta are ver.y good parents and raise healthy fledglings. These three babies are a blessing.
Its refreshing watching 3 babies after losing the big bear eggs. My other 2 nests were single hatchlings. Thankyou ❤
I've watched Thunder and Chet at West End for awhile now. A couple years back, there were 3. One was a bully. The runt took FOREVER to fledge but all 3 successfully fledged.
Tho I do agree, nature can be very difficult to witness.
The runt you're referring to was actually the 2nd to hatch. The 1st to fledge was the 3rd hatch.. And food was plentiful. It was a great season.
It’s all part of natures process, eagles instinctively learn to fight, steal for food, especially when they are starving and on their own 🐣🐥
They are adorable but it disturbs me when the dominant one bullies the other two. How can they all get equally fed when this goes on?
I love how gentle mamma is 🥰🥰
It critical that the parents feed each of them until full. The oldest one has to fed into a food coma so the others can get their fill too.
Awwww 🥰🥰🥰 This is stage when they are at their absolute cutest imo
Amazing how close the cam zooms! 🤩
I wish there were bobble heads for Jackie and Shadow 💔
Meee two, to, too!
Me three!! ❤️❤️
Hopefully the bonking does not get out of hand and the Eagle parents feed them at the same time so they all get to eat some fish.🥰they are adorable.
Amazing to see this and much love and luck for the 3 chicks; great history on these birds and the use of the nest.
was hoping a food coma would kick-in for #1 eating...fiesty with other 2 for bobbing for food!
Uh oh 😱 I hope the chicky isn't gonna be greedy 😢
They have to get fed until they are full. If they don't #1 will most definitely continue. I have faith mom and dad will work this all out.. it's hard to watch. I watched the national geographic on eaglets and it's that harsh reality. Most live streams don't talk about it and then it makes it hard for people to understand. Parents also don't intervene because to them, strongest will need to survive to make it out there. ❤
Hi there, Blackhawk friend 🙂 You're so right with what you say. I'm sorry for the newbies not understanding yet how the eagles' natural rules are (I was quite the same many years ago when I started to watch eagles on live cams). We all need to watch with some "healthy distance". I've had to learn that lesson too but it comes only within time. For now I hope the sibling rivalry will calm down soon and all three will thrive and be just alright. I'm confident that all will be good in about 1-2 weeks.
So adorable at this age. The older baby usually bonks but as they get older they bonk back 😊
Their little eyes are so cool!
Cuteness overload! ❤
So adorable ❤❤
Too cute! 🥰
suddenly, im just thinking about jackie and shadow in big bear valley, different situation, but here successfully hatched, nice and beautiful, very cute, sometimes im just imagining, they are eaglet of J/S today
This is too sad ….but next year there will be little babes and Mommy and Dad Jackie and Shadow. My ❤️ tells me so.
I'm still praying for a miracle. They deserve it.
This is sad? You have odd priorities. Nature is unpredictable. These two got the 3 Jackie and Shadow didn't hatch and that's beautiful. Jackie and Shadow get another chance next year. Wish them good health. Don't expect nature to go your way and think it's unfortunate when things "go wrong".
Why other nest having success with eaglets sad? We should celebrate other nests are thriving, which means the species is thriving.
Watching nature means understanding and accepting the reality of nature.
@@BillionairesArentYourFriends yes it is sad. I find your lack of heart sad as well.
Love this family. ❤️❤️❤️
Was watching the big bear lake eagles. Unfortunately their three eggs did not hatch. It is so sad to watch. Same thing happened last year. 😢
So nice to see this. Thank you! This is awesome❤
So adorable!
Beautiful!
Too cute God bless. Yes they survive 🙏🏼
How wonderful to see
Triplets ❣️❣️❣️
Why isn’t the mother feeding the other two? Pretty sad!
Prayers for chick's survival
Just think about how many more we would have, if E2 and E3 were removed and placed with foster parents nests, that would increase their survival
Agree
what if you remove 2 and 3, and then 1 dies in the nest? do not mess with the wild animals
Every time man interferes with Mother Nature is when we end up in trouble. It’s called survival of the fittest
The species is thriving now. They’re no longer on the endangered list. They’re now only protected due to their symbolism and status as birds of prey.
❤❤❤
The older one seemed to beat up the younger two. He was also fed more.
That's what I was going to say! Its a bully! I hope it don't hurt the others!🦅🦅🦅
@@jasonbroughton533 I think it will if it can. I guess the mom feeds whichever one gets their head up closest to her.
I just hope it won’t be a sibilcide
Apparently, the stronger siblings kill the weaker ones, and the mom lets it happen. It's quite common in the Eagle nest.
The parents will only feed who is taking and unfortunately will not break up the fighting/dominating. If the parents can get 1&2 full #3 will have a chance but if they don't... He won't and that's reality. Sad to us but to eagles it is survival of the fittest. Tough world out there so they only feed the strong. I actually would rather see nests of just one because of this but 3 is amazing considering the circumstances with this nest❤️
It's hard to watch
Only the strongest will survive. It’s the rules of nature as cruel as it may be. It ensures the survival of the species.
The last time this couple had triplets, they all survived. They were the best behaved babies I had ever seen. I hope these 3 also thrive and survive ❤ Although the bigger one is already bonking the smaller ones..😮
Food was never a problem in this nest, since there's plenty of fish available. They had success raising triplets before.
Красота ❤❤❤
Just 'found' this nest! Where are these guys? Also, what happened to the eagle pair at the National Arboretum?
Ha Ha - and then the 3rd head peeked up!
😊
This too sad to watch. They are only feeding the one . 😞
Thanks for this video! Amazing to have three chicks 🐣🐣🐣❣️❣️❣️🦅🦅😍😍
They're so cute. I am sad over FOBBV eagles not having at least 1 of 3 babies. Thx you
Is there a live cam for this family?
If Tony Soprano was an eagle chick.
😅
Sad to watch only one chick being fed. It will be survival of the strongest. Devastated over losing the Big Bear eggs of Jackie and Shadow whose hearts and souls are broken. Don’t understand how these eggs hatched. Can’t watch anymore. Nature will take its course.😥
Wow! Check this place out. 🐣
Oh my gosh, reading these comments is ridiculous! Stop trying to incite so much drama into an eagle nest. If you are new to nature videos, ask questions or go to the website shown in the description box to get educated. I have watched this nest for a few years now and all 3 eaglets have always fledged. These parents know what they are doing, food is not scarce in this environment. Thank you, Cali Condor, for posting these incredible videos!
Looks like you're the over dramatic one here. SHEESH
How can you love these little bobble heads
How can you NOT?!
I think we have a little bullying going on here 😂!
Can anyone link the cam? It's going to a diff eagle? The babies look fledge age when I click into it...?
This is sadder than watching J & S sit on eggs that aren’t going to hatch
They are all being fed, why is it sad? They had raised triplets before with success. Projecting Shadow and Jackie failure on this nest will do nothing. Bird watching is accepting nature's rules, not humans. This nest is near a great resource for food. They feed one at a time, that's how it works.
Gosh the strong ones a bully
why is one preventing the others from feeding?
Why is the biting/bullying not put to a stop by the eagle parent?
The parents let their offspring sort it out because they need to learn how to compete and fight for their food. Otherwise, the eaglets will not survive their first year in the wild.
Are there 3 chicks? I've only seen 2
Why is she not feeding the other 2??😮
It’s sad think its 3 year no babies
That stinker with aggressive eating habits needs to be in his own nest, so that the other 2 have a chance to eat and get stronger! 😮
Too sad. I can’t watch this anymore.
Why?
@@SmilingFoliage-tv9bx I think bcuz of the babies fighting sometimes...actually that one eaglet keeps beating up the other two 😑
Same. My heart beaks for the other two. I know it's nature, but still 😞
Me too. I'm a newbie to this and it has wonderful moments, but I was felled by the harsh realities of their very touching lives. I might check in now & then.
I don't understand people saying it's too sad/hard to watch. You want to observe wildlife, then accept it's not always pleasant.
❤❤❤❤❤A🩵T🩵🐦🐦🐦❤
That chick who's eating has a preferential position by being up higher than the other two. Plus, he's opening his mouth which is what the mother is looking for. So the other two chicks who aren't opening their mouths for food tells me that the first chick is going to get stronger and inevitably will push out the other two chicks from the nest. He's already being aggressive over the other chick getting food from the mother to the point where the stronger chick is trying to grab the food out of the weaker chick's mouth. There's no doubt in my mind that the stronger chick is seeking to kill his siblings....thus illustrating Darwin's theory of the survival of the fittest. Nature ain't pretty.
This happens with eaglets, and the younger ones usually find crafty ways to get their portions at mealtime. The bonking will ease up as they grow and when learning that there is enough food supplied by the parents. It is tough to watch sometimes.
Looks like mom is not bright enough to feed them all.
Thunder es una madre de 💯 lo ha hecho antes genial! Y ahora lo volverá a hacer .
