What frustrates me is this process looks understandable, but when it comes time to actually do it without guidance, my brain freezes up and I have no clue as to how to set up the equation. Then I quit. The second and third equations are exactly what I'm talking about.
I use camstudio to capture what's on my screen and I have a tablet with a stylus that I connect to the computer via usb. I use Cyberlink video editing software to edit the video after it is captured. BTW...I am from Madison...go Badgers!
I paused the video on each question, trying to solve it without using any help. Here is my answer and also the method of working I used to get this answer: Number 1 - Answer = 1.98 per pound. Solution: Since Watermelon is $3.99 Let x be the price of the 3 pounds of cherries. $9.93 - $3.99 = 5.94 Meaning that the 3 pounds of Cherries is equal to 5.94 5.94+3.99 = 9.93 Since we've found out the cost of 3 pounds of Cherries, to find how much each is, we will need to divide 5.94 by 3. 5.94/3 = 1.98 C = 1.98. Therefore 1 pound of cherry is 1.98, 3 is 5.94. etc We can now check if this is correct. 1.98x3+3.99 = 9.93. Therefore the solution is correct, and C is 1.98 per pound. Number 2 - Answer = 9 Solution: Let x be n(number) It says 3 x the number. Therefore 3x. It also says that it is 2 less then 4 times that same number(x). Therefore it is 4x-2 The answer when adding together is 61. Adding the two expressions we should get an equation like this. 3x+4x-2 = 61. We can collect the like-terms, 3x and 4x. 3x+4x = 7x Final equation: 7x-2 = 61. Add two to 61 61+2 = 63 7x=63 Divide both sides by 7: 63/7 = x 9 = x Ans = 9 Number 3 - Let Janes age be x Since we are given data on her older sister and younger sister, am guessing we would have to write a equation like this. I am not that strong at age problems. Kinda find them hard. Anyways Answer = 7 Solution: Janes age = x It says that her older sister is 1 year more than twice her age(Jana). Therefore: Jane Older sister = x+1+2x Janes younger sister says that she is 3 years younger then Jane(x) Therefore: Younger sister = x-3 So since it says that the sum is 26. We will need to add all the expressions created above^^: So it should be: x-3+x+1+2x=26. Collect like terms. 4x-2 = 26. Add 2 to 26 4x=28 Divide both sides by 4 x=28/4 x=7 I am sure that the first two are correct, not sure about the last one. Ill check in a few minutes. Ill edit this comment to see the score I got. Bye Edit: Okay I got full marks. 3/3. Didn't expect it but yeah. Algebra is sometimes confusing but also easy depending on the question. Bye
ik this was posted in 2017 but i'd like to ask on an example i have in my book well an activity, it goes "The sum of two numbers is 55. The greater number is seventeen times the smaller number plus one. Find the numbers" and then i verify it like in the video though im really confused- hopefully i don't look like an idiot i'm in 9th grade
What I hate abt these algebra word problems is that not every question has the same logic behind And what honestly puzzles me is how easily other people are able to apply that twisted logic that I cant see . See there are certain questions that you can practice and get good at But applying logic in twisted ways is subjective. Im a dumbass and I cant do it . :(
There are many things in math that are not directly used in real life as life is so situational. However, problems that do not show up directly in real life can still influence your brain to think in a logical fashion, therefore nothing is a waste. For example, you may learn about the planets in the solar system but it doesn't mean you will be visiting those planets. However, studying them has value related to other things. When I was young, I used to say things like, "when are we ever going to use this?". As someone who used to think in that fashion, I would advise to be careful as it can make your brain start to ignore things that you may deem not worthy of your attention which in turn may stifle your overall development. I wish you well in you educational endeavors!

Me toooooooo
me too
Same
haha this is painfully the most relatable comment I've ever seen 🥲
You are the best, I look at your videos, quite helpful. Thank you sir.
Helped me a lot, Thank you very much
Tanks very much your examples have helped me understand word problems better
Pls make more videos
I’m so bad at math,
This video helped a lot!
Venti
I like how you break it down, nice job!
Thank you!
thank you much! This helps a lot for exam
I really think that this is the only yt video that helped me!
Thank you so much! I understand now!
Glad it helped!
Thanks! This really helped me ☺☺
Happy this helped!
@@mrmaisonet hehe, keep up the good work sir.
Very well explained. Thank u
What software do you use?
I use camstudio to capture what's on my screen and I have a tablet with a stylus that I connect to the computer via usb. I use Cyberlink video editing software to edit the video after it is captured. BTW...I am from Madison...go Badgers!
mrmaisonet
Thank you. I want to do this for my younger students. I love your videos.
mrmaisonet
Go Badgers!!!!!!!!!!!
This video just made solving word problems with algebra click for me
Taking the last part of my GED test tomorrow
I know GED tests love word problems
Passed my first 2
Only math & science left
Who else has a quiz tomorrow
Wtf lol I do😂😂🤣
Me
Test
how about if the question is asking for Jana's older sister or younger ...how to solve it?
Thx: your a life saver
I paused the video on each question, trying to solve it without using any help.
Here is my answer and also the method of working I used to get this answer:
Number 1 -
Answer = 1.98 per pound.
Solution:
Since Watermelon is $3.99
Let x be the price of the 3 pounds of cherries.
$9.93 - $3.99 = 5.94
Meaning that the 3 pounds of Cherries is equal to 5.94
5.94+3.99 = 9.93
Since we've found out the cost of 3 pounds of Cherries, to find how much each is, we will need to divide 5.94 by 3.
5.94/3 = 1.98
C = 1.98. Therefore 1 pound of cherry is 1.98, 3 is 5.94. etc
We can now check if this is correct.
1.98x3+3.99 = 9.93.
Therefore the solution is correct, and C is 1.98 per pound.
Number 2 -
Answer = 9
Solution:
Let x be n(number)
It says 3 x the number. Therefore 3x.
It also says that it is 2 less then 4 times that same number(x). Therefore it is 4x-2
The answer when adding together is 61. Adding the two expressions we should get an equation like this.
3x+4x-2 = 61.
We can collect the like-terms, 3x and 4x.
3x+4x = 7x
Final equation:
7x-2 = 61.
Add two to 61
61+2 = 63
7x=63
Divide both sides by 7:
63/7 = x
9 = x
Ans = 9
Number 3 -
Let Janes age be x
Since we are given data on her older sister and younger sister, am guessing we would have to write a equation like this. I am not that strong at age problems. Kinda find them hard. Anyways
Answer = 7
Solution:
Janes age = x
It says that her older sister is 1 year more than twice her age(Jana). Therefore:
Jane Older sister = x+1+2x
Janes younger sister says that she is 3 years younger then Jane(x)
Therefore:
Younger sister = x-3
So since it says that the sum is 26. We will need to add all the expressions created above^^:
So it should be:
x-3+x+1+2x=26.
Collect like terms.
4x-2 = 26.
Add 2 to 26
4x=28
Divide both sides by 4
x=28/4
x=7
I am sure that the first two are correct, not sure about the last one. Ill check in a few minutes. Ill edit this comment to see the score I got. Bye
Edit: Okay I got full marks. 3/3. Didn't expect it but yeah. Algebra is sometimes confusing but also easy depending on the question.
Bye
Thank you! Very helpful!
very easy for me
9.93-3.99 = 5.94 cherries 3 pounds
5.94 ÷ 3 = 1.98 cost per pound of cherries ......so answer is 1.98
You are not doing the equation algebraically
Its better to think about this algebraically because word problems get alot more harder especially in my AP finance class. This even helped me.
THANK YOU I UNDERSTAND!!
Thank you so much man that so kind of u
Thanks
For the first problem my equation was 9.93 - 3.99 ÷ 3 = X/1.98. My answer is the same but the equations look different.
ik this was posted in 2017 but i'd like to ask on an example i have in my book well an activity, it goes "The sum of two numbers is 55. three and fifty two
The only problem I have is how do I write down the word problem which sucks
very helpful thx
I did the closes factor of seven there was to 61 then subtracted 2 and then I did the rest
Thank you!
Problem #1 was 1.98 at 0:10 is when it clicked
my final is tmr wish me luck 😔🙏🏼

Thanks.
I did it different way
i never had to use this in real life.
