I think it inevitable the our undergraduate training leaves us somewhat unprepared for our own PhD projects, simply down to the fact that undergraduate courses are so broad and our research is going to be so niche/narrowed down. Its not nice to feel like you're the a step or two behind your peers, but you never know - they might feel deficient in ways that you are strong! Love the snow, love the winter vibes. Absolutely, it is largely in my head and a matter of insecurity but i think its so important to discuss because it can be difficult to combat when you are feeling a bit isolated. Can we have a private zoom hangout/study sometime?

The conversation about understanding a certain lingo in your field is definitely interesting. I’m a music theory masters student, and one debate in the field is whether or not music institutions should change the undergraduate curriculum to “reflect the 21st century,” or if we should stick to the standard classical canon. On the one hand, there’s more to studying music than learning orchestral repertoire and 18th century counterpoint, but on the other hand, it’s useful to set students up with a shared understanding and vocabulary that they can apply to other areas of music later.
It's difficult to force yourself out of it when your home is such a safe space but I can tell the difference in my overall demeanor when I force myself to head to campus
I just finished my first semester of my PhD and am starting my second and I am already itching to finish my classes and start my own research project lol.
Random but the city reflected in your microwave in the beginning of the video was really aesthetic lol. I live in new haven too and love seeing it in your vlogs!
It was 70 degrees here in Maryland yesterday. I don't even want to think about snow, but I know it's coming ☹️😩. Always beautiful to look at, but a pain when you have to drive in it.
Maybe you could find it interesting to read about Antonio de Montesinos and Bartolomé de las Casas and their vindication of the rights of the native populations in Spanish colonies. If you don't already know them of course :)
