Mel tillis was one of the beautiful male voices of traditional country music. Mel is one of the greats. He was cordial. To me and gave me emotional support back then when I started singing and a COORS. beer.......I had loads of respect for him. Voice that couldn’t be touched. I’ll always keep Mel tillis at the top of my list of GREATS,! REST IN PEACE CLASSY ONE.
I saw Mel and his family, in 1998 at his Theatre in Branson, Missouri, and it was the best live country show I have ever seen. Mel's songs live, were as perfect as his recordings. A wonderful singer/songwriter, entertainer. RIP Mel.
I was involved in a partnership putting on concerts and dances in South Texas in the nineteen seventies. We hired Mel to headline and consequently got to visit with him quite a bit. He was a true southern gentleman. We sat on his tour bus and I was blown away by his generosity and kindness. He’s definitely missed.
Never heard of Mel Tillis. Only I've been an admirer of his song 'Ruby, Don't Take You Love To Town' ever since first hearing it in 1969, sung by Kenny Rogers. Both the construction of the story and the words are brilliant. I never hear it without feeling the emotion of the situation. As if in the room where the cripple soldier is pleading for his wife to stand by him. A meaningful & truly classic song. Wonderful to hear the writer sing it himself, looking so young & handsome. Now to see him in his later years, & hear his stutter (I had one too, in my youth), then that he's already passed, leaves me saddened not to have looked up his masterpiece in his lifetime. RIP Mr Tillis ☘️
In 1993 I took Guitar Lessons from Tommy Sparks for one year in Belleville ,Michigan .. The Stories Tommy use to tell me were Epic. I have all my lessons with Tommy on cassette tapes

Lori Wolf Hi Lori, Thank you for responding to my post. I like Mel Tillis also. I would love to have have the Old Dogs CD and DVD.. Where did you get your CD from? Thanks so much for sharing your post with me. You are a very sweet lady.
One thing I picked up from what Mel said, was that his Mother told him to go back to school and give them something to laugh about. His Mother gave him the tools to use humor, and turn his liability into an asset. Sure is a big difference between then and now.
Where does Mel live now? Mel Tillis is one of my all time favorite singer and entainer. Mel is the best of the best. We all know there is only one Mel Tillis. God bless Mel Tillis always.
Thomas Tommy I LOVE MEL TILLIS SO MUCH.PEOPLE SHOULD,NT TEASE MEL TILLIS JUST BECAUSE HE STUTTERS. I LOVE HEARNING MEL TILLIS SING HIS 5 DAUGTHERS LOOKS VERY VERY PRETTY. My daddy [Charles B. Dickson] & his brother [Thomas G. Dickson] grew up with Mel Tillis in Pahokee, FL. HE HELD ME AS A BABY, which I don't recall, of course. So I waited till my daddy got tickets for me to see him in concert in Elberton, GA in 1988, see my FB POST IN REMEMBRANCE...@HuMrLvR24
I got to dance with Merle at one of his concerts, he loved to get out on the floor and dance,,,I was about 22 and standing there and Merle walked up and said "young lady may I have this dance?",,,,,, it was only about 45 seconds, but he was such a gentleman! I got to see him again about 20 years ago and told him about that,,,he is such a sweet man!!
Umm, in the video he explains that his Father stuttered and his Brother also stuttered, so it appears that the Brothers inherited the problem which does make sense, because stuttering is inherited.
Cousin Mel sure is missed. I’m glad y’all enjoyed the story of MY GRANDMOTHER running 3 red lights. What’s even funnier is none of it was true! Grandmother quit driving at 83 when her dementia started. She lived with us until 2006, she passed at home 2 years later. Aunt Woodrow lived to be 96 and was the last sister to pass about the same time Melvin did. Oh and they never wore nail polish. LOL
HE WAS AN OLD MAN AND HE HAS PASSED AND HE DID STUTTER,,COMING UP ON THE ANNIVERSARY OF HIS DEATH THIS OFFENDS ME, JUST BE AT PEACE AND KNOW HE REALLY DID
And he was rude Barry Road made fun of the state I lived in we're just survive Katrina my house was demolished we finally got the code office we finally rebuild living right on the front of Highway 90 and this man had the audacity to make fun of this state that has voter ID paper ballots the checks care of the people who vote and they both with honesty and conviction and conservatism he was a very small man small minded I'm full of himself

i love the interviewer!
RIP Mel I’ll see you later.
RIP Mel Tillis
Sounds like Mel fooled us for all those years....he really doesn't stutter.
He stuttered because of a illness caused by malaria as a child.
Umm, in the video he explains that his Father stuttered and his Brother also stuttered, so it appears that the Brothers inherited the problem which does make sense, because stuttering is inherited.
David Kennedy you should do your homework that stuttering is what made him famous what a joke !!!!!
IF YOU THINK THAT YOUR DUMB
David, if I could delete your comment, I would.

The interviewer looks somewhat like Hillary Clinton...I need a drink STAT
I thought it was Hillary until the video started. I was wondering what the hell was he doing with her, lol.
He talks really good now. Lol. Good gimmick.
