The brass item you think is to a carpenter square, looks like the part of an old wooden block plane to adjust the depth. The little lip would catch the blade and keep it secure. Just my $.02.
@@EarMode Seems a little wide to have been a height adjuster. It seem to me like it could have been a "joiner fence" on a small plane. It might also have been an adjustable stop on some kind of marking or measuring tool. Because it's brass I am thinking it relates to woodworking tools.
❤well, I'm about to add my Aussie 2 cents worth too, so please don't laugh at me the thing that looks like a carpenter square reminds me of an old fashioned seat belt! I know, it's silly but there you go! 😁 Right, got to say you're looking a lot better, Brad. Glad to see you out in the fresh air. Now stay safe, get better soon.. 😘 from Victoria, Australia! ❤️
The delicate stamped plated brass item reminds me of the fancy trim from a picture frame in my grandmother's house. It would have dated from about ninety years ago but could be much older as she had a lot of hand me down items from her church members as a widow with nine kids at home and being depression era. She would often gift lace work she made to them and they would give much more valuable items (second hand older stuff) back to her. Everything in her house had doilies under them. She always had some lacework going to occupy her time by the time I was around. And it was her gift of choice to everyone.
The square hole in the anvil is called a hardy hole. I’m a blacksmith in New Hampshire who has been watching your videos for over three years. Keep going Brad, and thank your friend Rebecca. She seems like a good friend, happy to help you get through this- whatever it is.
I have to wonder if you stumbled on the remains of a moonshine hut, metal basins, something stove related, close to a stream - sounds like everything you'd need to make moonshine except for some copper line and copper kettle. Just a thought. Good too see you are getting back on your feet but please don't overdo things, it takes time to recover from Lyme disease.
The question of the odd metal piece. It looks like the hold down piece for a wood plane. The blade would be under it with and adjustable bolt for setting depth of cut running in the slot. It is a large one, most likely from a wooden block plane.
Brad - this is the first of your videos I have watched since before you announed your illness, and I am so happy to see that you look great! In the last video I watched your face looked very thin and guant and your skin tone wasn't good. I remember thinking to myself you must be working too hard. In your intro for this video [@ 00:13], I noticed immediately that your face looks normal and healthy, maybe even a bit on the chubby side! This is a good thing! That ascetic TH-cam Influencer look just wasn't you! Here's to many happy years to come, prowling the mountains of Vermont!
So glad your health is improving & you will feel better the more often you get out because how can you feel rotten when you can see the sky, hear the birds & touch the earth ? Thanx for taking us along.
The brass piece is from some kind of a cutting tool like a plane. For tuning the blade. Curved front down with some kind of wedge and set screw. Brass gilded florals for around a frame for a picture or mirror.
Great to see ya out and about. Hope you are truly feeling better. I was thinking the leaf brass could have been part of a picture frame. Small one, but fancy.
I love watching your calm demeanor and learning from your vast array of knowledge about the relics you find. It's always a pleasure. Lovely terrain and hunt.
What an amazing adventure! Those old homesites in the woods are my favorite places to explore. There's something special to me about finding those long-lost personal items and trying to figure out what the people were like who left them behind.
It's the retaining plate/adjustment plate for a block plane for woodworking, it goes in front of the blade and a threaded bolt and a round nut fasten it all together, 100%, used them many times.
Thanks for bringing us new content. I especially enjoy being in the woods. So relaxing and exciting with all the finds. Thanks for your hard work. 2025 is gonna be a great year!
Good to see you doing better and smart enough to not push it. Also great to see you have someone watching over you on your travels. That slotted brass piece you found may be a depth gauge from an old woodworking hand plane? Maybe!
The fine brass work looks like a vicrorian picture frame front. Wooden back and the brass had tabs to wrap around the glass and wood holding them together. My Nan had a few of them and i thought if them immediately i saw it in your hand..
You’re starting to look better Brad! Glad to you recovering and getting back out there doing what you love!
@@matthewduffy9283 I don't know about better but LoL

Yep that’s what it is
Yes, totally agree. Piece of an old hand planer. Height adjuster for the blade.

💯 correct. They are still made that way today. I have several sizes. You beat me to it though
That’s what I thought it was also!
Glad you are feeling better 😊
The thin brass gold plated Rose and leaves. Looks like it would be a decorative border for a small picture frame
Glad you are not Metal detecting alone. Having a unknown illness it’s best to have a buddy with you just in case. Love your Channel.
Unknown ? I thought he had lime disease ?
No. They have never given Brad a diagnosis of anything. Said it wasn't Lyme.
Good to see you back out detecting!
Nothing like the soothing sound of a babbling brook❣️
The T shaped metal with the slot is a depth stop for a woodworkers rebate plane.
Glad youre taking someone with you Brad until you're 100 percent. Lots of goodies.

Welcome back Brad. I found that watching your reruns turned out to be not reruns to me. Evidently, I’ve missed quite a few.
Awesome to see ya back at it. Nice to see Rebecca keeping you company as well!

Carpenter planer for the Brass thing. Held the blade tightly

I found a suspender clip identical to your first one on an early 1800s farm in south central PA. Made me chuckle!! Beautiful finds!
I think the brass piece might be part of a block plane for locking the blade, who knows for sure. Thinking of you and best wishes for feeling better.
So glad your health is improving & you will feel better the more often you get out because how can you feel rotten when you can see the sky, hear the birds & touch the earth ? Thanx for taking us along.

The mystery piece reminds me of the clamp to hold the blade on a small hand plane. Just a guess. Love your videos.
Agree, hand plane...(?)

In my humble opinion, that was an awesome hunt finding history‼️
Nice work kids! My guess on the mystery piece would be part of a planer for wood working🤷🏻♂️

Brad, thanks for another adventure! I am happy to see you looking healthy and continue to wish you well on your journey.

Looks like my 1700's Moravian door handle/lock with slide bolt as well as key bolt. It had metal handles on each side of door.
Glad to see you both out detecting. Thanks for the video.
Philip - Ohio
Definitely the brass piece you found was a part of a block plane. It holds the blade.
