I just found your channel through this video, and you're doing a great job explaining painting from a ground level up, using the basics. while there are many channels who make painting tutorials, there are barely any who use what everyone has and should be able to use in the hobby. awesome job, mate!
Thank you very much! I try and make guides that anyone can follow along with. I see so many tutorials using airbrushes and other expensive equipment that people just starting out don't have, so it's nice to know the simpler style is appreciated.
Looking at starting a Raven Guard force and I love simpler schemes as a good place to start. Seeing the old tech of painting right onto plastic killed me, though, lol...think I'm starting with a black primer.
I would recommend one coat of Abaddon Black, even with a primer. Spray primer often has a different "finish" to brush on paints. So by giving a coat of Abaddon Black, any mistakes that are made can be easily tidied up without them being noticeable.
It's a good idea for a beginner to try. Mixing paints is always a good skill to learn. Also as there are less paints, it's a much more budget friendly way to start out. It's always good to try out new techniques and style when you're a beginner.
I don't think there are a set with these colours in unfortunately. A lot of painters will have these ones in their collection, as they are common colours used across a lot of different models, but they do have to be picked up separately.
I always prime models in every other video guide, but in a 5 paint challenge, I didn't have a primer to use. You can use a layer of paint, either white or black as an undercoat. For years before spray primer was a commonly available, the first step was always to paint 2nd ed 40k minis with skull white. Priming is better than undercoating, but minis will hold up fine as long as you let your undercoat dry fully before painting over the top

Normally I would recommend a primer, but a primer wasn't included in the 5 paints.....
Good luck with your Raven Guard army!
@@DrunkOnTeaUK would you still recommend the 1st coat of abbadon black if it’s primed in black?

@@DrunkOnTeaUK thanks!!!
really cool
As a beginner would you say that this is a good thing to try or should I wait until I have more experience?

I wonder if there's a set that have all the paints here in one, would have want to try making at least one mini but it looks expensive.

@@DrunkOnTeaUK Oh, is that so. Is there any set you would recommend for a beginner that just wants to try painting minis space marines for display?
always great content, keep it up
Thank you! Glad you're enjoying the content!
I want to see this done with the White Scars Chapter
I've been thinking about how to do White Scars with only 5 paints. Hopefully, I'll find the right combination and be able to make a video soon.
Wow It very cool !
Thank you!
Make sure to put primer on your models unless you want your paint to scratch off but other than thay great video
*that*
