    The "carrots in water" thing is actually a way to keep them fresh for much longer. I didn't think it'd work at first, but if you just trim and peel them, then submerge them in water in the fridge, they last way longer than the usual "dark, dry corner" method.
    If you plan to just make some stir fry a few times and don't wanna immediately veer into "time for soup or these carrots will go bad", it's actually quite a valuable thing to know.

    American fridges are like that because everything comes in big sizes, and grocery stores tend to be further away from everybody. Not many people can afford the gas to drive to the grocery store every other day to buy food. Also, bigger sizes tend to be cheaper, and sales on food tend to include multiple items.

      I feel like for fruit I still much prefer it fresh, though.
      I rarely just take a nice big bite of raw broccoli, but often do so with melon/peach/strawberry/apple etc. Texture plays a big role and freezing absolutely demolishes the texture.
      Like yeah, if you're gonna just use the fruit for smoothies or plan to cook it into something else, sure. But if you just wanna eat the fruit itself, fresh is always gonna be better.

    • @BBarbs
      @BBarbs 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +13

      @@dowfreak7 frozen fruit is pretty exclusively used for smoothies or cooking, I don't know anybody thawing out frozen fruit to eat with their meal. It's just way cheaper if you're going to make a smoothie for breakfast to use frozen fruit and it also makes it where you don't need to own an ice maker to make a smoothie or constantly be using your freezer space to make ice cubes since the frozen fruit will thicken up whatever juice you use when blended

    I think the thing with America and sauces is our containers are so big and almost all of them require refrigeration after opening. So we feel yes we need all those sauces but we don't need that MUCH of each sauce. We have a dish we have occasionally that uses that sauce, but we have to get the huge container and keep it until we make that one dish. Many East Asian dishes have lots of ingredients that seem like sauces also, but they are shelf stable so it seems less weird! Mirin, sesame oil, gochujang, you can keep all that in the pantry. Meanwhile, even other cultures' ingredients sold in America require refrigeration even if in the country of origin it wouldn't. It's the way our food is made, I think?

    love you guys, but that medication in the fridge looked the same as boxes of insulin pens, which is used much more by those with type 1 diabetes, which is never caused by food choices or lifestyle. Type 2 diabetes actually often isn't caused by food choices or lifestyle either, for that matter.
    Also I know people say diabetes jokes are "just jokes", but they're actually pretty dangerous considering most of the world hears "diabetes" and automatically assumes Type 2 and that it's "caused by unhealthy food and sugar."
    A lot of people with type 1 diabetes are diagnosed at really young ages, and when people come to believe "unhealthy food/sugar = diabetes" they can really put those young kids in danger! Type 1 diabetics need sugar urgently when their levels go too low. There's plenty of stories of young people asking adults around them for something sugary to treat their low, only to be met with "but diabetics can't have sugar" and could absolutely result in the person with type 1 diabetes falling into a coma.
    I personally know people who grew up as kids with that exact experience, having to argue back with people much older than them about their own condition because the misinfo and misunderstandings have been spread for soooo long and is so embedded in society nowadays, and few people try to correct themselves :( It's quite scary imo, especially for parents of little kids with type 1 diabetes. I just wish people would take a moment to understand and learn and not make as many diabetes jokes :(:(

    • @FabulousCooki
      @FabulousCooki 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      I’ve had experience teaching a child with type 1 diabetes. You couldn’t eat any of that stuff in the fridge without calculating the nutrients in there and recording it in a journal. May be wrong, but to me a fridge that filled of sugary things would stress me the heck out and also be un-usable if I had type 1. Also you don’t just go out with no extra food packed like a snack bar, again, from experience told by the child’s mum.
      If the child has no ability or confidence to buy a food item to raise sugars, has no medication, has to beg adults then I think they’re too young to be out on their own 😬

    • @lxismii
      @lxismii 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +13

      @@FabulousCooki didn't want to spell it out bc i'm really private - even online -discussing my health, but i've got type 1, have since I was a little kid, and have also known other former and current little kids with type 1 too, as I mentioned in my comment. I speak from experience haha. Extracurricular classes were a place I often had to argue with teachers, despite my parents having met and explained things to the teachers. Substitute teachers at school were another issue. Friends parents would misunderstand at times even after thorough explaining. I had to call 911 a year ago, and even the registered nurse didn't understand about my being type 1 and levels going low. It was terrifying.
      My own elderly relatives at the time would make statements like "so she can't eat anything sweet ever again.." and comment about why I was so skinny if I had diabetes. This wasn't all that long ago, and not much has changed in public perception - if anything, it's gotten worse, as people have associated "diabetes" and "obesity" more than ever before.
      Also the food in that fridge may not have been the most nutritionally balanced, but there's no real issue with someone eating it with Type 1. We have to calculate out for literally everything we eat and drink regardless, in order to give the right insulin dose for the food. Once you've had it for 10, 20+ years, you just do it in your brain automatically for everything ever, it's not necessary to write anything in a journal.
      Type 1 is a really different thing to Type 2, to the point they used to discuss changing the name, but never did :( I wish they would have, because the endless comments about it online and in day to day life are so exhausting, and trying to explain things to people frequently results in this "well actuallyyyyy" arguments back by people who've never had to live with it themselves :( Also incidents do always happen unfortunately, and no matter how many hypo treatments you send a type 1 kid off with, they can and do run out at times anyway. Type 1 is infuriating as we can do everything under the sun correctly, and our bodies can still react in bizarre ways. A hot day can send our levels up or down for no reason other than it being hot haha.

    They're misunderstanding the freezer trash. XD
    In a lot of places in the US and Canada, trash is only collected once a week and it's inconvenient/expensive (if not impossible) to get to a dump in between pickups.
    So wet kitchen trash (old food without a container, used coffee grounds, tea bags, greasy paper towels from draining food, meat diapers, kitchen scraps, things you can't rinse, etc.) gets put into a clean bag and put in the freezer so it doesn't stink until it can be gotten rid of next trash day. You don't put anything else other than kitchen stuff in the freezer trash.
    I use one because I do not tolerate my trash smelling and will not go into the kitchen if I can smell it, or gods forbid there are fruit flies.

    Ketchup and most sauces say once open keep in the fridge. Yes they taste better at room temp. Also in the UK many breads even had a line on them and say "Freeze this half, keep the other half fresh" on the packet!
    However you didn't point out EGGS DONT GO IN THE FRIDGE. They aren't stored in a fridge in shops either

    • @Zerok147
      @Zerok147 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      If you buy eggs from counter they don't go in the fridge, if you buy eggs from the fridge they go to the fridge at home simple as that. Refrigerating eggs keeps bacterial growth at bay, but also prolongs the shelf life and quality of eggs. Especially since some factories wash the eggs and that get rids of eggs protective layer, that will reduce shelf life, that's why some eggs are stored in refrigerated areas. I can get both kind of eggs where I live, they taste the same.

    I love Connor and Chris, but you can tell they can't and don't cook, since they keep asking questions about ingredients, sauces and so on. I mean It's more normal to have many things to enhance your cooking than having a fridge with alcohol and cheese. And people have families with different tastes and a lot of sauces and other stuff for cooking last long in the fridge. Since they make good money and live in Japan they eat out or order in most of the time, so they have no idea about cooking at all.

    • @lesleycouch6557

      @lesleycouch6557 Well yeah, it's their choice. But because of that they lack knowledge to do with cooking and shopping for groceries and even storage. So they keep talking nonsense about food item choices not understanding or having any insight to why they might be needed and how things should be stored.

    I prefer fresh fruit for juicing. but frozen is cheaper and since it's frozen it's already perfect consistency for smoothies, you don't have to add ice, just a form of liquid like milk and your good to go. so it's quicker and easier. I prefer fresh fruit and drinking immediately after turning it into a smoothie or juicing it because it retains way more nutrients that way, frozen stuff likely lost a lot of it's nutrients in the process.
