Crosby and Ovi were different draft classes. Ovi and Malkin were #1 and #2 in '04 and Crosby #1 in '05. Imagine the Penguins getting Ovechkin and Crosby the next year.
Yup, 100% correct. There was a lockout in 2004 and the season was cancelled. Crosby was drafted in 2005, so Ovi's rookie season was actually the year AFTER he was drafted, while Crosby's was the year he was drafted. Also, Malkin was delayed getting the NHL because of a transfer dispute and didn't play his rookie NHL season until 2006.
It's definitely a fun show for value box finds. Last year I grabbed two rare Charles Barkley cards from a $1 box. I had no idea what they were worth, but I was able to sell them on eBay for $120 and $85. I haven't had that kind of success since, but it's nice to get lucky every once and a while.

Next show is April 1-3, 2022. Then June 24-26 and October 21-23. I totally agree with you that the show ranks up there with Dallas. They also bring in 40-60 pro athletes for autographs and photographs with them. Keep checking the website for updates. Hope to see you in April or at another show. I did run into another TH-camr… Chris at “baseball card collector investor dealer” on Sunday. Nice guy. Anyway, hope your flights were uneventful and you got home safely. 👊

Saw you talking to the guy about why Crosby and Ovi have no autos together it's because Crosby actually didn't want to sign with anybody until he agreed to do a few cards with Lemieux in the early 2010's. Since then it's still pretty rare to see a Crosby dual but he's done a couple the last few years. The only ones out there are Malkin, McDavid, Lemieux and then there is a rare card from 05-06 SPX of Gretzky and Crosby that I think was never supposed to release I believe only 14 of the 25 made actually made it out.
Yes this is true I actually commented something similar. The Spx was sticker autographs and Crosby’s dad didn’t want anyone on the card with his son… which is weird. Remember the 05-06 rookie update which he signed it and the 2nd slot wrote 2005 #1 pick strange

I would recommend Michael Jordan or LeBron James rookies. Kevin Durant rookies are very cheap and should be going higher. Stephen Curry will go higher also as well as Klay Thompson rookies. Nickiel Walker Alexander or Shai Gilgous Alexander rookie cards aren’t bad either.

Here's a quote from Brian Jennings at the NHL: “We have a fiduciary responsibility to our board and to our clubs to make sure that we’re being, if you will, active listeners and ensuring that we’re there,” Jennings said. “We did have conversations, and Fanatics is a terrific partner of the NHL in a lot of different areas of our business, and will continue to be so. But just as related to trading cards, we felt that Upper Deck was doing a lot of things - in the business of going direct-to-consumer through their e-Pack, but they also bought a very interesting holistic approach to the business."
