Brilliant... thanks so much for putting this together Billy!!! Love those murals... I was brought up off Fountains Road opposite St Aths in the sixties until they cleared the streets in 1970 but Kirkdale and it's people will always have a special place n my heart.
My Ma's sisters all lived, and some still do live on the Flower streets. Great group of residents live around there, let down by the lads and gangs at the top.
It is a perfect location for people up to no good to hang out because of the police try to question them, they can run to the other end and scatter long before the bizzies are able to drive round the corner onto Vauxhall.
Is right Adam, Big cut Neil here, just seen this video and thank again to Billy for doing the vid. We all grew up in The Flower streets , and they where an Oasis of beauty in the North End, were it was mostly Tenements and high rise. Jockey from Transalpine called us "The Kirkdale Riviera " , most of the dad, were dockers and mums worked in Tates, B.A.T. or any number of the Vauxhall rd factories . The Flower streets began to deteriorate , once the tennis were knocked down and a lot of the residents moved into new council houses or along to The Eldonian estate , this allowed the private landlords in, and that sense of community began to fade . Obviously I live in Australia now, but still keep in touch with my childhood friends and can honestly say , That Kirkdale in general was the happiest place for children to grow up, and as a very famous Holy Cross resident once said , "You're all semi townies anyway" Thanks and keep up the good work Billy
Love old buildings Billy...I always wonder about the lads laying the bricks back in the day....I worked old house one we pulled floor up was a space down there my height bout 6 foot empty space but in centre was a hill..and I mean a hill 4/5 foot off oldschool beer bottles mostly bit smashed but I nicked one the whole ones they like oldschool pirate brown bottles with like a screw lid....turns out on the bottle is the name off a long gone brewery in my city 👍...cherrs billy

Hi Billy, I just saw this! Thank you, I'm glad you like the murals I painted with various friends and volunteers. It was so wonderful to brighten up the area with art. I just finished the ninth one, on Snowdrop Street! There will be a community celebration event this Saturday, 18th of May from 2-4pm. Please come if you can! It'll be at the bottom of Pansy Street.
Spent 12 weeks a year in daisy Street at my nan's it was a great place to live safe for kids playing in back entries and on streets so sad to see it now best and happiest times in daisy Street then it had a school and Stanley hospital enjoy your podcasts all the best
My dad was born in 66 Harebell Street in 1923... loads of Blackburn / Gillespie and Collard families from there... my nana was one of 15 children! They all lived around there.
Cracking murals Bill. I stayed on fountains road for a few days when i was down for a Reds game, cracking pub near the end of the road 'Saddle Inn' was made to feel welcome by the locals.
Unlike the Coward Irishman ! Who attacked my Dad with a crow bar from behind! As He left the Saddle Pub back in the early 197O,s on his way back home to North Dingle ???...........................................
In 2012 when I came out a 12 step treatment Centre after 6 months,I moved back to Essex to halfway house, one night I vocally heard God say to me,I love you with a love everlasting in the middle of the night,I cried my eyes out like a baby,I didn't tell anyone for ages not even my sponsor or closer friends and that's mad its painted on the wall in this video,i later found out it's a scripture in the Bible,I'm a recovery Heroin and Crack addict and can you imagine what people would of said if I told em I had vocally heard the voice of God they would of thought his back on the dark and white
Alright Billy 👍 it was nice to see the paintings and to get a lil info of the area Kirkdale my sister lived in kirkdale about 30 years ago icarnt remember the name of the road tho hope ya OK and the judda n Joe 👍
I lived on snowdrop street for twelve months recently in a shared house. Many of the houses on flower streets are now HMOs. Every property on those streets is leasehold, I have tried to find out who owns them all but have always came up against brick walls.
Seen a lad get his leg taken off on a motorbike exactly where this video starts while doing my bike test. Kirkdale walton an bootle all been neglected for years. Surprised there isn't a lot more tents.
Why is North of the Pool forgotten. Why don't tge people rise up and gight tge government. We got city of culture and tge North was just brushed away. So sad. So wrong. One can't flourish unless one is fed love and care.
Like most if our inner city its been laft neglected for decades the community is fucked deliberately by lack of government funds, hence why there are gangs everywhere looking for a get rich quick fix not giving a shot who they hurt ti get there an in reality its the people who they grew up with
Grew up in 33 Harebell Street 70s and 80s great memories in them streets, sad the way they have gone

Smashing artwork. Such a shame those terrace houses are going to rack and ruin. They could be lovely homes with some time and money spent. xx

Those houses used to be nicely painted and well maintained. What a shame the new "locals" have let those homes go to pot.
