Love this! I left the church for 50 years, after Vatican II. In that time, I broke every single commandment. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. Jesus Himself brought this detestable sinner back to His church this past December, and my first confession in over 50 years was terrifying. I was quite literally shaking in my shoes sitting there on the bench waiting my turn. It was only the kindness of the woman sitting next to me who kept whispering encouragement to me that kept me from running out. I could only get through the most heinous sin I had committed in that time because I turned into a snotty crying mess. Afterwards, I sat out in my car and wept with such relief. I have been going to confession regularly since then, as it seems I can't go more than a month without committing some stupid sin or other. I love this sacrament now, even though I get some anxiety prior to going in, but it's worth it to have that feeling of being completely cleansed. I truly want to be holy and be pleasing to God. I keep trying, I keep sinning, and I keep going to confession with every intent NOT to sin again. And so it goes, on and on......
@dharmagirl151 Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!! I appreciate your honesty 🙏❤ I truly needed to hear that! I haven't been to confession in 20 years. I have been so terrified ta go. I have talked myself out of it time & time & time again out of sheer fear. Your testimony has helped me to see & understand that no matter what...I will be forgiven. I know that in order to feel free of these chains that are so heavy & weigh me down...I must go to confession.
@@janec.kowalczyk5824 Praise God!! You have no idea what your words mean to me! Thank YOU! I am truly humbled that my words gave you the encouragement and little push you needed to set aside your fear and make that commitment to go to confession. Y'know, I hadn't set foot in a church in all those years except to attend my mother's memorial service. I didn't know this priest from Adam, and I was so terrified and didn't know if I could even be forgiven, much less be accepted back into the church. But he was kind and compassionate, he showed me God's great mercy and welcomed me back into the church with no reservations. I discovered the next day that he is the pastor when I attended my first Mass in over 50 years. I have a good relationship with him now. He and the other resident priest have heard some fairly hinky confessions from me, and it's very humbling. But no matter what you've done, if you are truly contrite and ask for forgiveness, God will forgive everything. But also, you need to forgive yourself because it is a sin against God to not forgive yourself when He has forgiven you. That's a VERY important lesson my pastor taught me. It's a manifestation of pride and ego. Who knew??? God bless you!
God bless you!! I am honored to be walking the Christian road alongside you. Always keep going back. Always. It isn't our sins that define us, but our continual battle against them!
It's so hard to confess a sin that embarrasses you. You're just so ashamed that it's very hard to even speak the words, especially to a priest. I did my first in 35 years and felt the same emotions you did. The Commandments aren't as simple as some people think. When I retook my RCIA classes, we went into great depth and we sin a lot more than we think we do! LOL.
I need and want go to confession. I am a cradle Catholic. Parochial school. We were never taught the Bible as the Bile. Didn’t know the gospel on Sundays was from the Bible until I was in parochial high school. I am 78 years old. I am learning so much listening to the three of you. Iam going back to the church again because iam listening to you. I understand so much more than I ever have before. Please pray for me.
This morning I was incredibly nervous going to confession after not going in 13 years. This episode really helped me to not feel afraid or intimidated and I was able to confess my sins and lift a huge weight off of my heart. Thank you Ryan, Ryan, and Fr. Rich
I went to confession for the first time in 30 years last week. It was very overwhelming and I forgot how to start, I also had to Google some of the prayers he gave me, but I left feeling great.
I returned to the church 13 years ago & after reconciliation I was so free. However this Covid lock down has made me dive deeper. I am so grateful - this Friday I will make a general confession- God is good & merciful. We need to understand that God is always there to forgive- we need to accept.
Yes. He never promised life would be easy, but He did say that he would always be by our side. I can't tell you all of the times He has answered my call for help with something. If He didn't answer it soon after, it was only a short while, just like today. I've never experienced as much love as He gives us, no matter how many times we stray and sin, He's always waiting with open arms. Who could ask for more?
Can’t stop watching you on TH-cam. I just watch one talk after another. Cradle Catholic, practicing, extraordinary minister of holy Eucharist, and I am impressed by the three of you. I say the rosary and Divine Mercy daily, I read my Bible with Father Schmitt Still love and enjoy you. My Bible is getting more notes. I’m 78, mother of 4, great nana of 5. And I feel I’m learning so much from you. God bless you
I came back to confession after missing it for 2 years, the priest said exactly that, "Welcome back" and that was so reassuring to me. I was so struck by his happiness to receive me back.
Lord Jesus I Trust in you. Help me to love you and Come closer to you, O Holy Spirit enlighten my mind. Help me to know my Sins. Give me Grace to Acknowledgments of Sins and Repentance. In Jesus Mighty name I ask. Ameeeeeeeeeen And Ameeeeeeeeeen
I made my first reconciliation at a late age, 12… and by that age unfortunately my life had been tainted by so many bad things. I did a face-to-face confession and remember balling my eyes out but feeling so relieved and safe. Ever since then, I prefer a F2F confession and I always feel so relieved after. There was a time in my life that I would go a long time before confession and it truly separates me from Him. I am so grateful for this sacrament and I pray that the Holy Spirit continues to lead me and convict me to confess my sins so that I may always be able to receive Him in Holy Communion. 💚🙏🏽
I was married twice and divorced twice not through the church I didn't think I could go to confession I did my research I have abstained for the past 17 years to get right with God it took me that long to go to confession because I was not properly informed.
I go once a month before First Friday and First Saturday to align with those devotions, and more often if necessary. Coming back to this Sacrament 3 years ago has been such a blessing!
David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.” Nathan said to David, “Now the Lord has put away your sin; you shall not die." - 2 Samuel 12 :13 -
@B Evans I agree; please please read the word of God: these are direct words from Jesus; "And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.” Really can't get much clearer than that. My dear B Evans; the Apostles were chosen by Jesus and given a mission with Power and Authority. They can now forgive sins in the New Covenant; not by their own Authority (as if they made it up); but by the direct command of Jesus to do so. No different than the command they were given to preach or baptize.
@B Evans This is where you are adding words and interpreting (changing) them to suit your own personal opinion or theology. Jesus told them directly that they, the Apostles could forgive the sins through the power and authority He gave them. As they replaced themselves (like when they chose Matthais to replace Judas); the newly appointed Apostles were given the exact same Authority. Your interpretation is way off base from the plain text meaning and is clearly at odds with scripture. Sounds nice but is still unscriptural.
@B Evans "...This was assurance to the decibels by Jesus that these people "would be forgiven" it was a statement of assurance not a delegation of the power to forgive sin by men ....' This is completely unscriptural. How in the world could you possibly take something that was so clear in it's meaning and twist it that far to meet your own man-made theology???? Jesus said quite plainly 'those whose sins YOU FORGIVE ..... those whose sins YOU RETAIN....And then the 'tradition' which is simply a fancy way of saying 'the practice' from the early Church onward was confession to a priest as Catholics hold today. I could understand if we were arguing over the doctrine of the Trinity, or infant baptism; which would be much harder to parse the meaning of scripture; but this is plain text and plain meaning. You don't get much clearer than this. It is quite obvious you are trying to salvage an unbiblical theology at the expense of flat out denying scripture. You could have been a bit more honest and simply cut out he parts that rebut your theology as Luther did than do this disfiguring of them. Catholics never deny that it is only God that forgive sins. It is also up to God how He does it; and in this case it is by appointing Apostles; then their successors in the Bishops and Priests to do so. What God has called Holy, we are not to call profane.
@B Evans '...Except now you add what Jesus said "then their successors in the Bishops and Priests to do so." Where is that in the bible?...' Just before Jesus gives them the command and Authority to forgive sins (in His name) He tells them " As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.”. Jesus came in the Father's name with complete Authority to do all the Father allowed Him to do; then the 11 Apostles (not everyone) was given the mission to go forth in the Name of Jesus with the Authority of Jesus (which included healing the sick, raising the dead, and forgiving sins). The Apostle Peter then announced after the death of Judas " ‘His office let another take.’ and '...“Lord, who knowest the hearts of all men, show which one of these two thou hast chosen to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside, to go to his own place...' This they did by choosing Matthais and then laying on of hands with the intention of the Apostle's Office being filled. This continued as the other Apostles died by martyrdom or natural death; or eventually as more Apostles were needed for the growing Church. If you think about it for a second then: Who alone can truly do miracles such as heal the sick, raise the dead, prophesy the future, etc. Jesus said 'what is easier to do, say to this man get up, pick up your mat and walk, or to say to him your sins are forgiven??' BOTH are only possible by God; and done by men ONLY by God through the Authority He gives them?? This is how Catholics see it; and they never attribute the power to the priest; but by the Authority he received to act 'in personae chrsiti' from the Apostolic Succession they have from the Apostles right up to today. Only non-catholics mistrew this as them doing a power grab or say catholics believe men can forgive sins and leave out the scriptural part that it is only by the Authority granted to them by God. You will ONLY find TRUE Apostolic Succession in the Catholic Church and/or Churches it recognizes to have Apostolic Succession (ie Greek Orthodox). Now I'm not saying God can't forgive you your sins if you go to your room and pray for forgiveness; as this is God's gift and God is not bound by the Authority He gave to Catholic Priests. Unless God speaks in an audible voice back to you; the best you can do is assume God might have forgiven you. OR you could go to a priest, ask for God's forgiveness, and by the action of the Holy Spirit acting THROUGH this man as APPOINTED by his APOSTOLIC OFFICE; you can actually hear you have been forgiven and walk away fully assured. This is biblical and this is your choice.
@B Evans To recap you have moved from no man can forgive sin to at least saying those men could but now I have to show they had the authority to pass on that authority and then to show that they indeed did pass on that authority. To cut this whole thing short I can easily do that and through scripture; even though 'bible alone' proof is itself unscriptural and unnecessary. It really appears you have a theology in your heard that is unbiblical and given to you by some other person; not from God. Now you are trying to defend that man-made theology at all costs; to the point of nitpicking to the very last detail. I assure you it will not hold up as the bible clearly shows the Apostles appointed others in their place with the EXACT same authority Jesus gave them. You might point to some bad choices they made; but did Jesus not pick Judas Himself, and did not God appoint Balaam as a prophet in the OT Himself???? Neither of these invalidates the ability to choose and give this authority as each sees fit to do so. It all works eventually toward the Glory of God.
Confession keeps me accountable. It's easy to say, "oops. Sorry, God." It's another to go regularly to the same priest, who knows me and where I am on my spiritual journey. Reconciliation and Penance repairs the damage I've done to my relationship with God. Regular Reconciliation and Penance keeps me from committing any mortal sins and helps me remain aware and feel pain when I sin venially. It is an incredible Sacrament, and if you aren't going, you are really missing all the Grace that God wants to give you.
I haven’t been to confession since I was in grade school and I am now 72. Since I have been home bound since my disability, I am focusing more on my spiritual life with my God and Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior. I have attempted physically going to confession which is difficult since I can’t drive and now live alone. My last attempt, about November, I stood in line for 1 1/2 hours. I said 4 rosaries. I was the next to go into the confessional, the light went off and the priest said to me, “I’m sorry “. He ran his church all alone. So he had to go say Mass. God needs more priests! I’m still trying to get into confession. I may have to have the very busy priest to come to me at my apartment. Hopefully, it will happen soon 🙏❤️🇺🇸
I'll just repeat myself-- I LOVE the passion you guys share on each subject. You really showed the intensity of care for true confessional protocol in order to truly feel free. I so love the work you all continue to do. Thank you again .
Ryan DellaCrosse I never cease praying. 🙏🏻♥️. We need more men like you guys in the fight for our Catholic faith and to help guide other men to be as strong in their convictions. Im counting on God. It’s in His hands, which means I’m gonna have to trust😞 and believe in the divine plan. ♥️ I’m always watching. Forever grateful.
I received my first confession and communion in decades in April. After being away from the Church for so long, I took RCIA again to refresh myself and am so glad that I did. I absorbed more than I did as a new convert before marrying when I was 21. I was so stressed and anxious, but our priest was so welcoming and friendly. I felt wonderful afterwards. I had forgotten what to say in closing, so I said, 'thanks be to God'! Father said, 'amen to that'! When I was walking back to my car, I felt like jumping up and clicking my heels! I plan on going to confession again at Thanksgiving or Christmas this year.
Confession is a beautiful discomfort that brings on a cleansing sorrow that opens a clearer path to Gods love. To speak the worst of my deeds outloud to God through anothers ears helps make accountability tangible, which then pushes me to search 'why does it really matter', which turns into a longing to live with grace, which helps me choose to be more mindful day to day, which helps breaks down my self serving nature and consider the world around me and how my thoughts influence my actions that then, affects others.
My memories of Reconciliation have always been awesome. In fact, I think that I felt the Sacrament meant more to me than receiving the Eucharist. Being hugged by God!! As a Catholic educator in Toronto, Ontario, I taught Sacramental preparation every year, in one form or another. Creating a spirituality of the uniquness on its own rather than something to do before you get to the "real" Sacrament [Eucharist, Confirmation, Matrimony.] Because I have not left my home in over 2 years, I seek a face to face with a Priest discussion. Someone asked my how I could sin, being sick and living alone. Oh, God, and you three men know!! I do not just want "Extreme Unction" just before dying!! {I am a Baltimore Catechism, cradle Catholic} All prayers are welcome, for sure and for certain, but any suggestions???
How absolutely amazing hearing Fr Pagano's experience during a truly committed confession. I'd like to share a similar experience where, after forcing myself to confession after some time of not attending them, on a particular feast day, three days after a major confession, I received the Blessed Sacrament, after the mass I felt a totally new person. I closed my eyes and felt I was inside the Sun (somehow!) A true confession can change your life, it certainly changed mine. St John Nepomucene, pray for us 🙏..
so thankful confession. For the counsel part of it and healing. My last confession was after 6-8 months (its been a crazy year). I had been having a hard time just daily. Once I went, a weight was lifted. love that feeling.
I had been to confession at my parish 4 years ago. Sunday after, I greeted the Priest, thanking him for a wonderful service. His response was making a joke from what I shared in confession with him out in public, no less. I was mortified and stop going to church. I attend service utilizing Heart of the Nation on TH-cam. I did go to confession at a different parish on Holy Saturday...was in panic mode the whole time. I just felt the need to receive our Lord.
What that priest did to you was horrible. They should get a disciplinary measure for breaking the seal. I hope that you're doing well, and may our Lord Jesus Christ protect your heart and keep you strong. Don't stop participating in the sacraments!
I once had a priest tell me not to worry about confessing so much and that the Eucharist is a healing sacrament which will forgive my sins. I knew that was not true, and wonder how many he misrepresented with a statement like that. Thank you for this program!
It is true for venial sins. Not mortal sins though, if you receive in mortal sin you commit sacrilege against Christ in the Most Holy Eucharist, so yeah don't do that.
As long as you didn't leave a sin out on purpose your good. I've been that by several priests. Its when you purposely withheld a sin that you're in mortal sin because you're technically lying. That's a naughty naughty!
Love your podcast and how it's helped me strengthen my relationship with God. Is there an episode out there or you would consider making about being slain by the holy spirit and/or what happens during eucarist adoration?
Going tomorrow actually ( I usually end up going about every 3 weeks) But this time I have some that I never even thought of. So thank you for sharing and the great videos. I've never been afraid of going, there is nothing I can confess that a priest hasn't heard. So for those out there that are afraid there is no need to be. If going to home parish is what holds you up go to a different parish. It's not like they remember or know you, they only care you go and free yourself.
Then why are you here? Do you think that maybe God is trying to send you a message? Open your heart and listen. He gives us messages all the time. We just have to stop and listen. I am so amazed at the messages He sends to us, especially in our hour of greatest need.
Greetings from Georgia. The first Ryan without a hat, said that Able offered to God grains as his offering. I am surprised the good father on your pod cast did not correct him. Able was a shepherd and offered to God an unblemished lamb as his offering. Cain was the farmer who offered to God his vegetables and any other food items to God. God liked Able’s gift as it foreshadowed what the lord Jesus would do at Calvary. I enjoyed your podcast.
Cradle Catholic and totally committed to practicing my faith I hate confession. Our priests terrified us as children. There was no kindness. I had a panic attack in my first confession aged 6 and was slapped by my teacher for making a fuss. A dreadful fear inducing start. Going to confession was for me as bad as going to the dentist. I Love that our Mass offers 3 opportunities to confess openly and to ask our brothers and sisters to pray for us sinners and seek Gods blessing to be worthy to take the Eucharist.
The COVID 19 then lockdown then dint go for a long long time to confession or Hor ....Teng Teng Teng Thank you Ryan delocrosse for your testimony ....it was inspiring ...please fr Richard please pray for me..... I felt stagnent not happy....😔 i DONT sleep well and that’s not good ....pls scteel PLES pray for me thank you Your my best godly friend including fr rich and delocrossie
I’m not Catholic but I’ve been interested in this topic. I’ve wondered for so long as to why are we confessing our sins to a priest when we can have a closer relationship with God, with Jesus, by praying directly to them throughout the day... asking for forgiveness of our sins directly to God, to Jesus? It seemed to me that much focus is directed toward the priest, being the avenue to which sins can be forgiven and it then becomes the need to seek the priest first rather than seeking God and Jesus first. Let me continue on from where I stopped (5:36) to comment and learn! Thank you for bringing up this topic by the way!
Love this episode. I didn't know confession was not 'complete/valid' without a penance :( I will make sure I get one from now on :D Thank you for this educational episode...blessings!!!
When the priest says, "'Say three Our Fathers and ten Hail Mary's", THAT is a "penance". Depending on what you confess, they may give you something to do, like, reestablish your relationship with your mother, or forgive your brother, or sister, or spouse and reestablish your relationship with them, or whatever.
I am quite taken by this show. The Sacrament of Confession is somewhat complicated. Going to confession is a commitment not commit the sin again and again, then run to confession for absolution. It is important to really learn how to make a General Confession. The priests have failed to explained the value of this amazing Sacrament, and when you ask for a General Confession you see the confusion in their eyes, why ? because it takes time. Some priests have a reputation as GREAT CONFESSORS, they are few in between. It took me 4 yrs to find this DOMINICAN PRIEST...He wanted a one hr. Consultation before having the General Confession, then he would decide if you need 1, 2, or 3 hrs. He wants you to be fully prepared with a contrite heart. This priest is truly a magnificent SOUL. He is the Pastor of a Historical Catholic Church, and 4 priests.. Every Friday after 5:30 Mass the Church is opened till 11 pm and Adoration and Benediction. Finding this Church and priests has been God's Gift to my soul. So long had my journey been, but I never gave up. Finally I feel that I am HOME.
I was going once a week he told me my venial sins were forgiven at mass I explained that I knew this and that I needed the graces and blessings of confession
I wonder if the reason we confess to the Priest is because he is human & flawed too, which is probably less intimidating than confessing directly to Jesus. In my experience, every Priest has been excellent during my confessions, really supportive and guiding, as ultimately, they are facilitating my journey, which is so good. The other point that came to mind, in our families, we know if there is something troubling our loved ones. We can build a similar relationship with our Priest via the Sacrament. Love this podcast, thank you 💕
I went to confession a couple of years ago. The priest told me that what I thought were my sins weren't sins and that he wouldn't listen. There was not a line or anyone waiting. I was in tears. He told me to go and say an Our Father that would be good enough. That was the last time I have gone to that church. I have not gone to confession since as I felt so horrible. His disgust at my even being there . . . I hope to go again some day. I no longer go to that Parish. I joined a church in another Diocese.
I am truthfully sorry for your experience at that church. Your feelings are valid and I hope that you will be able to go back to confessing one day. God loves you!
What I find funny about Protestantism is its flagrant illogic. In Protestantism you can preach "in the name of Jesus"; pray "in the name of Jesus"; cast out demons "in the name of Jesus"; and even join a man and a woman in marriage "in the name of Jesus". You can do just about everything in the name of Jesus. But sins can never be forgiven "in the name of Jesus" by those who have been given the mandate by Jesus himself in the gospels? Really? It's because of these kinds of attitude that Protestantism never appealed to me, even when I wasn't as educated and knowledgeable about Catholic faith and theology as I am today. From early on in life, I just don't know how to deal with logical discontinuity. I'm certainly not about to begin today!
Thank you so much for this episode! I haven't gone to confession for 28 yrs & I only went once so I dont even remember how to do it. I want to go but felt very uncomfortable b/c I had no idea what to do. So thank you!
I had a profound experience prior to and after my recent confession. What are you waiting for? All Catholics should gladly ask God for forgiveness now! My last confession was years ago. How can we as Catholics recieve Christ during holy communion while in either venial, or mortal sin? Think about it. Repent!
Loved Mr. Dellacrosse's rant. We sometimes over think the process of confession. I think that also has to do with anxieties we may have when going to confession. A lot of priests I've gone to confession will begin with a prayer as you enter and will immediately fallow with ,"tell me your sin". I guess there's no set formula for confession.
I'm a returning Catholic and when I got ready to do my confession or reconciliation I did several months research on TH-cam I was so unsure on how to proceed, how to confess and what I should confess. Still really lost😬
You tube is an excellent tool- load in General confession. Then get out you paper & pen. Access a good examination on conscience. Small hint commandments 6 & 9 seem to be a good point to dive deeper on. Good luck & I’ll be praying for you it’s so worth the effort & know your have this.
ACTS 16:30-31 30 And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
I will say this; once you get that 1st one out of the way you know the 1 that's taken you forever to get to. It is so much easier to confess your sins on a regular basis. ... Jeez I posted an awful lot 🤪 but I am so grateful that you guys did this😁
I do not see the links for examination of conscience maybe it’s because I’m dyslexic but I honestly cannot obtain a good one I actually wish I can have one that was laminated and I could write the numbers of each time I commit to sense seeing as it is hard for me to write them all down I also tried using an app but to be honest that didn’t seemUsable for me
Protestants say "But the curtain of the Holy of Holies was ripped in two giving us direct access to God so why do I need a priest when it is also said we have a high priest in Jesus in the order of Melchizedek who doesn't have to atone for His own sins since He is the only One Who has no sin to atone for period. Is this when I quote Tom Petty, "You believe what you want to believe..." and leave it at that? I know what to say, the same thing I asked my priest in RCIA, "What does it mean 'What is loosed on earth will be loosed in heaven.'?" I don't know if he answered me or if his answer just didn't register with me. I always had the right answers and questions in RCIA but when I went back to help instruct a year latter I was full of heresies coming out of my mouth and the priest had to be diligent to correct me. I quit going to help RCIA after that because I felt I was misleading everyone but you know I should have kept going because anyone can serve, even if it's to serve as a bad example.
Some priests say that if I forgot a sin that I need to confess the very next confession that I go to. Other # say if I forgot a sin, but it has been forgiven anyway and that I don't need to confess the sin when I remember it, which is it? For someone who suffers in scrupulosity, it would really be beneficial if the priests are on the same page.
@ Regina Pontes Call your local parish. Make an appointment for the local parish priest to come out to your residence to hear your confession. If you feel uncomfortable being alone in your house with a priest, arrange for a friend to be present, in the house, in a separate room during your confession so the seal of the confessional will be upheld, but you have someone close by, that you trust, to whom you can appeal should you feel uncomfortable.
Every time i go to confession i cry. I don't know why. It doesn't matter iif it is a month or a year.. some priest are surprised. Some confort. How can I stop.
I thought you guys were going to post some of the resources in the show notes. I'm entering RCIA and believe very much in the power of confession. But I'd love to have some guidelines for preparing for my first Catholic confession. Thanks.
Step 1: Examine your conscience (you can find an examination online) Step 2: "Bless me Father for I have sinned, it has been x time since my last confession" Step 3: Confess your sins in kind and number Step 4: remember your act of contrition Step 5: Remember to do your penance
God forgives our sins. Great. But does He FORGET them too? Am I going to “re-live” those sins when I’m judged? Like see a video of all my past offenses? Or, once I’m forgiven, not even the devil will know my sins? Or am I forever bound to these sins, even in the afterlife and be reminded of them?
Yes, Jesus said if you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven if you retain the sins of any, they are retained. So what if one priest chooses to forgive a sin but another priest chooses not to (retains) that sin?
we are supposed to confess our sins to one another, but you don't want to confess to just anyone and have them possibly gossiping about it later. So, a priest has been ordained and educated to handle this properly.
I have a brother in Our Lord who told me Confession used to be done in the open before all the parishioners like spouse may confess they were unfaithful in presence of their spouse, is that true that is how it was done or did he just tell me that to get me going to Confession more at ease?
If a priest is under mortal sin and does not confess how does that affect confessions they have heard or them consecrating the Eucharist or officiating any other Sacrament?
Praise the Lord Jesus Christ for revealing the Living Word of God to me. 1 Timothy 2:5 For there is only one God and one mediator between God and Mankind and that is Jesus Christ. No priest needed to absolves us at our sins. He does not have the power nor the authority.
Jeff Calvin’s is doing a lot to explain the timeline of the Bible. If more people would use Ascension Press they can be more educated in the Bible. I’m converting to Catholicism partly because of his ministry.
So I made a commit on a video by Fr Schmitz for someone needing Christ, and told him to do several things, but firstly to go to confession. I then get 'attacked for telling him to go to a priest when all he needs to do is confess to Christ and done. I informed this Robert that when going to confession, you Are Speaking to Christ as the priest is in persona. Was I wrong there? Thanks.
Sorry, I have another question. Is it a sin to spend my time doing other things that may bring me comfort. Example food, TV, etc. because isn't it true that we sometimes turn to these things because there is a pain in our heart that we're trying to soothe. Example the loss of a loved one, so spending time doing these other things is not necessarily because we want to turn away from God, so that's confusing to me.
Imagine doing something evil or wrong, and that your father hears it from someone else. He will still be annoyed with wrath against you. Then imagine that though you committed a serious act or offence that is detestable to your father, but you summoned up courage to humbly confront your father, telling him you are ashamed of yourself for what you did. Believe me,a woman's tender care cannot cease towards the child she bored. Satan is going around to note and report our wrongs and shortcomings to God. The priest represents an envoy of God,to whom we can tell all our wrongs before Satan have that opportunity. Remember Job !
@dharmagirl151
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!
I appreciate your honesty 🙏❤
I truly needed to hear that!
What an amazing story! Welcome back home!
That means so much to us! We are humbled we are helping you!
Hallelujah!! Going to the gun the highest, and peace to Men of goodwill! You have made my day
They don't call it confession anymore. Now its "Sacrament of Reconciliation". Oh well. Its Confession to me. Going today at 4 PM.
That’s great! We’re very happy for you!!!
I returned to the church 13 years ago & after reconciliation I was so free. However this Covid lock down has made me dive deeper. I am so grateful - this Friday I will make a general confession- God is good & merciful. We need to understand that God is always there to forgive- we need to accept.
WOW!!!!!

Our beautiful Lord's Justice is only exceeded by His Mercy.
Jesus is waiting for you.
How amazing! Glory to God!
Matthew Muehlbauer Nice...sounds like a smart and thoughtful Priest!
Confession IS about freedom!
Every single time!
Waiting to go for confession again!
Thank you Ryan, Ryan and Fr. Rich!👍
Lord Jesus I Trust in you.
Help me to love you and Come closer to you, O Holy Spirit enlighten my mind. Help me to know my Sins. Give me Grace to
Acknowledgments of Sins and
Repentance. In Jesus Mighty name I ask. Ameeeeeeeeeen And Ameeeeeeeeeen
The more you are aware of something the mire you’re obligated to live more faithfully.
That is so true and confession keeps us in that mode I think.
Thank you Catholic talk show God bless 🙏❤️
I made my first reconciliation at a late age, 12… and by that age unfortunately my life had been tainted by so many bad things. I did a face-to-face confession and remember balling my eyes out but feeling so relieved and safe. Ever since then, I prefer a F2F confession and I always feel so relieved after. There was a time in my life that I would go a long time before confession and it truly separates me from Him. I am so grateful for this sacrament and I pray that the Holy Spirit continues to lead me and convict me to confess my sins so that I may always be able to receive Him in Holy Communion. 💚🙏🏽
The sacrament of confession is also in the Eastern Orthodox Church, Oriental Orthodox churches, and Assyrian Church of the East.
Melvin George ....thanks for the info, good to know
I was married twice and divorced twice not through the church I didn't think I could go to confession I did my research I have abstained for the past 17 years to get right with God it took me that long to go to confession because I was not properly informed.
Glad you made it back! Praise God!
Are u a catholic?
Welcome back
I go once a month before First Friday and First Saturday to align with those devotions, and more often if necessary. Coming back to this Sacrament 3 years ago has been such a blessing!
David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.” Nathan said to David, “Now the Lord has put away your sin; you shall not die."
- 2 Samuel 12 :13 -
@B Evans I agree; please please read the word of God: these are direct words from Jesus; "And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”
Really can't get much clearer than that.
I agree that it keep you accountable and you think twice sometimes if you're tempted to sin.
Have you considered calling and seeing if you can make an appointment for confession?
This was a great prep for my first confession. Really put me at peace.
I'll just repeat myself-- I LOVE the passion you guys share on each subject. You really showed the intensity of care for true confessional protocol in order to truly feel free. I so love the work you all continue to do. Thank you again .
We are grateful for your support, please pray for us!
Thank you having this discussion.
Hello from San Antonio 👋🏼
God bless you all🙏🏼
Like the fact that you're ending with a prayer. Could you ask Fr. Richard to also say a short blessing at the end as well?
What a beautiful story! So grateful to God you are back in the box!
@@ryandellacrosse6416 Thank you so much!
Good morning man Catholic talk show God bless you always ✝️❤️
Confession is a beautiful discomfort that brings on a cleansing sorrow that opens a clearer path to Gods love.
To speak the worst of my deeds outloud to God through anothers ears helps make accountability tangible, which then pushes me to search 'why does it really matter', which turns into a longing to live with grace, which helps me choose to be more mindful day to day, which helps breaks down my self serving nature and consider the world around me and how my thoughts influence my actions that then, affects others.
Never been in confession forever. I can't remember the last one. Maybe 20 years ago:(
Thanks for this topic guys, God bless us all~
My memories of Reconciliation have always been awesome.
You guys are awesome 👏 keep teaching us our faith God bless you 💟🕊✝️❤️
I always go to confession because I have a lot to say and admit my wrongs and failures in life. It helps.
It is so nice to be honest with yourself and let God restore the part(s) of your life that you struggle with. Our Church is so amazing!!!
I left this church and never looked back. So glad I did
Then why are you here?
I’m a 63 y.o. cradle Catholic. I struggle horribly about participating in Reconciliation.
The COVID 19 then lockdown then dint go for a long long time to confession or Hor ....Teng Teng Teng
Thank you Ryan delocrosse for your testimony ....it was inspiring ...please fr Richard please pray for me.....
I felt stagnent not happy....😔 i DONT sleep well and that’s not good ....pls scteel PLES pray for me thank you
Your my best godly friend including fr rich and delocrossie
I didn't know confession was not 'complete/valid' without a penance :( I will make sure I get one from now on :D
Thank you for this educational episode...blessings!!!
Beautiful guys
Thank you 😊
But Where did the bear go??? 😂
Haircuts looking good Ryan 👍
I am quite taken
by this show.
The Sacrament of
Confession is
somewhat complicated.
Going to confession
is a commitment not
commit the sin again
and again,then run
to confession for
absolution. It is
important to really
learn how to make
a General Confession.
The priests have failed to explained
the value of this
amazing Sacrament,
and when you ask for
a General Confession
you see the confusion
in their eyes, why ?
because it takes time.
Some priests have a
reputation as GREAT
CONFESSORS, they
are few in between.
It took me 4 yrs to
find this DOMINICAN
PRIEST...He wanted
a one hr. Consultation
before having the
General Confession,
then he would decide
if you need 1, 2, or 3 hrs. He wants you to
be fully prepared with
a contrite heart.
This priest is truly a
magnificent SOUL.
He is the Pastor of
a Historical Catholic
Church,and 4 priests..
Every Friday after
5:30 Mass the Church
is opened till 11 pm
and Adoration and
Benediction.
Finding this Church
and priests has been
God's Gift to my soul.
So long had my journey been, but I
never gave up.
Finally I feel that I am
HOME.
I love when Delecross goes off 😊🤗😅❤️
It us truly amazing.only think i keep forgetting another sin.!!!
I was told by a priest in confession that I was attending confession to much
I was going once a week he told me my venial sins were forgiven at mass I explained that I knew this and that I needed the graces and blessings of confession
I understand the feedback from the priest is so important to us, so that feeling of rejection must have felt horrible.
Thank you, Lord, for the beautiful purification of confession!
Amen brother!
Well done.
I think I went to confession during catechism for my communion. I haven't gone since. I'm dying to go back, but boy am I scared.
Please do a talk show on Benediction/Holy Hour
I SPEND A LOT OF TIME WITH YOU GUYS ,I'LLHAVE TO CUT DOWN ON CTS.
im happy for that you inspired me in my catholic fait
I'm a returning Catholic and when I got ready to do my confession or reconciliation I did several months research on TH-cam I was so unsure on how to proceed, how to confess and what I should confess. Still really lost😬
Welcome back! This talk should help you. You will be fine, trust in yourself and foremost in Jesus. I will pray for you. You got this RC!
You tube is an excellent tool- load in General confession. Then get out you paper & pen. Access a good examination on conscience. Small hint commandments 6 & 9 seem to be a good point to dive deeper on. Good luck & I’ll be praying for you it’s so worth the effort & know your have this.
I'm a relatively new Catholic and I havent been in a while because I dont know what I am doing and feel really awkward doing it.
LightOwl go!!!
RC, make an appointment and let the priest help you do a thorough Confession. It is an incredible experience.
You guys rock !
YOU DO!
Wow!!! A long life penance. Had no idea these could be given.
We are grateful we can
Last time I went to confession, the monsignor chewed me out because I hadn't been to confession in 8 years. Made me gunshy about going back.
ACTS 16:30-31 30 And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
I was kicked out of the confession when I was 7. Mispronounced a word. Anxiety now when going to confession after all these years
I will say this; once you get that 1st one out of the way you know the 1 that's taken you forever to get to. It is so much easier to confess your sins on a regular basis. ... Jeez I posted an awful lot 🤪 but I am so grateful that you guys did this😁
I do not see the links for examination of conscience maybe it’s because I’m dyslexic but I honestly cannot obtain a good one I actually wish I can have one that was laminated and I could write the numbers of each time I commit to sense seeing as it is hard for me to write them all down I also tried using an app but to be honest that didn’t seemUsable for me
please contenio your program in evangelizing the people
Protestants say "But the curtain of the Holy of Holies was ripped in two giving us direct access to God so why do I need a priest when it is also said we have a high priest in Jesus in the order of Melchizedek who doesn't have to atone for His own sins since He is the only One Who has no sin to atone for period.
Trained to complete Act of Contrition prior to entering the confessional. Priest was from Belgium.

I am afraid to go to Confession
Some priests say that if I forgot a sin that I need to confess the very next confession that I go to. Other # say if I forgot a sin, but it has been forgiven anyway and that I don't need to confess the sin when I remember it, which is it?
For someone who suffers in scrupulosity, it would really be beneficial if the priests are on the same page.
18:43 legit point lol
I just found out recently that if you are speeding you have to confess that too, is that correct
We are to obey just laws. Consider some consequences of what could happen for going over the speed limit or just generally being unsafe in a car.
If your speeding drunk and or stoned that's a mortal sin!
Thank you thank you thank you!
All I know is it sure does make you want to aviod sin. Who wants to confession tawdry details to another person good thing Jesus is full of Mercy !
Thank you.
Father, how does one go to confession that is homebound?
@ Regina Pontes
Call your local parish.
Thanks.

this should help
Those links can be found here: catholictalkshow.com/why-do-catholics-confess-sins-to-a-priest/
Step 1: Examine your conscience (you can find an examination online)
Step 2: "Bless me Father for I have sinned, it has been x time since my last confession"
Step 3: Confess your sins in kind and number
Step 4: remember your act of contrition
Step 5: Remember to do your penance
Would be nice to say the scripture verse before starting to talk about it.
I'd like to write to read and memorize. Thanks. Enjoy the show.
I have a brother in Our Lord who told me Confession used to be done in the open before all the parishioners like spouse may confess they were unfaithful in presence of their spouse, is that true that is how it was done or did he just tell me that to get me going to Confession more at ease?
thank you.
Could you please share any additional information i would need if I am considering making a general confession? Thank you

Why don't priest's suggest an indulgence to be done during or after confession to avoid temporal punishment? It seems appropriate.
If a priest is under mortal sin and does not confess how does that affect confessions they have heard or them consecrating the Eucharist or officiating any other Sacrament?
Praise the Lord Jesus Christ for revealing the Living Word of God to me.
1 Timothy 2:5
For there is only one God and one mediator between God and Mankind and that is Jesus Christ.
Thanks.
Amen Amen Amen ✝️❤️🙏🕊️
Sorry, I have another question. Is it a sin to spend my time doing other things that may bring me comfort. Example food, TV, etc. because isn't it true that we sometimes turn to these things because there is a pain in our heart that we're trying to soothe. Example the loss of a loved one, so spending time doing these other things is not necessarily because we want to turn away from God, so that's confusing to me.
He he ! Hey everyone have ya noticed fathers HaLO ,,? Lol god bless and love
Where is the prayer card or act of contrition that was supposed to be in the description?
