That’s so lovely that you were able to continue your LOTR tradition this year, even if it was virtually. 😍

About putting 3 and a half hour films in theaters: you have to remember that those movies were being planned right after Titanic set all those records at the box office inspite of being a 3 hour long movie.

Yay for LOTR christmas tradition! We watched them with our kids for the first time last year (I can't believe my 4yr old at the time made it through - I'm not sure whether to be proud of her or be worried, lol). We're now trying to talk them into making it a tradition every year - especially as our area is going into "lockdown" (virtual learning -ah!) starting boxing day for a month...I know, boxing day, don't even ask...
    Merry Christmas!

Lauren- I alway love this vlog or moment within a vlog when you have the LOTR night. It reminds me of my friend group traditions and seeing you adapt it for COVID makes me so happy to know you could still make it happen.

Awe Lauren. I'm so sorry about your lock down situation. I won't be seeing my family at Christmas either. It's been a difficult year. Sending love and Christmas cheer your way! 💗🎄

This tier 4 must be definitely strange, so close to the date. I'm in France at the moment, and we have way looser rules about gatherings (every shops are open, no curfew on Christmas Eve, no geographical restrictions and only a recommendation of no more than 6 people around the table (not counting children). Which means it's up to us to decide and make our own assessements of daily numbers etc. It's a bit insane and it can create some frictions (it was hard to cancel our plans of visiting relatives who are feeling quite isolated already and were hoping to see people for the holidays. Both as in heartbreaking for us, but also hard to have them agreeing without renouncing our family ties altogether ^^!) Kinda wish rules were clearer/stricter, weirdly...
I feel this year, the idea of the ghosts of christmasses past, present and yet to come is more poignant than ever, for a lot of us too and at different degrees. It's a lot to handle x So keep adding marshmallows to your coffee, ordering way too much take out food, baking tighter, smaller cinnamon rolls, and may I suggest eating dessert before mains on Christmas (and then another round of dessert to close the deal), because to hell with traditions now! Lots of virtual hugs to you guys xx

This is just the loveliest comment, thank you 😭 that sounds just as difficult in France, and I totally agree - stricter rules from the outset make everything so much clearer and easier to follow. The pressure on individuals to assess the risk can be so overwhelming! Sending much love to you and yours 😘 xxx

I recently read an article on GQ (available online) that argues the LOTR films are the perfect Christmas films. If you haven't read it yet, would definitely recommend it!
    P. S. Hi from Tier 4 London, sending all the love and strength... What a flippin hard, sad, time, but we'll all come out of it xx

I've not seen the LOTR movies but maybe it's finally time to rectify that. Good luck with the new Covid restrictions. I usually just spend a couple hours with my sister and niece on Christmas Day but I'll probably just stay long enough to see my niece tear into her presents before going back home.

I watched Fellowship 19 times in the cinema so the theatrical version of that is burned into my brain. 😅 My friends and I used to have Star Wars sleepovers and watch them all night. We were a always a little delirious by Return of the Jedi and someone would inevitably be asleep before the end. 😅

Haha, we often have tactical naps during dull parts, so we can be awake for the end of ROTK! 😅

@@LaurenWade A very sensible strategy! I remember being woken by parents after about 2 hours sleep because we'd have trashed the kitchen during the night with our snacking and would have to clean it up so the parents could eat breakfast. Ah, youth. 😅
